  1. Thanks so much for your kind words guys. Im feeling better in myself thanks to your comments .

I will be with him in about 12 days, and i am sure will have a much better understanding of what is happening. He is under going a major bowel operation now as i type, also being monitered for his heart , an operation on that will no doubt be the next course of treatment on the little guy.

So much for him to deal with at 7 months old . This being the second op on his bowel , the first one failed in july this year, and i spent the duration (6 week) sleeping at the hospital in Korrat with him .

Thanks for kind pms , i have forwarded thankyous

  2. first, try to get info off the net and from your home country to give u real specifics;

second, someone recently posted on a center for learning disabilities with the words in thai, so find it, and go for a visit may be able to help u; it was in issaan forum also very recent, like in november

third, down syndrome-i think there is some other member (a woman i think) who has a brother with down's so try posting in general to see what response u will get

fourth, downs nowadays is more 'dealable' depending on how developed he is, including physical problems that come with it, but definitely handleable compared to some other things... and thai people seem to have less problem dealing than we do with 'different' children, especially downs as they are very affectionate people.

hope these practical things help u out... but do them as first steps to going forward and helping your son and his momma and you...

    good luck

  6. Hi can anyone one help .?

My girlfriend in Phimai (Nr Korrat) is due to give birth to our son in 3 weeks time. All dates check out , and ultra sound scans show the baby is a boy.

I need information regarding the babys surname , we want the baby to have my surname as father. How do we go about this ? Do i contact the British Embassy in the uk ,or can it be done in thailand. Is the baby named with my name automatically at the hospital. What are the pros and cons etc ?

I built a house in Phimai 2 years ago ,so my girlfriend has her own address. I am 40 years old so is she , and i still work in the uk. She and i have been together now for 4 years.

I am booked to fly over on 10th may ,so hopefully i will make in time for birth. I just feel i need to be armed with information rather than arriving without a clue. Anyone who can help me in all asspects i will be so grateful :o

  9. Hi Mac1

It is so cheap to rent a room anywhere really in Isaan it begs the question why would you want to share with someone else. Your own room would give a base and privacy from which you could explore the region. Take a drive or taxi through any city or town in the north east and its not long before you see signs up showing places for rent. My sister-in-law rents an apartment within Ubon city for 1,200B/month very basic but i've seen very clean nice rooms for rent for 3,500B/month. Just explore and take refuge in a short term hotel for a few days until your are sorted with a place to long term rent.

    Jay

Please let me be more clear :

I not want to share a room. Not want roommates. I look for people who have a business RENTING OUT spare bedroom or better : a small guest house in their garden for rent. Why ? I like to meet the local people and to maybe find a lifetime partner, read :wife. Anyone who know rural Thailand know that you must be introduced by friends, to get a chanse to date a nice lady. So if you stay with another foreigner and his wife, the wife usually know many nice ladies who are interested in a foreign husband.

Renting a room by myself, just doesn't work. Without Thai friend who can introduse you to other Thai people- not easy to get a date ...

Been there - done that. :D

Hope this clear up any misunderstandings.

    :o I see where your coming from.........good idea !!

I cannot help as no extra space but i will ask friends in the village. Are you worried about type of accomadation, AC etc ?

  10. An acquaintance of mine once told me "You could live here for 100 years, but everyday you'll see something that surprises you". Having been visiting now for almost a tenth of that time I am still occasionally surprised.

The same man told me that all farang males in Thailand have a sexual encounter with a ladyboy at some point. Well, I'm not surprised anymore!

Does there ever come a point at which you find yourself numb to this place? I can't even remember what it's like to date a white girl.

How can so many people in Thailand fall in love so deeply, so fast and so frequently? Furthermore, what is it about this love that drives Thai people to become so utterly and helplessly obsessed with their victims?

It's come full circle now, as here I am hooked on the omnipotent entity that is the Thai Girl. There's just something about her, and no doubt she's the reason why there are so many of us hapless farang males out here. I don't remember falling in love every day in the UK, neither do I remember seeing so many girls with such sexual authority (or is this just a figment of my imagination?)

