1.
After reading through the other posts on this forum I shall ask my friend, who is in quite a responsible position, if she knows anything about a two tier pricing system. Stay tuned.
I would suggest it's no good complaining here unless the complaint is done properly so it becomes feedback to those with power. It is no good complaining to an underling, not in Thailand, and it's certainly not helpful to be angry. The post about the baby sounds appalling. I hope you complained in that case. If you don't complain......properly but politely.....how will things change?

Sleepyjohn, I assume you are talking about the post about the birth of my son?

Of course we made a complaint about our expereince. We received 1 phone call from some desk jockey assuring us they would look into the situation. My wife fully explained everything that happened and the things we were not happy about with service provided at the Cm ram.

I did not put my experience in the forum to complain, I simply put it here to make others aware of the poor service as I would not like anyone regardless of who they are experience poor services with something so important in our lives as health care.

  2. Congratulations.

My wife and I welcomed our first child into the world at the Chiang Mai Ram hospital last month, see me post about this on the topic " Chiang Mai Ram Bill - charged then reduced" for our experiences - not good.

However our son is healthy and so is my wife.

Appart from the doctor who performed the circumcision on our son all the other doctors we dealt with seemed proffessional, the nurses are another story.

It cost us around 60K THB, this was a c section with 3 nights in a private room.

We first went to the ladies hospital mentioned in previous post and felt we were being treated like cattle, not really an upto date service provided there. however many people say that hospital is the most professional hospistal in Chiang Mai in regards to child birth.

I can't give you any other recommendation other than don't go to the CM Ram, shop around, have somewhere that is convenient for the both of you and most importantly a doctor that your wife is comfortable and confident with.

    Best of luck.

Where are you from in Australia, I am from Busselton in WA.

  3. Another cost that you may incure is tax on certain items when clearing them from the port. I found out that because my partner, who is Thai lived with me abroad as a permanent resident in Australia for more than 5 years we did not have to pay tax on certain items. Don't know exactly what tax applies to what and how much, but i do know that we made a fair savings from this info. I am not sure if you have a Thai partner and if the same rules apply for different countries but thought it may be worth you knowing this.

As mentioned in other posts, do not take the first price you are offered for the processing of you shippment on the BKK docks either, bargain and bargain hard with the company in BKK not only for their services but also the services of the company moving your goods from BKK to Chiang Rai.

Here is the eamil address of the Lady that helped my wife and I get our shippment cleared and up to CM, she was most helpful, did everthing over the phone and internet. [email protected] The company I used in Australia organised this company for me from OZ my wife compared the costs with another company in CM and there was little difference.

    Charges incurred:

    Customs formailty charges 3500THB

    Inspector fee 3000 THB

Extention for customs card 500 THB

    Service charges 500 THB

Rent 210 THB (not sure what this is for)

    Labour and equipment 500 THB

Transport to CM 13000 THB - overnight and only our goods on load

  4. Where is the war in Saudi?

It doesn't matter what country you are working in, a oil rig is a dangerous peice of equipment where ever it is especially with people that don't know what there are doing but think they do.

You don't have to work in dangerous countries to earn money like that, it is also available in peaceful countries, but you may have to do the work yourself rather than have 10 arabians or indians to do the work for you.

As most expats work on an even rotations eg 28 days on and 28 days off you will also find that the 1k per day actually works out to 500/day as they do not get paid for their time off, makes it sounds better if you say 1k per day though I guess.

The worst part about the job is that you have to spend half your life away from your loved ones to earn such good money!!!!!!

  5. My wife recently gave birth to our first child at the CMR hospital. We were both disgusted with the service.

1)While we were in the delivery room and my wife in labour they let 2 visitors in to see what was happening, who I quickly kicked out.

2)We had just about had to fight with them to get our son out of the nursery to be with us - he was healthy so no reason for this.

3)We had suspicions that there was 1 nurse there on yaba.

4)My wife would ring the bell and there was a prompt answer over the microphone however what ever service she asked for either took ages to come or was never received at the room even just for panadol.

5)They never came to help my wife with bathing even on the 1st day when they said they would.

6)There was a farang in the room next door smoking.

7)During getting our son circumsized the doctors mobile rang so she stopped attending to our son and started with her phone, I thought this was most unprofessional.

8)A came in the room and said it was time for our son to be fed, she just took him away from my wife and started feeding him, we basically had to beg the nurse to give him back to my wife so she could feed him, he wasn't into the breast at this stage. On the same occassion the nurse changed our sons nappy then continued to feed him without washing her hands first, where's the hygene?

Even though the price is cheap compared to my home country (OZ) we know for sure that we will be looking for somewhere else to welcome our child into the world.

  6. If you have A- blood, and the inclination to help - go to McKormick hosppital and offer your red stuff!

Might save a life, and give you good kharma. I was sure i was A-, but it turns out I am A+ - couldn't help.

It is a Thai person in need (not that that should make a difference)

Go for it, and I hope you don't faint (I don't faint - I just want to!!!)

    Sincerely, Mark

    Hi,

I have group A blood but will have to check my details as I can't remember if it is - or +. I am currently offshore in Australia and due to return back to Chiang Mai within the next 5 days or so. Please send me a personal message with your contact details and I will check my details asap and get back to you.

    Good Luck

  7. The wife and I are moving to Chiang Mai and would like some advice from anyone who have moved internationally before. We are moving from Western Australia and received a couple of quotes that seem a little expensive - around aud 9500, we sold alot of our gear in oz so just have the basics like kitchen ware, lounge, dining table, tv, outdoor setting, bed, some white goods. Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.
