  1. The tourist police should have dealt with it right away and filed details of the complaint.

CCTV is long overdue in Pattaya!

The Thais are experts at lying and avoiding responsibility for anything, (see what happens when a bus driver hits your staionary car) andthe Police are corrupt as sin.

Webcams are now dirt cheap and can, and should, be used as evidence as well as a powerful deterant.

That said though, the golden rule in Thailand hasn't changed for centuries.

#1. Dont mess with the locals :o

  2. You can fly to Samui for 2,000 one way on the first & last flights. Not too bad! You also get one free flight for every ten if you join the flyer bonus club.

Also the Bangkok Air lounges, with free coffee, drinks, snacks, internet, comfy seats etc, offer a far more superior service than any other airline in it's league.

The Bangkok Air lounges at SVBUM are far better than the Cathay Pacific business class lounge and quite a few others. You can change your ticket even if you checked in late and missed your flight.

Try doing that on any UK airline and see what happens.

The staff are always nice too considering some of the falang scum who live on Samui they have to deal with. Compare their staff to the sour faced, old hags you get in Europe.

If Anyone knows of a better local airline, then pelase let me know.

  3. Bad things usually happen when you get drunk then insult, and assualt, the locals in any country. Imagine a Thai guy pushed a bloke on his arse in a east London, Glasgow or Manchester pub? He might not get shot but he would probably get beaten sensless or perhaps stabbed. In some parts of Thailand they prefer to use a gun.

Call me what you like, but if the story is true that the Canadian got drunk and started pushing people around, then serves him right. Considering his girlfriend got pregnant to a Thai bloke, one can only imagine what type of tourist we're talking about here.

Two years ago I witnessed a falang (English thug) beating up a random Thai girl outside the Q bar in Bangkok, for absolutely no reason. Everyone including the staff just stood back and watched. I intervened and got punched to the floor then the guy fled. I managed to get the Taxi drivers to locate him over the radio and hand him over to the Police. Hopefully he's still in Jail!

So the point is, My sympathy for falangs who cause trouble in Thailand?.....ZERO!

  4. [The woman then tried to find the car's key but couldn't find it so she ran away.]

Says who? Was the reporter watching the whole saga? is that what she said? Isn't it amazing how much importance is placed on what people say in this country? Despite the fact that the culture demands that people must lie to save face at all costs!

Lets hope justice is served and the guilty gets what they deserve.

    What a shame!

PS. Old falangs beware, she doesn't love you for your gumsy smile, wrinkly features but your "good heart" (who said money?)will go a long way. However, once your good heart (erm..lets just call it money and be done with it) balconies can become very dangerous. Just remember the 11th commandment. "Thou shall not get involved with bar girls" and don’t forget the 12th commandment "I told you before......Thou shall not get involved with bar girls" and then after you get shafted by a bar girl see the 13th commandment " what part of the sentence...."Thou shall not get involved with bar girls"...did you not understand?

  5. My colleague just emailed claiming that her Air Asia flight from KL to Jakarta "almost crashed" before landing safely in Jakarta. She says the flight was delayed for 7 hours prior to take off.

    Flight No: QZ7605 - 2115 Sun 29 Apr 2007

Does anyone have any confirmation of this? Air Asia are saying nothing!

    :o

See her email below. Would be good to hear from any one else on the flight.

    ----

    Hi Jimmy,

I'm having some issues here in Jakarta. Keep in mind when I say this that I'm not one to startle easily, having survived Maoist riots in Nepal, an earthquake in India, a Tsunami, etc. But I'll be damned if I'm going to let a budget airline take me down. After a delay of more than 7 hours, the plane almost crashed from KL to Jakarta. I'm not going to go into details as I've been reliving them enough as it is, but there is no way in hel_l I'm getting on another Air Asia flight. I don't care if you have to put me on a train, I absolutely refuse to come back on Air Asia. Near-death experience aside, Jakarta's not bad....... J

  6. I just got this from the Thai Consulate in Hull. This applies only to those applying to teach in Thailand.

I'm not quite sure what they mean by an "Education Certificate" I thought it had to be a BA Degree or

higher! Anyway you can still get a NIB visa on just a sponsor letter from a company so long as you don't

mention that you are going to Thailand to teach.

    ---

New rules have come into effect for persons wishing to enter Thailand for the purpose of teaching in Thailand.

In addition to the usual documentation required for all Category “B” visas it is now necessary to also provide your

Education Certificate, a Criminal Record Clearance Certificate (issued by the UK police or equivalent in Scotland)

and an official appointment letter from the education establishment where you will be working in Thailand.

You can apply to the Royal Thai Consulate in Hull for the Non-Immigrant Category “B” Multiple Entry Visa. This

visa has a validity of 12 months from date of issue and allows entry into Thailand as many times as required, each

entry allows a stay of 90 days maximum.

Please understand it is not possible to work in Thailand until your Work Permit is issued. With a work permit you are

entitled to remain in Thailand continuously for the validity of the Work Permit The education establishment should be

able to assist you in applying for your work permit. Please ensure you take the following documents with you to

    Thailand:-

    a) Valid passport with Non-Immigrant Category “B” Multiple Entry Visa

    :o Valid Education Certificate

    c) Valid Criminal Clearance Certificate

    d) Official Letter of Appointment from education establishment

    e) Any other documents which the education establishment may require

  7. This is the problem. The Thai "English teachers" are hopelessly under-qualified and have little or no English. Bringing in unqualified native speakers is seen as a big improvement. The truth is that most private language schools in Thailand never cared less how qualified the teachers is, as long as they put a white face in front of the class, then they get paid! :o

There seems to be a major clampdown right now and it is having a big effect. I run a Gap Year program in Thailand and the local schools I deal with are now insisting that all teachers have a checkable BA degree, TEFL certificate and a criminal record check. Before they were happy with just a TEFL although 98% of our group already had all required qualifications. We can no longer accept the odd applicant who had excellent credentials but no degree.

Personally i don't think a degree make you a better teacher but it can help to weed out some of the so-called undesirables.

Another major problem is that most of the TEFL Schools in Thailand are a joke. Have a look at their websites and see how many grammar and spelling mistakes you can spot. One is Thailand's longest serving academy yet their website looks like it's been written by one of those Thai English teachers. The other "Worlds largest TESOL provider" isn't much better. Both claim to have recently been "approved" by the Thai Ministry of Education...... this sums it up!

Let's hope that standards are maintained after the dust settles, I would bank on it though. :D
