  1. Can access all apple.com and also the US Itunes store no problems on TOT goldcyber BKK.

could be TOT's crap DNS servers try using OpenDns that is what I have my router set to use.

Thanks dekka, I recently updated to OS 10.4.11 and current iTunes. I was using Open DNS before and will check to see if the update somehow disabled/affected Open DNS...if I can remember how to do the DNS thing... :o

p.s. Checked it out and Open DNS is working fine...

I contacted Apple yesterday and they were NO help...Here's part of the canned reply:

"I have verified that the iTunes Store is functioning and accepting connections, which indicates that the issue is related to your internet connection, local network, or your local computer itself. "

Could they be any more vague??

I'm lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Cheers.

  2. IPSTAR/TOT has a problem everyday, but really bad the last 2-3 weeks. Alot of sites I can't even download. Sad

I'm calling tomorrow & tell them to fix or will cancel. Worst ISP i've had in Thailand. And what's even sadder is THEY DON'T CARE IF CANCEL OR NOT. :o

Very true...some of the worst customer service I've ever dealt with.

But then again, T.i.T...I've come to expect crap service from dam_n near everywhere.

  3. On Cybergold ... no problem to access apple.com ... Can't get to the store (understandable, because Thailand is where Itunes operates)

Thanks sniff. But, I'm a bit unclear on what you meant by "can't get to the store, because Thailand is where iTunes operates."

As I said, I've never had any problems with the iTunes Store in the past...just the last few days and it's really p!ssing me off.

    Thanks again.

p.s. Forgot to mention, that access to Apple sites seems OK now, just s-l-o-w.... But still can't get the iTunes Store. :D:o

  4. Count me in as one of those fanboys. We're fanboys because the products are so - well - damned superior and stylish.

No doubt! Add me to the list of fanboys as well.

The whole Mac vs. PC debate is silly and is basically a computer version of penis envy... When you've got a giant, foot-long dic... um, I mean "Mac,"...size really doesn't matter! :o

Anyway, to each his own...use whatever works for YOU.

  5. Hmmm...so let's see... "nine judges appointed by the military-backed government" are to determine whether the junta generals and all of their buddies can continue lining their pockets with huge sums of baht, supress ANY opposition and remain in control for years to come, OR allow democracy??!! :D

Wow, this should be a real nail-biter, eh? :o

You'd have to be daft, completely ignorant or just got off the plane yesterday to think that their predecided ruling will be anything other than the obvious...

  6. To be more specific, I've been enjoying photography as a hobby and was trying to have some enlargements done to decorate the apartment. Even in just the 8 x 12 size, trying local labs in the

Pattaya area I get a wide range of results. Sometimes, thick Kodak professional paper with a gloss finish sometimes razor-thin Fuji crystal archive matte. Often there is strange tinting or lighting changes. I know it's best to try and establish a relationship with one shop but I've not yet found that one shop.

What kind of results are you getting with IQ labs? I keep telling myself to go visit some galleries or exhibits to see what available is out there because as an amateur I really don't know what is standard in the industry. Of the 50-odd shops in the local area they seem to only primarily deal with quick turn-around snapshots. Many of the shops are only satellite outfits so it's not possible to even talk with the technician who I know has a great deal of control over the process. What do professionals do? :o

I imagine there must be a professional lab somewhere in Pattaya, but you're right, you need to at least find a shop that does the printing on the premises and talk to the folks there. Find out what kind of paper they offer and have them show you examples. Have one or two 8x12's printed and if you're not happy with the color, see if they'll reprint it. Of course, being Thai, they won't EVER admit fault...they'll blame you, your camera, your computer, etc. But if you ask nicely, you never know...

For any folks in Korat, there's an exceptional pro lab called Raja Color Lab, near the Night Bazaar that I've been dealing with for years...outstanding print quality, good prices and quick turnaround.

  7. "A major complaint about Thaksin was his muzzling of the media and willingness to limit free speech. The military-backed government promised a quick return to democracy, but it's now attacking freedom of expression and political pluralism in ways that Thaksin never dared," Brad Adams, Asia director at HRW, said in a statement.

    worth repeating .................. :o

The hypocrisy of this junta is absolutely mind-boggling...

  8. Trying to access my google blogspot but............

    blocked now as well???

    Gerd

    I guess so... :o

I haven't been able to access a harmless popular photography site hosted on blogspot for a couple of days.

This country gets more ridiculous by the day...

  9. Everyone is picking on the Pantip element, but I liked the second part:-

    .

Really. No prostitution, street stalls, Lui Vutton bags... :o

I was going to say the exact same thing. How ANYONE, let alone a government official, can openly declare there's "No illegal activity in Patpong," is a slap in face to anyone with even the slightest trace of common sense. (Mind you, common sense in this country is as difficult to find as a good steak)

Seriously though, coming out and saying this in public, strips this guy of ANY remaining credibility he may have had.

    It's outright embarrassing.

  10. Thats Bangkok .................get over it

Well, that's one way to think about it. The other way is to actually try and do something about it.

    IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After you're done fixing Thailand's fire codes, perhaps you can then proceed to convince all the farangs that their bargirls aren't "different." :o

    Good luck.

  11. Have you forwared the Limewire port in your router ?

Here's info how to do it in the Speedtouch v536:

    http://www.portforward.com/english/routers...36/Limewire.htm

Sorry for the late reply, been out of town. But thanks for the help guys.

I looked at the port forwarding link, and it seems quite complicated for someone with my limited computer skills. I was wondering if the port forwarding and static IP address thing will affect other programs, such as Safari and normal, everyday browsing the internet, etc.?

    Thanks again!!

  12. Does anyone know why Limewire/Frostwire absolutely crawls when connected here in Thailand? For example, I try to download a 5mb tune and it says it's downloading from 8 hosts, yet at only 1-2 KB/s max.

I'm using a Mac running OS 10.4.8, with a Speedtouch Modem/Router provided by TOT. The programs say it detects a firewall, but how do you get around that?

Are there any tips to speed this up? 2hrs+ for one tune is a bit ridiculous....but then again....T.I.T

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  13. I am a long time Nikon user, but this camera looks quite impressive. It was rumored that Nikon would be releasing a D3 today, but so far...nothing. If Nikon's next pro body doesn't finally address the high noise, I'll be looking long and hard at the 1DIII and switching to Canon.

  14. Well, just got off the phone with World Camera, and even though I can speak Thai a bit, they had no clue either. Phone got passed around to four people and the (not so) suprising end result was...drum roll please.......

    ...."Mai Mee Ka." :D

    Oh well, that's o.k.

"Honey, it looks like I'm going to HAVE to go to Bangkok for a couple days. Do you want to go? No? Good. :o:D Um...I mean, are you sure?"

  15. World Camera seems to have it.

    http://www.worldcamera.co.th/detail_lens.asp?pro_id=99

There's also a shop in sub-soi in Ekkamai (east side) opposite international school I forgot the name that carries wide range of Sigma lenses in stock. You probably can find an ad of the shop in Thai photography magazine.

Thanks much Nordlys! I will give them a call.

Have you (or others) had good/bad experiences buying from World Camera? Are they a reputable dealer? How about warranties, etc?

  16. Specifically the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. I've tried to email the Thai distributor listed on the Sigma web site, but never got any replies. I live in Korat, but if I have to go to BKK, that's o.k. Could always use an excuse to get of here anyway... :o

I've seen some consumer Sigma lenses, but no pro glass. When I ask about the 30mm at the shops up here, they have no clue what I'm talking about. Mai loo...Mai dai, etc.
