  1. Because they don't mind marrying white old ugly blokes after knowing them for a night? (its a question not statement!)
  2. I am against the with-holding tax but the capital gains tax on an individual's profit seems more acceptable. I would also think a minimum allowance would be beneficial as well, i.e. the first 60,000 baht you make is tax free. Let them deal with it in whatever way stock trading profit is dealt with. Wait till the masses figure out what DeFi offers, the banks will be in serious trouble then if they don't keep price with staking on reputable DeFi.
  3. I see it playing out this way - anyone without Thai TIN will not be allowed an account on a Thai exchange. It will be messy just like immigration and banking for expats, but the fact that we are expats makes a whole world of crypto products easier for us than the average working Thai.
  4. Should there not be just 1 standard ? i.e. meets acceptable safety guidelines for ALL (tourists and locals and expats and migrant workers alike).
  5. To end this (hopefully) in terms of the UK. Chomper is correct ...... it's a long read but it categorically puts Pond life in the wrong with his assumption, although the idea did have a lot of social media "support" which often misleads us all. Indeed I thought Pond Life was correct until I read this ........ https://www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/news-item/measuring-mortality-during-covid-19-a-q-a
  6. Mine took about 3 working days (I dont think they work on weekends otherwise would have been 5) then I received another email and the system updated.
  7. As a pensioner myself I was pondering this, there's still some safety as: a) Banks don't require a tax ID number to open an account b) If its a bank account one was worried about, simply move money out of them before the reporting date and then repopulate later (I have done this is another country already). c) Retirees don't legally require a TID in Thailand (I have been turned down for one by the tax office twice) d) State pensions would fall under double taxation treaties e) Private pensions, the 12 month rule for Thailand still exists so money can be kept offshore for 12 months (note: 12 month rule is for the real benefit of rich Thais so can't see it going away) f) If (when?) Thailand starts to consider new taxation of overseas retirees we will get quite a bit of notice I think. Time enough to figure something out (escape) anyway.
  8. Having had private medical care in India and Thailand, India is much more professional, cheaper and the doctors actually converse with you like an adult with concerns about your health. Thailand beats India on everything else though except Doctors. My major challenges are a) what does the future hold, things change on a whim here (everything) b) dealing with the heat and humidity most of the year (March to September I usually go back to europe a couple of times) c) reading the news, I detest Thai politics, HiSO system and media.
  9. I am not so sure its illegal Clive as Senior Imm officials have the right to grant exceptions on a case by case basis as I understand it.
  10. Crime of the century. Must be a low news day. Surprised NaNaew did not find a way to lump in some farangs being caught by immigration into the piece.
  11. A withholding tax is just too complicated it will turn all potential users off. Just say crypto profits are to be assessed as capital gains. Taxation is inevitable, when national stable coins are issued and become widely adopted they (tax office) will be able to see and track every satang/penny we spend/receive as we will all also have to have a digital ID as well. No hiding from the tax man in the future. Rumor is that China will test release their stable coin (digital money) by mid year.
  12. So a) Omicron is a major concern b) enough to impose restrictions c) pubs etc are a major vector of omicron d) most cases are from tourists/arrivees. And their solution is to impose restrictions everywhere except those areas with the highest chance of it spreading, highest tourist/arrivee stats, highest concentration of pubs etc and allow all closed booze venues to sell food and reopen as a restaurant so they can keep selling booze? Now I am happy I live in a province which is "open" but these actions show just how <deleted> the administration is.
  13. So it's back to sitting in a dark corner with a paper cup?
  14. You would not need a VPN, you would just need to use an international exchange instead of a Thai one and then either 1) be non Thai tax registered or 2) don't disclose. The tax office are not a detective agency this will only apply to Thai exchange users (I have never used a Thai exchange so don't really know what they disclose or you disclose to them).
  15. Don't sign just yet :+) I think it still has a bit to drop yet more. Also go back to late October it was close to breaking 70K so its fallen even more if you take that number.
  16. I do agree with you Robblok fully (except last sentence :+). It's not that they are lazy (actually I am wrong as they are lazy as a nation except those in the fields) that they get away with non-compliance, its because the police see it as a way to make graft and therefore unofficially sanction it for private agreements.
  17. I have better things to do than to troll you. I actually have a life.
  18. Theres a lot on the forum who don't live here full time as well as most people are using non-Thai none regulated exchanges.
  19. I have searched but can't find anything. How or where do I apply for a booster in Bangkok please? I have had 2 aztra at medpark and last one was over 3 months ago. Do I ask medpark? Thank you!!!
  20. Its anyones guess but I don't think they would go down that route again. It was farcical last time so I think any restriction would just be a recommendation this time.
  21. Me too and it confused the hell out of me. I did not realise until I got home what they put in my passport (a new 90 day report date 3 months from the date of the extension). As I was worried and did not really understand why I then, a couple of weeks later, put in an online request and that got approved as well. So I had two dates. Its now 3 month later and I just put in an online request one the new system and got it rejected (no reason) this morning. Will send my passport to MTT on Monday to see if I can get a manual one.
  22. It looks like theres going to be a withholding tax applied to crypto for Thai taxpayers and 15% capital gains, in the not too distant future. 15% is not bad I assume it will be only for the honest and those with Thai exchange accounts. The withholding tax could be an issue though if its done at exchange level. That would be very complicated to do though. If its per sell trade it could be dark. Anyone know anymore?
