  1. I feel sorry for the injuries this man got and wish him well. But -

who knows who is telling the truth ?

And I am not surprised by the guards being alert and using force when being attacked or something happens that looks like an attack. In those situations there is no time to consider. Better shoot first than be shot.

There is a reason for this. All the attacks on the peaceful protestors. Grenade attacks every night. Shooting and killing on a regular base.

Without these attacks security would not be necessary and this would not have happened.

Always keep in mind the violence came from the red shirts side first and guess - who are the unknown grenade attackers and shooters. It is a joke talking of a third party.

Clearly it is solely this group of violent undemocratic thugs that has to be accused - not only for this but for all the violence.

Clearly you believe only one group of people is capable of telling the truth. Another poster who can't see the woods for the trees.

  2. Let's think about this... What foreign country has an interest in Thai politics? Which foreign country has long standing secret oil deals with deals with Thailand negotiated by the Shins? Who is currently in control of a country that issued a passport and visa to the fugitive? Now, as to why the Navy thinks it was a foreign entity that did the Trat bombings it's simple... The attackers may have well been foreign, but it came from the Shins nonetheless.

    Pure and utter meaningless speculation.

  3. More and more Russians are coming. Next year you will also be flooded with Chinese like Chiang Mai is.

You might want to considering moving to a place where you can enjoy Thailand.

Right, no Americans or Brits ever drink and drive in Phuket. rolleyes.gif

Plenty of good Russians and Chinese out there; you're embarassing yourself with these generalisations. Quite frankly I'd take these Russians and Chinese over condescending people who make snap judgements on millions of people because of where they come from.

and you are dismissing what many studies into societal differences have observed, certainy nationalities display certain behaviours. Of cousre there are exceptions, but to say they do not is nonsense!

They do not what? I'm not sure I have a clue what your point is.

  4. The Shinawatra Tower 3 is said to house the SC Asset Company which is previously owned by Ms Yingluck Shinawatra.

Suthep vowed to pursue Yingluck at all places she went to bring the end to her power and rule in the country.

umm its just a guess but shes probably not there.

Still your learning difficulties shows through.

They are not there to grab the PM, they are there to disrupt the Shinawatra business interests and stop them making money in Thailand.

Please tell me that i read you wrong because a class of 11 year old children can read this and give a 200 word interpretation and not one of them would come up with your comment.

You are beyond help, I will skip all your posts from now on. they are clearly backward.

My my you are on form today with your bilious insults arnt you ?

Ever heard of sarcasm ? rolleyes.gif

When you include "Suthep vowed to pursue Yingluck at all places she went to bring the end to her power and rule in the country." in reference to your comment that is not sarcasm. That's your easy out while saving face not having to admit you misunderstood the OP.

    Seen it before.

I'll be honest Jamie, I have no idea what you are talking about. You are trying very hard, I'll give you that.

  6. I agree with Thailand to deport illegal refugees I should be the same all over even in North America who ever come on an non identified boat should not be allowed to cross the borer line.

Than if they do well " push them back to where they came from."

Thankfully some of the rest of humanity has a little compassion for our fellow man. Not all of us are c*nts.

  7. It always amazes me that muslim refugees never want to flee to muslim countries. They always outbreed their locale and then seek to go to Buddhist and Christian countries. Why stay in Indonesia (who wouldn't put up with their posturing) when they can go to Australia and play of the Christian guilt complex. Why don't the Rohingya go to a muslim country like Malaysia, or Indonesia. No, they prefer Buddhist Thailand to try to foist their 'religion of peace' in. I think the Rohingya come from what is now Bangladesh so why not go there, another muslim country. Thailand doesn't need more muslims killing Buddhist monks.

What a staggeringly ignorant comment. The Rohingya actually flee (from persecution by the Buddhists) in greater numbers to Bangladesh. Don't let facts get in the way of your angry little anti-Muslim rant though.

  8. 14 people at Silom last night and 23 at Asoke.

    The protests are over.

If what you say is true

Then why have the police not arrested all the protest leaders

on your words 13 protestors and much better than any police force

Can I please have a glass of what you have been drinking

Perhaps you should visit the sites before you make ridiculous comments like this. There are very few protesters at the sites now. I visited last weekend. There are, however, a lot of guards making sure the roads stay blocked. Why have the police not arrested the leaders? Well that's another question entirely.

