I live in Phuket now and have worked here for the last 6 years, but will shortly return to China to work there.

Worked in china before (not Kunming) but know China pretty well and have a fairly good idea of their mindset.

Salary of 50k is doable and you can live very cheaply if you go to Thai places and live a non extravagant lifestyle. You wouldn't save much (but depends on how frugal you are). Thailand is great but I really think Phuket is not the nicest place to move to in Thailand. The people here are quite aggressive and rude by Thai standards.

My advice - if you are a teacher, Chinese kids will be much better to work with, but if you decide that Thailand is the country for you, consider working somewhere else on a similar salary.

I am looking to buy a plot of land between 100-400 sq wah in a decent and secure Moo Ban around 10-20km from Chiang Mai.

Checked through internet links, and DD property seems quite good, but not really offering exactly what I want. As I already work in Thailand (not Chiang Mai), I am fully aware that someone could open a karaoke bar or shopping mall next to my house. Hoping to find somewhere in very quiet residential area with respectful neighbors.

Price wise - 500,000 - 900,000 baht?

Does anyone know of somewhere they could recommend? Or perhaps seen somewhere?

SankamPhaeng area was my initial target area although I am open to suggestions.

I speak reasonably good Thai if it helps and will be up in CM next week. I was planning on driving around, but any thoughts very welcome.
