  2. I posted this on the BHP thread also.

I'm 66 and filled out the registration form based on the link that someone had posted about a week and a half a half, maybe two weeks ago to received the AstraZeneca vaccine.  I went for my appointment this afternoon, scheduled between 1500 and 1600, but showed up early around 1420 and was accepted right away, no waiting.  What initially surprised me was that the first thing I was asked was if I wanted the AstraZeneca vaccine or the Pfizer vaccine so, of course, it was no brainer and I chose the Pfizer.  They asked to see the confirmation SMS which I received last night and my passport.  I was handed a questionnaire to fill out then sent to the reception desk where they assigned me a number and handed me the appointment for my second dose 3 weeks later.  On to the next station, they checked my blood pressure and off I went upstairs, 10th floor I believe, to get the jab.  Waiting time at every station was no longer than about 2 to 3 minutes.  I got the jab and off to the big conference room to be observed for 30 minutes and then I was done.  I was in and out of there well under an hour.  The staff were very professional and everything was setup to run very smoothly.  I was glad to be able to get the Pfizer vaccine.  I hope it goes this smoothly for the rest of you who have already signed up.  Thanks to whoever it was who had posted the link to BHP for the vaccine signup.

  3. I am scheduled to report to Immigration tomorrow, September 1st to show proof of maintaining 800,000 balance following my retirement extension.  Can someone tell me what I need to do prior to reporting to Immigration?  I think I had heard that you need to make a transaction, deposit/withdrawal and update your bank book prior and I assume that they will need photocopies of some pages as they tend to be photocopy crazy at Immigration.

Also, I renewed my Retirement Extension on June 5th, but my scheduled report date to Immigration is September 1st, less than 90 days/3 months.  Will I be able to begin withdrawal below 800,000 after my Immigration visit or do I need to wait almost another week to insure that I have completed a full 3 months?

    Thanks

  4. I went to Nong Nooch Garden yesterday with my wife and her granddaughter.  Same experience, was told I had to pay B350 even after showing them the advertisement for free entrance even for expats, no explanation at all, just have to pay B350.  I'm not impressed with Nong Nooch Garden, once you've seen it for the first time.  The only reason I went was because I thought I wouldn't have to pay.  And I agree, it's not so much the money as it is the principle.

Also, in the past it had only cost me B200.  They told my wife that they had raised the prices as of June 10th so I guess after June 30th, many, even Thai's are in for a surprise.

  5. In Thailand, the year of the car is based on the date of manufacture; this is how it will appear in your Green book.  If you want to buy a car that will be registered as a 2020, it must be manufactured in 2020.  You could decline this car and opt for another if you're not in a hurry as there might be a waiting list.

  6. Nice to hear that your Tricity has held up very well.  Yeah, the Tricity 300 would be great to have, but will they sell it in Thailand as they never actually offered the 155 here.  The Tricity 300 looks like a cross between the original Tricity 125 and the XMAX.  The frame is similar to the XMAX, not the flat floor design open design of the original Tricity.  I do like the 14 inch tires all around versus the 12 inch rear tire on the Tricity 125.  I also like the tilt lock system of the Tricity 300 that allows for stops without putting your feet down.  The downside is it's weight at 239 kilos which should make it a little slower than the XMAX and at least in Europe, it is also more expensive than the XMAX, but I don't know by how much.  Overall, I would be interested in checking one out if Thailand Yamaha offers it for sale in Thailand.

Thanks for providing your experience of the Yamaha Tricity.

  7. I wonder if the 155cc models were only available in the Bangkok area.  I would like to find a 155cc ABS model in good shape, but I've never seen one for sale.  I'd like to see Yamaha begin selling them in Thailand again, but I doubt it.  Being that they were not sold officially in Thailand, did you have to pay a premium to purchase a new one?

I bought a Honda CBR150 to ride around, but as you say, there is no storage to let's say, make a beer run or a visit to Tops, Big C or Lotus.  Also, with a scooter, it's ok to put a top box on it; just doesn't look right on a G310GS or a CBR150.

  8. That's interesting.  I had seen websites indicating that the 155 model was coming soon with expected prices, but never an actual listing for sale.  I was under the impression that the 125 models initially sold in 2014/2015 then sales in Thailand were halted due to poor sells.  I believe the 155 model came out in 2007, but like you said, never officially sold in Thailand.  The 155 and now 300 model are big sellers in Europe from what I understand.  I've seen YouTube videos of the 300; it's really nice, but too big and heavy for my use.  I would like to see them reintroduce the Tricity 155 ABS model to Thailand.  I believe, if it would have come originally with the 155 engine, it would have been a much better seller.

My guess is that most of the Tricity's in Thailand are around 5 years old now and maybe not too many still in circulation since your reply was the only response that I have received.

