  1. so why does it work in New York? And here, where people are even less inclined to go shopping themselves?

Anyways, I talked to Villa people, and they said they are working on their online inventory, and will open the site when they're finished.

In New York/America is probably more organized.

They actually listen to their customers.

Maybe this was already covered but is there any grocery stores or Supermarkets that are open 24 hours in Bangkok? I mean I lived in a very small town in the UK and we had places open 24 hours, I know Thailand is a "3rd World Country" but Bangkok is a major city.

  2. I know this might be a long shot but does anyone know anywhere in Bangkok where I can rent a digital SLR or maybe a Hybrid for a day?

Ok forget the rental, I'm going to buy one preferable used because I'm short of cash right now. Anyone know of any used camera stores downtown?

  3. I suspect the Ekamai outlet is actually IQ lab who (as far as I know) do not stock film - excellent processing though.

    If I'm wrong I apologise.

As I am too far away to "pop into" Silom complex I wonder if the next time you are there if you could establish their wiilingness to accept mail order to supply me in Hua Hin? They don't seem to have a website for me to make contact

    Would appreciate any info.

Here's another link all in Thai http://www.procolorlab.com/

    And a recent discussion http://www.largeformatphotography.info/for...ead.php?t=39951

    Thanks for the links.

To be honest I'll settle for a place that does decent processing, the Kodak lab in Central Bangna drives me crazy. The amount of times I've gone on there and they've said either 1 hour or 3 days (depending on what I want) and every time I go back to collect my film/prints they scramble around and then say "come back 5/10/30 minute" I wouldn't mind if they this happened occasionaly but it has been every single time! Judging by some of the prints they have on their wall if I was teenage girl I wouldn't be having this problem.

I've just gone in there now for a roll of 120 that they were processing and I got the same response "come back 30 minute" What the fuc_k have they been doing for the last 3 days?!?! Apologies for the rant but these guys are starting to wear down my patience, which is usually a very difficult thing to do.

Anyway next time I go to the place in Silom I will ask if they have a mail order service and let you know either way.

  4. Thanks for coming back.

Keep in touch please with anything about MF film etc - good to exchange dealers, services and the like.

i.e. I've just had delivered a very nice lightbox from these people:-

    Medalight Co., Ltd.

I've been looking all over BKK for one.

Yeah I went to the place in Silom Complex (I think it's called Foto Hobby) and they had the best selection of film I've seen in Bkk and shockingly it was refrigerated :o I've heard there's a place in Ekammai but so far I've been unable to find it. Does anyone here know where it is?

  5. Oh well, looks like I'll have to start (request) a Medium Format section!

Or would I be the sole contributor? :o

No I would contribute as well :D and thanks to the guys who gave the info on fir the place on Silom. I heard there was somewhere on Ekamai but I'm not sure where. Maybe I'll check out this place at Silom though.

I did find somewhere in MBK that sold 120 black and white, although it was the typical situation here, I said "do you sell meduim format film?" the guy behind the counters say "no, sorry" I notice a couple of rolls of what looks like kodak 120 on the shelf behind him so I say "what is that film?" he looks and says "oh yes, sorry" so I ask "do you have any black and white?" of course he say "no,sorry" so I ask to see the kodak film, he pulls it of the shelf and show me Kodak Tmax 400, which is black and white film, I point this out to him and of course you can guess his response...

I didn't ask him whose newphew he was though :D

  6. I have to say I thought there would have been a better response to this but maybe not maybe people are using medium format film anymore.

Anyway if anyone else is having the same problem I think I've found somewhere, I just had an email from Foto File telling me that they sell 120 medium format film at their MBK branches.

  7. I am not able to reach the Bangkokpost website in the last hour. anyone else has a problem with it? I am in Bangkok with a True connection.

    Waerth

I have a True connection and I was able to see the page.

One question I have is how safe is it in Bangkok for farangs right now? For example I need to go to Siam Square later, should I postpone this trip until things have either calmed down or have been resolved?

I would think that it's quite safe in Bangkok right now, as long as you avoid the areas where the protesters are gathering. I don't believe the Thai people are about to start attacking foreigners unless they are stupid enough to go down to Government House or Sanam Luang and try to get involved.

Just go on about your business and don't worry.

    Thanks :o

  9. Rather than go hunting around all the camera shops downtown I wondered if anyone knows where to buy 120 medium format film? I know they sell it in Loft at Siam Discovery but I live in Bangna and it's a long way to go just for a few rolls of film.

  10. Thanks for the all the responses to this.

It's filipino couple, he works and she doesn't I have actually tried talking to her, the first time it happened I politely aske her if she could turn it down and she was very rude to me, the second time she just slammed the door in my face.

I don't anyone else could complain because I think the people in the apartment next to hers are out all day so it's just me that get's disturbed by this, although sometimes she starts up at 5am when my wife gets up so she is going to complain.

I have tried the speakers option, I blast a repetitive song at her for 2 mins at high volume and after the 3rd or 4th go she usually turns it down, I guess it's like rubbing a dogs nose in sh*t, eventually she realizes she shouldn't do it :o

  11. The woman in the apartment opposite mine is such a nuisance, I work from home and she makes so much noise if she's not blasting out power ballads with her karoake machine, she has her TV and Radio so loud I can hear it in my apartment, sometimes it hard for to get any work done. I've complained to the aprtment manager several times and everytime she goes quiet but it never lasts more than a day or a few hours.

This is driving me crazy, is there anything I can do about this?

  12. We're going to Chiang Mai for New Years Eve but I'm a bit overwhelmed by the number of guesthouses listed, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced one?

Also is there a good chance most of the accomodation will be booked up?

  13. I've told many Thais that my cousins play/played in a big rock band - The Jesus and Marychain but only a few in Bangkok years go knew of them.

My uncle was a famous heart surgeon and my great grandfather was Angus McPhail, the famous bagpipe composer.

Another uncle played for Partick Thistle back in the 70s.

Nice!! I saw JAMC live at Brixton Academy on the Rollercoaster Tour. a great night :o

  14. Nisei, I'm not sure why this was moved to the Teaching forum, and if you want it in the visa forum, we'll put it there.

Do you wish to teach in Thailand? If so, you're in the right ThaiVisa forum. There is a huge thread about Qualifications for teachers that you might want to post your qualifications, if you want to teach.

Yes, could you put it in the Visa forum please?

I'm not a Teacher my girlfriend is and she already has a visa. My question was about if I would be able to join her there, what visa and work permits would I need.

I have no interest in teaching in Thailand but I would like to know what other type of work is available.

  15. Hello, I'm new to this forum and I hope I've put this in the right place. My girlfriend who lives in America has been offered a job teachiing in an international school in Thailand. The scholl say that they will arrange a 2 year working visa for her.

I live in the UK and would like to join her if she goes. Would it be difficult for me to get a Visa and would it be possible for me to find work there?

    Thank you.
