  2. Although green tea is one of those thing sold to us as being a great health aid full of antioxidants it actually contains flouride, as does red and black tea!

  3. Hello, I don't really understand the milking the system comments either seems a bit of a generalisation. I am booked to fly in next week and planned on staying my 30 days then traveling by land to Cambodia staying there for a month then returning via land for my last month!

If i'm correct in my understanding of what I read this will not be possible sadly! Could somebody please advise me of what my best and reasonably priced options are. Thanks

You will not have a problem because you will flying in and then leaving overland for a month and then you will be entering by land.

The way the translation reads they don't count air and land entries as being the same. Plus they will be looking for those leaving and entering the same day,

Is that a dead cert as I cant afford to leave the country and be denied entry as I obviously need to return for my flight. If thats so I presume it will be 15 days coming back in then! Also is it possible to do this more than once? Thanks for your reply Joe

  5. The only other option I can think of would be a bit expensive and maybe not suit your schedule.

Arrive with a Tourist Visa. This would give 60 days and can be extended at Immigration for a further 30 days. (1,900 Baht).

The minute you leave the country your stay will Finish unless you get a Re Entry Permit from Immigration.

This does not add any time but keeps your permission to stay alive.

Example. Arrive on 10th May and get 60 days. Enter Cambodia on 15th May and stay for 3 days. When you return you will be stamped in for around 50 days.

    Re Entry Permit fees.

    Single 1,000 Baht.

    Multi 3,800 Baht.

Thanks to all those who have posted and been quite helpful, so I guess there's no chance of me being able to apply for a Non imm O visa on tthe basis of visiting and staying with my friend and his family!

  6. Hi everybody, I would like a little information regarding what visa I would be eligible for and which is best suited for my purpose!

Well I am a 40 year old British Citizen and I'm looking to come to Thailand with the intention to travel a little, one of my main reasons for visiting is to spend time with a close friend and his family . I would like to visit neighbouring countries so ideally looking for a visa that would allow me multi entry; I'm looking to be able to stay possibly 90 days, who knows maybe more!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. Rusty

  7. I do tip generaly like what has been said, if and when I believe the service has been of a good level or I believe they have made the effort. Although I have specificaly made a point of not tipping when I'm being 'told' or what they may see as 'asking' tip and mostly in these cases the afore mentioned person comes out with the insults Kineow ect. I remember one time the person trying to take a tip from my change in other words withholding lol to me this tends to get the opposite.

In response to the op's question none apply to me!

  8. any more sensible answers please? Thaiphoon seems to be on the right path....

There is a difference between someone getting pulled up for dancing and someone getting pulled up facing a 50,000B fine and possible jail sentence/deportation...

Sorry Mario, dancing may be be very important to you but i'm just looking for an answer regarding where the Office of the Private Education Commission is coming from.

    TJK

Firstly thank for your response Mario!

I apologise for the thread jacking with asking a question which is relevant to me, but as it seemed of a similar nature I though <deleted>. I did also think that you had received replies which made things clear, but as usual things are not so clear cut. And dancing is important to me, considering it is one of my livelihoods, not Mr Mario he was just kindly pointing out what was required for me. Hope you gain clarity on your situation. Thanks Rusty

  9. The definition of work from the Dept. of Employment. http://www.doe.go.th/service3_en.aspx

    1. Definition

"Alien" means a natural person who is not of Thai nationality; " Work " means to engage in work by exerting energy or using knowledge whether or not in consideration of wages or other benefits.

Have a look at the Alien Working Act 2551 , particularly Section 9 onwards that refers to Work Permits.

I have to say that I'm all for everything being above board, yet the definition to me seems somewhat a little generalised ! What doesn't take exertion of energy coupled with knowledge? One example, I love to dance If I go out somewhere and decide i am going to dance, whether it may be in a club or in the street, with others that are dancing then I am liable ? Some may think stupid question but the danc I engage in is 'breakdancing' and I have danced before with others who were busking but who decides whe that fine line is crossed from doing something of pleasure and work and how is it gauged. I believe I know the possible responses but anyone like to elaborate in a sensible and logical manner would be appreciated.Ta

  10. Are you sure it was because your feet were pointing to the headboard,or was it because your head was pointing to the West? I believe that West is the direction you arelaid to rest in, meaning only the dead sleep with their head in this direction. I had a GF move my bed once after I moved itunder the window because of this. Shesaid under no circumstances would she sleep in a bed facing this direction. The other explanation is Buddha is as thehead, so you should not put your feet there - if it was not related to West.