It sounds terrible, but I honestly don't think I will be able to look at farang girls in ths same way. Perhaps it's the relative novelty of the Thai Girl, or maybe it's just the way life out here for a farang male. I know that if I was walking around the streets of my home town, I wouldn't be able to smile sweetly at every pretty girl I see; I'd be labeled a pervert. I couldn't gaze into the eyes of the girls at 7-eleven to force them to make eye contact and burst into fits of uncontrollable hysterics, I wouldn't be able to walk around with the vague confidence that comes with being different because I would be just another guy.

That's the appeal of a place like Thailand: It's easy to fall under the illusion that you are somebody, when in reality you are not. but it goes beyond this. Can you ever get so used to being here that there is no such thing as going back 'home'?

  11. I have read this thread "cover to cover". I have read all the news reports, its taken me a couple of days. My heart goes out to family and friends of the two girls.

Afew points i would like to mention.

Many involved in this debate feel that the two women were murdered elsewhere...this due to the positioning of their bodies. I dont feel this is the case as many of the photos i have seen , the girls are in differant positions.

Its obvious the police have moved the girls around while the journalists were snapping away !

10 bullet wounds were found on the bodies ,but only 5 shells were found. I believe one bullet could have passed through 2 girls ...(2 times 5 = 10) 5 shots were heard by the security guard

I dont believe these girls were prostitutes , but i do feel the their execution quite simply, could have been a warning to Russian Prostitutes in the area.

Only my opinion , but many attacks, robberies, on russians in Pattaya over the last year.

I hope this case comes to a conclusion as soon as possible

  12. My House in Phimai. Its a two bedroom property, large kitchen, large lounge, separate toilet, and shower room.

I completed the build last year. Work still needed outside, scaping etc.

Oops , admin could you re size it for me :o . Many Thanks

  13. Shame you havnt any footage i would of liked to have seen.

I was fortunate my brother was there to take the movie, no way i could have done because as you know myself and girlfriend were part of the ceremany aswell. No doubt your ceremany was the same.

I had 7 monks for the blessing , others i know of, had 9 monks.!! I know that odd numbers are lucky..........can anyone "enlighten" me on the significance of that ammount of monks. And could the same be achieved with say 3 monks ?

  14. My first post on the forum :D

(you tube link .......just over 6 mins long )

:o Hope you didnt find the video to boring. It really is one of those "You had to be there situations"

Has anyone else got any footage of similar "Blessings" , marriage, good luck etc. I would be interested to compare !

  15. Korat is a fantastic city .

I have stayed at the Sima Thani Hotel. Lovely hotel ...........huge buffet breakfast. Little bit pricey for korat but i am informed it is one of or is the best hotels At around 1,800 per night, you cant go wrong . Situated not to far from bus station .........50 bht tuk tuk .

  16. I have never stayed over, but a friend told me there is an establishment in the grounds of the Phimai Inn that attracts a steady stream of Thai businessmen visitors. Don't know if it has a bar. This hotel has a pool but is on the bypass, so won't be convenient for anything in the town. It used to have a website but I can't find it now.

Thanks citizen, yep i think ive driven passed the Phimai Inn , as you say its a bit out of town. Although, if myself and tilac could have a meal and a drink there , it would be worth a visit.Obviously stay the night aswell !!

Ive had a few nights out in Phimai, and each time started at a bar on the corner near the bus station in front of the market. A pretty good bar, karaoke etc. Other than that we have sat in a restaraunt opposite the station for a few hours watching the masses do their open air keep fit classes :o

Thanks again for the suggestion..............definate food for thought .

  17. Planning a long stay in Phimai. I have a house about 30 kilometres north of Phimai. Long old bumpy road to village.........bit dodgey at night.

If i were to spend a night in Phimai (hotel for the night best option) could anyone recommend a decent nightspot. ?

I know of shrimp fishing restraunts, and the big karaoke just outside of Phimai. Ive eaten a few times near the Historical Monument, any good bars that are safe and near Phimai guest house or hotel ?

    Many Thanks Cat :o

  18. Two years ago i stayed in Krabi, most nights i used to drink at Sharkey`s Bar in Ao Nang, could someone tell me if the bar is still there or was it flattened by sunami ? Two small bars near to sharkys ,were Jimmys Bar and Ting Tong Bar, wondering whether they still are in business or not ?

    Thanks Catcrumpet :o