  9. My goodness. That's one of the most biased articles I've seen on this situation. The author is not even trying to hide it.

It also needs to be run by the editor again for grammar checking, imho. Biased? I'm assuming this is op-ed which is opinion which is...well, biased.

grammar apart, I thought it gives a fair description of the situation without being biased, one way or another. The OP is not claiming victory of one side against the other. The outcome is still far from certain. IMO

    Not biased?

The unlikely hero is, Suthep Thaugsuban, former Democrat Party hotshot, who has reinvented himself into a popular mass leader, something he could not accomplish in his party. His rise as a leader with a staying-on power tells a lot about his background from a village chief.

    Seriosuly? It's hilarious.

  10. Not many people in the UK can save what you are saving each month. If you enjoy teaching in general then perhaps it's time to find a better job. If not, save some money and move on once you graduate.

To those of you knocking on-line degrees, stop it. It is 2012 now. On-line degrees are as applicable and as valuable these days as any other degree. More and more young people are doing on-line degrees because of the reduced cost.

  11. PLAY OF THE DAY

Thai Visa is actually running a forum based on the responses to Comments at Phuketwan, which only goes to show how independent journalism can eventually penetrate even the most dimly lit corners of public

He doesn't take criticism very well. He's a very sensitive chap.

  12. Agree completely. I stopped reading a while ago. The editor's comments were childish and often insulting. Seems a strange way to do business - to argue with and belittle your readers.

To be fair the website did one good story, about the Rohingya boat people. That seems a long time ago. Such a shame, Phuket would only benefit from a reasonable news source.

  13. Pathetic. The government is justifying this extortion. Now the that the tuk tuks have assured their 5 to 10x more expensive fairs than Bangkok, the mafia will be emboldened further and never allow baht buses between Kata/Karon or to run after 7pm. It is such a delight to deal with the affordable transport when I visit Krabi, Pattaya and Samui. What makes Phuket so different? To many mouths to feed on the money chain, many of which are in powerful positions. Corruption at it worst. It disgusts me. It should disgust everyone.

It does me too. I can't do much but I haven't used one for about 4 years and I tell everyone I meet never to set foot in them. Sadly there is very little else any of us can do.

  14. I guess the few of us who don't mind paying are out voted. In that case I think Thailand should raise the prices of taxi fares equal to what you pay in North America or the UK. And, jack up the cost of food by at least 5 times, and accommodation by the same amount. Then, they could lower the prices to the National parks to the same as Thais pay. Of course, the Thais would also have to have their wages increased to compensate for their living costs, and expats wouldn't be able to afford maids and servents. That should satisfy all the expats complaining about 2 tier pricing .

    Ian,

While I always appreciate your very level headed viewpoint, in this case I must respectfully disagree with everything you've said. I know you are retired, but many of us here work. We pay taxes into the system. More taxes than the Thais if truth be told. And we aren't flush with cash from a cushy Western retirement package or accumulated years of savings from overinflated Western salaries. We are trying our best to raise a Thai family in the Thai economic environment, and all we ask is that we be given the opportunity to take our families to a national park without being extorted or blackmailed for the price of admission.

We don't have maids or drivers. We work...hard. Long, exhausting hours. The system doesn't need to be changed to that of the West, as you mistakenly and unfairly quip. It is acceptable the way it is, but those of us who are already struggling to raise a family do not need additional unfair charges thrust at us when we should be receiving just the opposite. For people like yourself, who are happy to pay more, I suggest a donation box is in order.

For those of us who can find better uses for that 200 baht than giving even more to an already corrupt government, we should be allowed to use it in our own way to help our own family. Foreigners raising families over here suffer enough indignities already. It is not too much to ask that the government show an equitable policy to those of us who are paying their salaries and giving them the opportunity to fill their personal coffers with the spoils of corrupt practices.

Normally, you are the voice of reason on this site. Unfortunately, on this particular problem, your opinion is simply flawed. My family needs that 200 baht more than a corrupt government minister. You may feel differently, but then you would be wrong.

Point well made. I don't think people realise that by tolerating dual pricing they are helping some Thai people justify their unethical actions. For any foreigner trying to do work or do business here legally on an even playing field it's very frustrating to be charged more for services and products because you have a different passport. It shouldn't be accepted at any level by any foreigner that calls Thailand home. It's irresponsible.
