The simple answer is: they're instructed and paid to cause as much mayhem as possible. Doing a rather good job of it, if you ask me.

I do agree that there are some protesters who are trying to incite violence. But we know there are 3500-5000 at their encampment, at least half of which are peaceful protesters I will guess another 1,000 thugs causing mayhem. I guess many of those are being paid to do it.

Now the Thai armed forces employees over 300,000 all of whom are being paid and most of whom are professionally trained. So to me the question is why this is not under control.

Simple enough to answer... they don't want to kill a lot of people. Now u may point at the current figure and say, that's a lot... truth it could be hundreds... it may well be that thanks to the Red leadership. The Govt isn't going to back down on this.

That's an awful lot of posting. in 6 years I haven't got that many. Personally, I think that anyone that spends a lot of their time posting on internet forums(i.e 5 a day or more) needs some kind of counseling. Not counting Admin. and Mods.

I wonder how long a lot of you posters have been in Thailand and know the value(or lack of) of life. How many really know the way that Thai politics works. I find it depressing to read all these opinions by people who haven't really a clue about any of it.

There is another way out of this without having to go in with guns blazing....

The rains are starting and the army has cut off access to fresh food and clean water. There are thousands of ppl in a small area. So probably thousands of litres of piss and <deleted> everyday.

With the rains, everything will become contaminated. Add heat and humidity.

This is the tropics, cholera and dysentry should start in afew days......

Actually it's quite difficult for the Army to completely seal off the area. Most of the troops probably don't know the area. If you live downtown you know there are many ways to get to the same place. They need some local Police help to do that and I just don't think the Police can be trusted to do much of anything.

CRES Demands Protesters Leave Ratchprasong

The Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situations has ordered protesters to leave the Ratchprasong area before 3 P.M. today.

Officials say refusing to do so can result in a two yearjail term. Buses are being provided for those who wish to leave.

Hmmm, I think I should be on the CRES payroll, they are starting to implement measures I suggested here days ago. Also they have at last frozen assets of Thaksin and his cronies. I think this should be announced by sms and loud speakers to the protest site - Two years in jail and you're not getting paid, you have till 3.00pm today to leave.

This announcement has been made numerous times over the last weeks as have the buses being available. The only difference is the deadline. And agree on the freezing funds.

They are not killing "civilians". The army are shooting at armed thugs.

"Civilians" don't set up barricades of tyres and light them. "Civilians" don't shoot RPGs at hotels. "Civilians" don't shoot weapons at the army.
