  1. So, be careful where you use your credit card
I'd more likely say "Be careful which bank's credit card you use"

Why use a card which does not offer you protection, when another one will?

I use a Matercard from Commonwealth Bank in Aus. I've had 3 or 4 transactions that I've disputed over the years. Each and every time it has been no hassle to have the charge re-credited to my account.

  2. Thanks for the link.

I don't really understand the tuition fee page though!!

These academic fees 25 Baht & 150 Baht Service fees mean what? Is that a per day rate, or semester rate in 1,000 bahts?

All fees are in Thai Baht.

    1. General Fees

    regular/special program for Regional Centers

    Academic fee (per credit) 25 / 80

    Service fees :

    Regular semester

    150 / 150

    Summer session

    50 / -

    Special session

    -/ 100

Also what do you think would be a reasonable allowance be for food and accomodation?

  3. Hi.

My girl's nephew is a fairly bright kid. His mother was abandoned by her husband and the kid is now looking at leaving school and heading to Bangkok to go to Uni.

The only thing is of course they have no money for him to go to Uni.

If I was to decide to sponsor him, how much do you think this should cost me? I don't mind helping out, but would like to just give a reasonable amount. Enough so that he can endure his study and living away from home, but not so much that he'll be living the high life.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

  4. I do not force my maid to work for the amount of money I pay her as she can quit the job any day she wants to, and I am sure once she can make 500 Baht more a month somewhere else, she will quit. It is then up to me to raise the price for her work if I would feel that it is worth it. The alternative is replacing her with someone else who is willing to pay for the lower salary.
This is fine if there are shortages of labour, but it preys on people during times of abudant workforce as it allows you to negotiate with nothing to lose against someone that may starve if they don't accept your "generosity".
  5. They deserve death penalty after 10 years in filthy jail as an example.

People who don't mind other people's lives do not deserve that we mind theirs.

After the he_ll thoese people in the club went through, I hope they do get these people and give them the justice they truly deserve. Death is too quick and easy.

So should the owners of this club bet executed because they blatantly disregarded the safety of their customers, or because they were unlucky enough to have a disaster occur on their turf?

Let's execute every Thai business owner that loads too many people into their club, hotel, pickup, boat, restaurant etc and execute every business owner that locks their fire exits to prevent customers from skipping out on their bills. While we are at it, let's execute all the government officials that allow the regulations to be bypassed. We'll soon have the population of Bangkok down to that of Nakon Nowhere.

  6. Its the PAD that have been pushing for the violence since the first day months ago.

They push and wait for the Government/Police to react violently. Every time that the Police do not react violently they push a little harder until they do.

Its been unfortunate that the Govt has been scared of the military stepping in, otherwise they would have wiped this mess up months ago.

Yes, it is true they have been pushing it to the limits. But I question whether their goal is bloodshed. That might be the result, but that is not the same thing as accusing them of having that as a goal. They have been pretty clear about their political goals and they don't include civil war.

I don't think that it's their goal to have bloodshed; I think that it's their means to have bloodshed to force the hand of the army.

While the army sits on the sideline, PAD has no power, they cannot expect that the government will just say one day "OK, you've protested long enough and we give up" that is never going to happen. The PAD must get the military to stage a coup for them to be successful. So far the army has resisted getting involved, so the PAD will sacrifice its followers. The leaders will be hoping for more yellow blood than any brown or red blood to try to perpetuate that myth that the PAD is a peaceful group.

Unfortunately the PAD guard will be used as cannon fodder if necessary.

  8. lol ... since the PAD does not tell people WHAT to believe ... no
    But they do, example.

Finland plot, every member of PAD (maybe except for the one's that invented the story) believe that the current goverment is directly associate with replacing the King with a Republic.

A theory with zero evidence to support it.

  9. No, the word cult is usually associated with religious/spiritually oriented groups. PAD is a political group.

In common or popular usage, "cult" has a positive connotation for groups of art, music, writing, fiction, and fashion devotees (see Cult following), but a negative connotation for new religious, extreme political, questionable therapeutic, and pyramidal business groups. For this reason, most, if not all, non-fan groups that are called cults reject this label.

  10. I firmly believe that the PAD has become a cult.

    Cult
typically refers to a cohesive social group devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding population considers to be outside the mainstream, with a notably positive or negative popular perception.

A group's cult status begins as rumors spread of its novel belief system, its great devotions, its idiosyncratic practices, its perceived harmful or beneficial effects on members or its perceived opposition to the interests of mainstream cultures and governments. Persistent rumors may follow relatively small and recently founded religious or non-religious groups when they are perceived to engage in excessive member control or exploitation.

The PAD fits this description completely.

The leaders of PAD have used the innate love for the King and dislike for Taksin within its followers as a starting point to manipulate and control the minds and actions of its members.

    What do you think?

  11. It is essential to get the prime Minister out, can't you see this?
Any normal country does this through elections. Shit even the good ol' U.S of A got rid of their bunch of idiots through an election.

The PAD are a bunch of terrorists that have no concern about who they hurt to achieve their goals.

I bet if Sondhi's main income came from the tourism industry, then the airports would not have been targeted.

  12. Setting up a will.

If I was still in my first marriage, then its a no brainer. Just leave everything to the wife and then when she dies it would pass equally to all the children.

Now being in a second marriage, if I was to leave everything to my wife when I die, when her time comes then she would just leave it all to her children and ignore my child from my first marriage.

I'm interested in learning how other members that are on their second marriage have worded their wills to take care of both current spouse and children (either step-children or blood-children), and also children from a previous marriage.

    Thanks.

  13. I visited a farm west of Brisbane on the day that they were loading a truck with fully grown birds. The farmhands would have to get close enough behind some of the less co-operative birds so it couldn't lash out with the feet then staddle from behind holding the neck near the head so as not to get bitten and then walk the birds into the truck. I think letting go was the most dangerous part.

One look at that and I decided that there's gotta be easier ways to earn a living.

  14. A bit too much of a generalisation saying Eucalyptus, there's over 700 species of Eucalyptus. Choose the wrong species for your area and it will probably just die.

A Mallee will not even grow to 10 metres in their native environment, an Australian Mountain Ash can grow to nearly 100 metres.

  15. To me the whole website looks and feels very amateurish. I think it would be much nicer (and easier for you to maintain ) if you looked at using a content management system. There are quite a few available for free download that have really good News modules either built in or supplied as add-on modules. I think the top 3 would be Xoops, Drupal and Joomla.