  9. I recently had read through a 32 page thread beginning in 2014 when the Tricity was first introduced and ending in 2016.  I had heard rumors that the Tricity was to be reintroduced with the Aerox 155 engine update which is currently selling in Europe, would be introduced at the Bangkok show this month, but talking to a sales person at Yamaha yesterday, I was told, not going to sell in Thailand.  Of course, these rumors were flying around back in 2016 also.  In Europe, I've seen youtube videos of the impending Tricity 300.  I guess the sales of the original Tricity 125 in Thailand must have been dismal for Yamaha to give up the model altogether.  I think that an updated 155 model would sell, but not in the large numbers of the Aerox and NMax.

For those who bought the Tricity 125's, does anyone still own their Tricity 125 and if so, could you provide some information as to the durability and reliability of this model?  How well has the front suspension and 2-wheel steering system held up?  I suspect that it would be difficult to find the parts and if taken to a Yamaha Service Center, to have it repaired.  How many kilos have you put on your Tricity 125?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

  10. I saw this advertised at PJ Trading; it looked nice, has low mileage and the price, not too bad although it has a gear shift indicator which you don't care for (lol).  I was thinking of checking it out, but I'm leaning to moving up to at least a 300.  Presently, I'm still enjoying my 2013 CBR 150R, first of the fuel injected CBR 150's with only light to moderate vibration.  I think Honda modified the CB to produce slightly less horsepower, but boosting the torque slightly.

  11. I've always used the car wash called Hollywood Call Care Center that was located on the east side of the Railroad Track bypass just south of Siam Country Club Road, but when I went there a few days ago to get my truck washed, it was gone lock, stock and barrel.  Does anybody know if maybe it has moved to another location?  If not, could you recommend another car wash of similar type in the vicinity?

    Thanks

So ... you are thinking of buying a bike you have never seen, never sat on, never rode ...

Based on the experiences of others ...

    This gotta turn out well

No, I'm just soliciting opinions of this bike before taking a look at it, what's wrong with that?  I'm not buying the thing sight unseen; I'm looking to check it out, may like it, may not, but it never hurts to be loaded with as much knowledge as possible ahead of time.  I have read most of the reviews on the internet and watched numerous YouTube videos, but what I was looking for on this forum was some first hand knowledge and opinion of this bike although first hand knowledge appears to be non-existent, hey, took a chance.

  13. Some very good points made here, some of which I have already considered.  I haven't done a test ride yet, supposed to do that in the next few days, but wanted to get some opinions from other bikers beforehand.  I too, may find it to be too big and heavy, never seen one in person, but like the idea of having the extra power available from the 638cc parallel twin engine.  I guess it is kind of a turnaround for me.  I had given up my big bikes some time ago and currently riding a Honda CBR150, but looking to move away from the hunched over riding position and the constant shifting between 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear to keep the engine in the power band while maneuvering through Pattaya traffic.  Now, here I am thinking about more power once again (lol).  I've never owned a scooter, but feel that it is more comfortable and practical in my current riding environment, but I want to get something a little bigger and with more power than the standard scooters that I see running around.  The 300 to 400 cc models seem to be the sweet spot.

I have been following sales ads for both the X-Max and Forza's, even the older models, but haven't come across one that has aroused my interest as yet.  I was leaning towards the X-Max over the Forza, but after sitting on the X-Max, I was surprised by the seat height being much higher than the old Forza's which has a lower seat and sits more comfortable.  I haven't seen the new Forza in person yet.

Once I see this Burgman, I may go wow, this thing is huge and overweight and move on to something more practical, but like I said, it was my goal here to gain some valuable insight from knowledgeable bikers such as yourselves.

    Thanks

  14. Considering purchasing a used Suzuki Burgman 650 and looking for some knowledgeable input from bikers with experience with this model.  Would this bike be a good match for combined city and highway driving in Thailand?  I looked at a new Burgman 650 at Big Bike Suzuki in Pattaya and found that it is a huge bike as far as scooters are concerned.  I've been recently keeping an eye out for a used Honda Forza 300 or Yamaha XMax 300, but haven't found one that i liked to date.  Size wise, the Honda and Yamaha would probably be more usable as an all around bike.  Suzuki told me that they will be offering the Burgman 400 in the near future; it was announced at the recent bike show in Bangkok, might be an alternative albeit expensive as a new bike purchase.

Are there local shops around Pattaya where a Burgman 650 can be serviced and repaired or must it be taken to Big Bike Suzuki for service?  Being a Japanese import, I suspect that both service and parts are very expensive, much more so than say Big Wing Honda.

Anyway, I would like to read your input and suggestions.

    Thanks,

    David

To determine if your transfer was in IAT format give Bkk Bk a call in Bangkok....they can tell you within a few minutes. See this earlier 6 April post.

I called Bangkok Bank today and they confirmed that my transfer was made using standard domestic ACH and not IAT.  She could not confirm as to whether September 16th was the final cutoff; that is up to Bangkok Bank New York.  She said that it could continue through the rest of the year, but she hasn't heard anything one way or another.
