So @louthlincs .... is this a report by you that you have successfully extended for additional 30 days beyond 26-Sept, using an embassy letter?
no @audaciousnomad it is not. I have to return to ‘fang pon’ on the 11th, at which point I will then be in a position to confirm or otherwise. this was a report of what the immigration officer told me regarding the success rate of embassy assisted applications to date, which was encouraging but not yet confirmed in my case.

I was at the Muang Thong IO yesterday with a letter from the British Embassy. The immigration officer said no extension application with an official embassy letter has been refused to date. Hope this is reassuring.

Hi - same boat as yourself - uk/March/TR60. Tried to extend at chaeng wattana and muang thong both denied. there is loads on this topic at the moment and seems unfortunately in lieu of a further amnesty extension then visa agents are the only way forward for a medical / volunteer / education visa at a price to make your eyes water. keep me posted with any success at nonthaburi. cheers.

Any updates on this topic? I noticed the American embassy now providing support so wondered if Queen Betty is going to toe the line with her subjects in need!

Hi - could anyone suggest any IOs renowned for being particularly relaxed? I have an unused extension to a TR60, entering in March, and want to give myself the best shot at successfully using it. I don’t mind intra-provincial travel if that gets the job done. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

first the train incident and now this in the space of a few days - I feel sorry for the female population of Thailand with such frequent incidents of violence against them

How often such abhorrent acts occur there. Do people from all around the world wake up one morning and think to themselves "I'll go to pattaya to commit suicide" or is it just possible this place may corrupt the sense and sensibilities of humankind, time and time again...

totally subjective - however Thais do seem to think it is extremely healthy compared to western food which makes me wonder, as I often do, what is being taught at school here

2 years in jawa tenggah (central java) and I completely understand what you are saying original poster - they also invite you over to their houses and feed you with no motive, play chess and discuss things. the students talk to you about the jam, clash, beatles and the stones (all still very popular there) - 12 years here and all I get is, you kin sapicy, you farang chob poo ying peu dum tum mai, how much money you make bla bla bla.. small wonder most long timers here stick to expat circles is it really with such pleasant male counterparts

tragic - and just another one among hundreds of others I'll try not to mention the next time a taxi driver or whoever else tells me how Thais are the nicest people in the world. has the nice lady who
arranged her son in laws drive by shooting in ramkamhaeng been sent down yet btw?

if we posted on here every time we heard the word farang the servers would melt down - pot / kettle / black (or white)
-
this is an easy one - the data was taken from instagram folders tagged 'selfie'. of course being an English word, Thais would either not know it, refuse to use it because it would be unpatriotic to accept another language (of course thai will become the worlds lingua franca one day - durr) or the would have elevated the final vowel sound - if it was based on folders tagged selfiiiiiee we all know who'd be top on the podium - 3-2-1 - pepsiiiii

both sides are as bad as each other - the fundamental arguments are these, thaksin used populism policies to gain support - he probably doesn't care too much about the rural poor but uses them to further his own cause. in any case, those in the provinces get the attention they've never seen from the dems.
on the other side of the coin you have the dems and bkk elite families who have had decades to throw a few scraps to the provinces but their arrogance prevented them from doing so - 'they are just here to grow rice and clean our houses'. in favour of the dems, their intention is to quash thaksin, who has become a bit of a megalomaniac over the years (not that he's any worse than Suthep of course, both in dodgy land deals and causing trouble on the streets) but lets face it, who wouldn't like to see thaksin brought down a peg or two.
The dems could offer all the support in the world right now to the provinces but the people who live there know it'd only come for a few years before the arrogance returns and Bangkok turns the screws. at least with thaksin, they have hope.
when the unspeakable occurs - things will become even more complicated with a divide in family loyalties becoming less suppressed.
if you plan to continue living in Thailand for the next 10 years or even more, I'm sure you'll bear witness to some very interesting events.

well it's just lucky we have a stable government in place isn't it and no political turbulence on the horizon - doubtless these issues will soon be addressed in such ideal administrative circumstances

any usual family contributions will be deducted until u have enough brass to buy a new camera

embrace the ambience and try local nosh - fantastic???? really? Is that the ambience of dogs and beggars at your table of things fried in palm oil, or the locals with their mouts open and fingers up their noses and picking their feet?
You'd be lucky to see a thai go 2 days overseas without breaking out mama noodles - nowt wrong with liking your own grub.
Try the haddock at black swan bkk

even though they tell you they are lifers, most people do go home for health, family, career or just finally waking up and smelling the coffee reasons.
that newbies who are in the honeymoon period and criticise the vets eventually turn into vets themselves and become criticised by the new breed if newbies - the cycle continues

I guess this guy has never been to Singapore - was there last weekend for the F1. plush carpets, the clocks made by Hublot, the immigration have sweets on the counter and welcome smiles - different class from you non-smiley swamperoo - although you are admittedly better than Manchester, by a country mile.

awww diddums - how do you think their attitude would be if they read a similar story about western workers in thailand?

*feel sorry for those this happens to. again, this kind of experience should be printed on a pamphlet and issued together with air tickets in country of origin, with a footnote in bold reading, and no, 'yours will not be different'. does the same think happen to our fellow expats in other s/e asian countries? be interesting to hear any unbiased views from people with experience in other countries in the region.

feel sorry those it happens to. again, this should be printed on a pam

I heard on the news this morning passengers on the flight reported that as soon as the doors opened the cabin crew jumped out and away down the slides leaving the children and elderly to find their own way out - disgraceful

Sukhumvit ‘Hansum Maan’
in Bangkok
Posted
Sorry, I’ve never started a post in my 20 years in Bankers, but today I feel it would be remiss of me not to mention to my countrymen that upon leaving the robin hood this evening and walking off the beer towards Asoke BTS, I was offered female company on a long term basis for 500 baht or thereabouts on multiple occasions - I must add that I have never experienced this on sukhumvit since my arrival in 2000, pre BTS. Would this be considered long term rewards by warren Buffet, waiting it out for a good return after all those years in the English chippy at the end of cowboy, too tight to pay full whack?
