  1. l have been travelling via the new airport on many occasions, either business trip or vocation and l encounter so many problems with the airport services.

The worst one was on 30 Dec. The flight l took was AY0092 from Hong Kong. The plane cannot stop at the gate because the bridge wa not working properly. After the problem was fixed after more than 10 mins, we were allow to leave the place. However, when l try to find which belt to collect my luggage on the big notice board before goint to passport control, l could not find my flight. When l was the staff there, l was told not to trust the big notice board, better to check it after the passport control. After l clear the passport control control, l still cannot find my flight on the screen display!!!! And to me horror, all luggages were unloaded to a belt without any sign at all!!!!!!

l would like to know what happen to system on 30 Dec night. Why flight AY0092 was not display on the sign board? Why the airport staff are not helpful at all? How can a airport than operate for less than 6 mths start having equipment failure? :o

I too landed there at 1am on a China Air Lines flight from Taipei and our luggaage was put on a carousel which didnt have any signage to direct you to. So that was a little wierd. Using my instincts I located the carousel without too much trouble - it was located further east of passport control in a different sectioned part of the building. It was not cool to have to look for the carousel and there was no signage indicating the exsistance of it...

    Thanks,,

    Randy

    Hi Randy,

Glad to know it is not a isolated incident. l can understand your feel...arriving late night, very tired yet have to search for your luggage without any information.....Something is really wrong.....Next experience such incident in other airport before....

  2. Is there anyone who can confirm if the new increased airport tax already is in use.

"Someone told me that if I bought the ticket in January you will have to pay the new airport tax even if you depart in January" :o

I thought the new airport tax first come in function from 1. February.

    :D Thanks

    Yes, starting from 1 Feb.

Departure taxes charged by the Airports Authority of Thailand will be increased effective from February 1st, 2007.

    1. Flights within Thailand from THB 50 to 100 per sector

    2. Departing International Flights from THB 500 to THB 700

These new taxes will be included in all paid and Award tickets for travel commencing February 1, 2007 onwards.

Really shit.....If the airport is really up to international standard, l have nothing to complain.......But with such sub-standard airport......maybe they need more pocket money...

  3. While not excusing the present and/or former governments from blame, this sort of thing happens regardless of who's in charge so unfortunately shoddy building practices are more a part of the culture of mai pen rai and corruption than anything.

nothing to do with building on a swamp then ??

No. Most of Changi Airport is built on reclaim land. Likewise for Hong Kong Airport. Is more related to corruption and mai pen rai attitude. With such culture, the dream of being a aviation hub will always be a dream.....

  4. I left at the old airport and returned at the new.I had a good time returning at the new.Stop all your complaining nobody with common sense will listen to you anyway.Get a life and enjoy the new airport.Anybody that gets taken for a ride by the bandit taxis's deserves the ride,I gave an obscene jesture to anybody that tried to rip me off.A fool and his money are soon parted,if your a fool you deserve what you get.Been there done that!!!! And if you try to take in more than you are allowed I hope they throw the book at you!! :o:D:D:D

All complaints will stop when the airport get their acts right and function like a airport, not a mega shopping complex.....Cannot get a airport to function properly, stop having big plans for shopping......runway, taxiway crack...wonder what's next? Terminal collapse?

  5. Has anyone had experience of checking in with TG (economy and without frequent flyer cards) recently? I understand it was chaotic and remained so for several months, but I'd appreciate knowing whether that's improved. Thanks.

It depends upon the time you check-in. If it's a peak period time, it's still chaotic and you can expect long lines. If it's a slack period, it's fairly straightforward and easy.

This is the different a well manage airport with proper crowd control and a badly manage airport with little or no crowd control.

There was once when l was flying back from Singapore via Singapore Airline. Due to the extremely long queue at Singapore Airline check-in counter, the airport staff together with SIA staff open up extra counter at Silkair check in counter to assist the check-in process.....This is what crowd management is all about....

  6. I took my first flight out of Suvanabhumi on Jan 2nd, and after pushing back from the gate, I was mortified to see DOZENS (if not hundreds) of birds flitting around without a care in the world.

There were lots of white birds which looked like egrets. At one culvert alone I counted 14 of them. Then as we got closer to the runway, there were small flocks of black birds flying around.

Folks, birds are deadly to turbine jet engines. A friend of mine was on that UA flight in 2004 that aborted takeoff because of an engine flameout due to bird ingestion. A complete passenger evacuation ensued with injuries.

Before the airport opened I had read reports that there were efforts underway to remove the bird population. Those efforts seem to have been quite a failure.

It's only a matter of time before an aircraft has a serious problem due to a bird strike/ingestion. Yes, airplanes are designed with redundancy so that an engine shutdown, even on takeoff, should be no problem. But with the number of birds I saw, and with swarms of them roving the area, it's not out of reason to fear a double (or more) engine shutdown. Count the number of engines on a 737, 777, 767, A320, A330, MD80, etc...

humm.....they are not taking the plane, why they care...better to pocket the $$$$$

    ...corruption

l have no comment on this....but as far as l know, my e-mails to the e-mail address provided by AOT since last year is like going into a blackhole.....Talking about having the tallest control tower, fighting with KL or Singapore to be the aviation hub. With such management skill, this dream will forever be a dream. Sorry to say this....

  8. you were not in danger or lost at any time and you found your luggage easy - waiting 10 minutes on the plane should not happen but it can happen in any airport (the old as much as the new one)

Well, there are almost 20 belts for luggage collection after clearing the customer. With no information on which belt is your flight, try walking up and down, seach for your luggage. U think is a easy task and it is after midnight. What is the purpose of the arrival information for?

Yes, waiting in a plane for 10 minutes is normal. But is not normal when no check was done on the bridge before the plane is asked to park there. Some is not right.
