  1. Helmet, helmet, helmet, always wear a helmet when riding your motorbike whether to quickly nip down to the 7/11 or whether to take a long ride on the highway. The amount of people killed in Thailand becauwe they didn't wear their helmet is staggering.

So if i wear a helmet, i won't get run over by a drunken car driver! People don't die because of not wearing helmets, they die from getting run over and coming off the bike due to the state of the roads or bad riding! angry.png

Sorry, just gotta say this....chriss....i'm gonna hit u in the head with a ball pein hammer! Would you prefer some protection, i.e a crash helmet, or no protection at all? If you chose 2nd option, then Darwin was soooo right!

  2. Reads just like another day in New York, Chicago or Miami. Thailand is becoming more and more Americanised every day.

I don't think Americans, or any westerners for that matter, take opportunity to throw ice blocked cold water, talc filled water, or any other filled water into the face of oncoming traffic, anywhere near a main road or highway that has fast approaching traffic, do they?

Can't say it's like another day in a western city. Can say the death rates may be similar for a similar day - but there isn't a similar day in the west. Even in New Year we don't thow water at somebody. You'd be arrested and jailed on the spot. I'm not knocking Thai custom of Songkran either, at all, but over the last 10 years it has become more vindictive, less fruitful, and further from the real meaning and intent of the celebration.

Death rates or killed rates? Sorry couldn't help it....I'm an idiot!tongue.png

    Murder rates, idiot! giggle.gif

Aah, that old chestnut! Must brush up on 'causes of not being in the realm of the living any more' rolleyes.gif

  4. Business as usual....

In Chumphon, 58-year-old Piak Thongsakul was found dead, with Bt1,300 apparently stolen. Quoting witnesses, police said Piak was on his way to a funeral when he was drenched with water by a man, estimated to be around 25 years of age, who had been throwing water at passers-by.

Ironic that a man with a name litterally translated , means 'wet', died during a water festival!

    R.I.P.

Despite his name's meaning, unfortunately he didn't die. He was killed by a drunken thug, out of its brains, who decided to chase him and knock him senseless because he didn't want to get wet on his way to a funeral. That's LOS harsher side of Songkran which the revellers kindly write off as an accepted part of the revelling..... indeed. angry.png

'he didn't die' What amazing luck! Probably having lunch with his family right now! Go home Mel... if you are able to.Thailand is not for you.

    You idiot!

He didn't die. He was killed. There's a huge difference. Can't you understand the difference? I think you either need to learn to comprehend English or go home yourself back to school to learn comprehension. Please tell me you're not a back-packing teacher, for Christ's sake!! ohmy.png

    mel.

Edit: Oh! go on!..... he was killed by death, in your book.

Thank you for the compliment! Coming from you it surely is a compliment! Nah man. Been here 10 years now. Just like to hook a fish on TV now and then! You're right ....he didn't die. He was killed and then died, or didn't! Murdered, slaughtered uneccasarily, victim of someone you assume is ......oh whatever..... you know more than I. But FYI.... if you are killed....you die. Idiot!wink.png

  5. "Sawadee bi mai" all in the name of fun, gets better ever year!!

yes indeed, a 15 year old girl lying in a pool of her own blood with a limb hanging off just after crashing into a pick up to avoid some drunks throwing water on a main road...my thoughts were just like yours when I saw it yesterday.."all in the name of fun, gets better every year!!"... and those guys parking on a three lane dual carriageway throwing water across two lanes to the motorbike on the overtaking lane... "all in the name of fun, gets better every year!!"

Been here 10 years . Try and change it! Cuts down the population. Like Late 70's Quatermass.

  8. When you're sleeping with two sisters and everyone has breakfast together.

    Posted with Thaivisa App http://apps.thaivisa.com

<deleted>? My 'depth checker' would be hanging from a helium balloon should wifey find out something like that! (Her sister's bloody hot too! Aah well, made me bed. Lol!)

    Off topic slightly

My wife once suggested I marry her sister as well, so we could all live together.

They even got their fathers permission. (I've avoided it but the offer is still on the table)

    Actually not off topic!

When your wife suggests you marry her sister, all the family think it is a good idea, and you consider doing it.

I have to say. when my wife suggests that, I'll be skating around the rink with El Diablo!rolleyes.gif

  9. When the traffic light goes red 5 cars in front of you, but you think you can still make it through safely.

When you stop at a red traffic light, the car behind hits you, and you agree it is your fault for not running the red light.

When the traffic light goes red you just sit there and don't give a monkeys about 200 motorbikes turning right, on opposite side of road to you, making it impossible to progress forward!

  10. Real shame.. I'm a heavy metal music person in preference, but Bee gees always around. New York mining disaster one of my faves.

    Good luck RG.

May I ask who edited my original post please? PM me or put on this thread. Also realize that I hope Robin pulls through and has a few more years with his family.

  11. I dated a ton of Thai girls and never found one of them to malicious, gold digging crazy, stupid, lazy. citizenship hunting etc (things I have heard said about Thai women).

What I did find in the Thai woman I dated? Easy going, slow to anger, not stressful, clean, intelligent, fun, funny, sweet, hard working, considerate, polite, affectionate, faithful etc. I found them, like most woman around the world to have feelings, looking for a man that was faithful and able to care for them and a family. Thai girls laugh, cry, think about the future, have worries, have dreams - just like all women.

I found some special traits in my wife - she is a best friend, lover, a wife, a girl friend and not to abuse an old cliche, but a lady on the street, a chef in the kitchen and........! She is also a super mom, housekeeper, and businesswoman. She is extremely accommodating and will to meet me way over the halfway mark when it comes to western food, culture thinking etc

Eric, let me advise you to date around a bit. If you see a hint of headache and trouble in the early stages of the relationship - run. If you see traits you could never accept - run. These things get worse and will irritate you more in a long tern relationship or marriage. When you find the one that clicks with you, you will know it without any doubts or fears.

I would stay away from relationships with girls that are birthed on money for services, unless she is your nurse in the hospital you are at when you fall off a motorbike! Stay clear of the bar girls or the ones that ask for money.

  12. I have no idea what these people are on about:

Toilet paper on the dining table/floor no longer seems odd.

And on the fridge, next to the bed, on the bookshelf and my desk, in fact everywhere except the toilet, because of course there it would just get drenched with water. Why is that odd?

You refer to all caucasian people as farang.

What else would you call them? Do you use the word "Caucasian" in your normal conversation? Or "white people"?

What about "kreng jai" and "mia noi"? Some meanings just work better in Thai!

Leave restaurants with a toothpick in your mouth.

Actually I already did this long before I went overseas, what's wrong with that?

Nothing at all. It just shows that you are not acculturated.

  13. Dude! Check out the members on TV! Awesome eh! Handbags at dawn!

I been married 10 years and I believe it's totally down to luck who you fall in love with. My family (Thai) amazing. My wife....to put up with me for 10 years deserves a medal! But as she says..."I only marry one time in my life".

Language barriers can be a problem, also culture adjustment, but hey, roll with it mate and I wish you nothing but the best and all the luck in the world. (Even if it means I won't win the lottery this month!)jap.gif
