Have you checked the status of your company? That was 6 years ago.

If you aren't able to do that then PM me the company name and/or the company number and I'll check for you.

Thanks for asking; the company is still active; they left us a notice at the house where the company was registered saying things were delinquent. I showed the notice to the lawyer and gave me the quote to properly close it and also the advice that he hasn't know of anyone to actually have an issue with not closing it properly. My wife and I have property/house in our own names and I do plan to go back and live there in a few years. Would be nice not to have to "sweat it" . Maybe I could sell it to someone who is never planning to come back to Thailand; or pay them to take it. Any takers?

  2. I've been out of Thailand for a few years and am hoping someone could reply with their ideas on the most effective places to advertise/post my home for rent in Kathu Phuket.... Before the Phuket Gazette and Phuket News site worked well; but not this time around. Thanks for any suggestions.

Note: Don't actually include a link to your recommendation; the moderator will delete your post; just write the name of the business and I'll search for it from there.

    Thanks for any recommendations!

  3. Does the Bang Na or Chaeng Watthana passport offices take appointments for the passport renewal? The lady at the Royal Thai Consulate Los Angeles who stamped some documents for me is saying to make an appointment with the Bangkok office so she can email/fax/send the documents to get their faster then post.

We tried to call Chaeng Watthana... no answer... does anyone have an updated address or phone number for the Bang Na passport renewal office?

Thanks again for any suggestions :)

You will have to send a notarized consent form for your wife to apply for the passport. You should contact the embassy in DC or one of the consulates in New York, Chicago and Los Angles since they will have to notarize it.

The letter of consent form in Thai can be downloaded here. http://www.consular.go.th/main/contents/files/services-20120630-195748-510034.pdf

Passport application info is here in Thai. http://www.consular.go.th/main/th/services

Thanks again for the quick and helpful reply..... I'm in Seattle; will I need to travel to the embassy or consulates? Or can I have something notarized locally and send to them? Please say I don't need to fly/drive across the country!  Thanks again!

A Thai can enter the country with a expired passport.

He cannot depart the country with a expired passport. He will have to have a new one.

Thanks very much for the quick reply....  To renew his passport; if I'm the father and I'm not in Thailand; can he get a passport with just his legal mother present or do I need to send documents? Thanks very much for any more details!

  6. My wife and 13year old son are both dual citizens of Thailand and USA.... They recently entered Thailand via their Thai passports... my son's Thai passport is expired but his USA passport is valid. ( Not sure why/how they stamped him in on his expired passport or why his mother didn't use the valid usa passport ) .... Given that he entered Thailand on his expired Thai passport; will he be able to exit Thailand without renewing his expired Thai passport?

    Thanks for any ideas!

  7. I searched the forum and was surprised that there are no posts discussing coins.co.th ... they are a bitcoin exchange in Thailand. They are super handy for the following:

    • Sending money from overseas to all major Thai banks ... I routinely have money in my Siam Commercial account within an hour of deciding to send from USA. No need to visit the bank here in usa/whereever.
    • Paying bills such as AIS, True Move, internet providers, etc.

I use coinbase.com to get money from my Wells Fargo account ( instant ) to bitcoin... then send from coinbase to my coins.co.th account. Once the money is in coins.co.th you can send it to all major thai bank accounts or vendors.

Fees are super low. If you are sending over a certain amount ( say 3000 usd ) it might be cheaper to just send via swift and pay the flat wire fee.

If you leave money in your coins.co.th account it is in bitcoin form; and it's value changes quickly from day to day and sometimes within a day... so it is best not to keep it in bitcoin form unless you are fine speculating on btc value.

Hope this helps some of you save time and money!

  8. Thanks very much for the replies..... for some reason the sim card dies over here in usa every 6 months.... it won't register on the networks. We call AIS... they send a new card... it works great for several months... it dies... we repeat. Becomes a hassle when doing online banking and OTP ( one time passwords ) .

    Thanks again for the ideas!

  9. AIS or 12 Go used to have a way to view text messages online ( not 100% positive on this ) ... .is there currently a way to do that now?

Alternatively; is there a way to configure the account to forward text messages to an email address or other phone number?

Thanks very much for any tips!

  10. Yann, thanks for your input... the tenant is paying directly to us from him.... no companies involved. I think he has a work permit but not exactly sure which type.

We have another small townhouse that we rent directly to a Scottish guy with a retirement visa.... they wouldn't give him his visa unless we filled out the tm30 ( in Phuket Town ) . We filled out a tm30 pdf with all of the foreigner info as well as our info ( private thai homeowner ) . He printed it and brought it with him to get his visa sorted. So we figured we better check to make sure we were good legally on our second townhouse.

    Thanks for any other suggestions.

  11. We had to purchase because we wanted the mother in law to fly with her daughter on the same flight.... she'd probably get lost and miss her connecting flight without assistance!

We ended up booking our ticket... if we don't get the visa we get most of the ticket price back. Ticket to usa was 35,000 ... we'd get back around 30,000 if we return the ticket. We booked with an agent in Phuket.