I don't believe it had anything to do with direction although, she may have failed to explain properly and this may have been the reason. But as I'm aware the head is the most sacred and the feet the dirtiest so would certainly make sense not to do this if you didn't want to offend someone. I don't think all Thais would be cremated, although what you say would make sense, but I did think this was the case with most!

  11. I remember being told you shouldn't lie on the bed with your feet at the headboard end! (Apparently something to do with dead people)

Bagwan: Unsure if I would call it a phenomena, I believe there is more than what can be perceived by the senses and there is a reasonable explanation regarding the reasons for and why; also has nothing to do with Thai wives tales.

  12. i come here to find enlightenment and true happiness.

Well talking, typing about issues that your unhappy with is one way of expressing how you feel, also without people coming together in certain instances change would never have occurred (speaking generally). Although I do agree that to harp on about the same thing or to find things to pick at is definitely not beneficial for anyone, maybe for those they should reconsider watching relocation relocation or get a mind transplant. Not that I ever mind anyone having a good bi#ch as I can always remove myself from the situation.

Wish the OP best of luck in what you seek! but I do believe anyone looking for this; is in the wrong place as it an internal job. Although one man's happiness and enlightenment may differ to another's. Peace

  13. Hello everyone,

Ok I am hoping to come to Thailand around August my intention is to stay with a family friend for some time and also travel around Thailand and maybe go and visit Cambodia. I am a dance teacher and a Youth worker with a BA hons, my plan would be to travel for a few months returning to stay with my friend in between my travels. I was considering possibly looking for work hopefully youth orientated although it seems my best option maybe teaching English due to their being a demand my question really is where would I stand, what are my options and what would I be required to have with me. Last time I was over, I was offered the possibility of teaching dance in an international school in BKK due to me having no Work permit coupled with having to return home ect I declined. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks. Andy

  14. It seems people dont seem to realise that it is only the past few years that passport picture requirements have been tightened up somewhat! My last passport which would still have been in date, Ok maybe not, it ran out on 11th May has my eyes looking to the side (similar to when the police used to take your pic and they said look at the star) Also it is not a fullly square on picture. Yes I am wearing a shirt but that is not the point I am making.

Burrowes, on the other hand. was totally innocent but was pulled, accused and held in prison for far longer than was necessary because he was black.

Didn't his highly suspect passport photo have something to do with his being pulled aside and questioned?

    simonburrowes02passport1-150x150.gif

Possibly, but only if you are so intellectually challenged or institutionally hidebound by a racial prejudice that you actually conclude that an apparent state of undress depicted in the photograph is sufficient evidence of forgery and that as a consequence it was not original to the document in which it was contained.

Had it been presented by any one of the thousands of white tourists passing through immigration at Phuket airport it would be a racing certainty the outcome would have been altogether different.

So a highly unusual passport photo of a shirtless man taken from an unusual angle and doesn't match the normal standard of the thousands of passport photos that pass in front of immigration every day wouldn't arouse suspicion as to its authenticity..

except if it's a black man involved???

I find that impossible to believe.

  15. This is all so funny, ha ha ha, but this man may be heading to jail, and people die in Thai jail. I am disgusted this man was jailed for nothing (even if all the charges are true which is very hard to believe) and disgusted by the reaction here to this.

It is nice to see that there are a couple of people on here who have some compassion! and can also accept there is a larger picture and not relying soley on subjectivity. I have noticed this far too much on this forum, although there is some great infoormation and helpfull people many are quick to condemn (in words on here) with knowing so little information or it coming from maybe one source; most of the time hearsay.

I agree that swearing at any individual wether they be an 'official' or not is unnecessary and helpfull to none. But in the real world sometimes the majority of us can become overwhelmed with our emotions and express ourselves in a negative way! Maybe he had not had a great time on his visit, had to get home for a funeral of a relative ect ect who knows the full story really, but as usual so many are quick to jump in, before you know it the 'bad man' is hung drawn and quartered. It all seems over the top for me but I refrain from commenting as it would be pointless speculation. Have fun

  16. Not so much a recent sighting but yes Bkk to Chiang Mai in 2005 and there was a woman serving food who looked like a man (dont think she was katoey as they are men usually looking like women) She didnt take much of a shine to me either, taking my own food into the restaurant car ah well :o
