  1. If you mean the big established markets on Beach Road, Soi Country Club, and Theprasit Road. I love them. I would want to live near one. Great food. At good prices. Interesting, and entertaining.

Some vendors on the side walk. Can be a problem. If they take up too much space, and force people off the side walks, onto the road.

  2. The Toyota Prius. Has a very counter intuitive automatic gear shift lever. With this automatic gear shift stick. If you pull it backwards. The car will go forwards. If you pull it forwards. The car will go backwards. This can be very confusing. Even if you have had a Toyota Prius for a while. It can still trip you up this way. I wonder, if Toyota has the same set up. With the vehicle at issue. Other wise, the Toyota Prius is a great car.

I personally don't like carrying a lot of cash with me.  For cash during our visits I use a debit card that refunds the ATM fee back to me.  I use a debit card from Scottrade Bank and withdraw up to 20,000 Baht at a time any time from just about any ATM in Thailand.  There are other card issuers that refund the fees also.  Look around to see which ones refund international ATM fees.  When using the card, the kiosk always shows a screen, that you have to accept, that says there will be a 200 Baht fee.  But at the end of the month the debit card statement refunds back all the fees incurred during the statement period.   Very nice.
I have the debit card account connected to my regular US bank account, so I can replenish the balance in the debit card account as needed during my stay.

The Schwab ATM cards refunds the fees. You can also get  $15.000 USD equivalent in cash. At a Bank. This is according to Schwab. Will give it a try on my next visit.

  4. Thailand really needs to have minimum safety requirements for motorcycle helmets. It is time to do this. It is in the best interests of the people. I understand that this can be cost prohibitive for poor people. A low, or no interest loan scheme. Would help resolve this issue. Similar to what was done to help first time car buyers. Insurance companies should also have a insurance discount, for people, who buy the helmets.

In my view it is not the free visa which can atract people, it may be a visa free entry at the border that can.

It is not the fees that are the problem when people apply for visas it is the physical logistic delay of sending pasports to get them and the waiting, not so bad if you are in the city where the visa is issued but a pain if not.

For me this is a problem. I am a British and American citizen. I am 61 years old, retired, and live in a cold State. With long winters. In this State their is no Thai Consulate. I ideally would like to spend 3 to 4 months in Thailand each year. Likely, soon I will retire in Thailand. But, to get the proper Visa, at the Thai Embassy, in the United State of America. Is a confusing problem for me. If they could make it simpler and less confusing for me. I would be more than grateful and appreciative. I more than meet the financial requirements for retirement.

  6. yes,, its really brave of him,,, but also very risky!!!

he has just sent some bad guys to jail !!!! surely the future is now dangerous for this french guy. (unless of course he is planning to go back to France).

if he is to stay in Pattaya, then now he has to spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder.

its good what he did, but it comes with scary consequences.

They are not. The USA Mafia of the old days. In fact they are not the Mafia at all. They were small time extotionists. You must stand up to people like that!

  7. I have known a number of people who bought similar Bikes. The problem is that a Bike like you suggest buying is unusual enough. That it attracts too much unwanted attention. In other words. The likelihood of it being stolen is high. Wheras, if you get a used more standard Bike. Like a 110 Wave. It is much more unlikely that it will be stolen. Few 300 many 110's.

  8. My suggestion is that they work on replenishing, and enlarging the beaches. I would suggest a consultation with the US corp of Engineers. They do excellent work replensihing the beaches in Clear Water, and St Pete Florida. The Building of breakwaters would be needed to prevent further beach errosion. The beaches are too narrow now.

  9. A lot of millionaires are frugal thats why they have money.

Warren Buffet is a classic example, lives in average house and drives older car.

Not every one must stay in 5 star luxury to be happy!

Not every one must have the most expensive car. That they can afford to drive to be happy. I drive a 2012 Chevy Cruise Lt. I can afford to drive a Mecercedes. I own one car. I could certainly afford to own several.

I live in a $250.000 home. I could afford a home that costs twice as much.

I don't blow my money on things. Like some of you, who have commented would. It surprises and saddens me. To read that some of you find it an impossible idea that, I do as, I say I do.

Why do you think that a wealthy person cannot be wise in their expenditures, and that they must have matrialistic luxury? Is it because, that is the way that you would be?
