  1. I'm planning a flight in February to the United States to attend my daughter's wedding.  In the past, I've always booked my flights from travel agencies in Bangkok.  Does anyone know of a travel agency (name and location) in Pattaya that they have used frequently, have received fair prices and are generally happy with the service they provided?

    Thanks,

    Pattayadavid

  2. The New Bangkok airport has long term parking, but there is no shade at all. For some reason they don't have those poles with netting that seems to be used just about everywhere to protect your car from the sun.

If I were to park my Toyota Vigo there each time I go to the UK for 2 weeks, would the sun damage it. As I write this I think I am being a bit too 'protective' of a pick up truck, but still I like to look after things if I can and the saving on parking fees for the covered short term parking over 2 weeks is only about 2000 baht!

I don't think two weeks in the sun will cause any immediate damage to your vehicle, but could reduce the effect of the protective UV properties in today's clear coat paint over the extended life of your vehicle.  Put a good coat of UV protectant polish on your vehicle periodically and I think you will be fine.

Changing the subject for a moment, how much does it cost per day for the long-term parking in the sun?  in the shade?  I'm going to Koh Samui for 4 or 5 days and was thinking about leaving my vehicle at the airport during my absence.

  3. I've been trying to locate a restaurant that grills a good steak over actual charcoal brickets versus the usual cooked on a metal plate. I long for the taste that the charcoal brickets impart on the meat. Yeah, I can do it myself and I do on occasion, but I could like to find a good restaurant that cooks steaks in this manner.

I've passed by El Toro's on second road many times, but have yet to give it a try. Has anyone eaten at El Toro's? Any great steak restaurants which charcoal grill their steaks?

    Thanks,

    Pattayadavid

  4. One of the new flyovers has now been opened and some parts of the additional lanes on the way to Bangkok making the journey less tiresome.

On the way back there's no diversion and u-turn at Ping Thong any more.

It's less hassle than going along the 3 with all the traffic lights and the congestion at Sri Racha and that market before Bang Saen.

Thanks, I believe I will go ahead and take Motorway 7.  I'm glad to see that there has been some improvement since I last travelled this road back in August or early September.  A friend of mine left Pattaya for Bangkok this past Friday driving up Highway 3 then taking Highway 315 over to the motorway.  He said that he saved 20 to 30 minutes over taking the motorway.  I'm not sure what time he left Pattaya; maybe early morning or at night would carry lighter traffic and save some time.  Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and take the motorway, thanks for your input.

  5. Will the Vista SP1 Service Pack download automatically in Windows Update or do I have to visit the Microsoft site? The Microsoft Office 2007 SP1 automatically updated back on December 13th. Also, has anyone had any difficulty getting Vista Update K942763 to install? The update fails to install each time I have tried.

    Update for Windows Vista (KB942763)

Update type: Important! Installing this update enables your computer to automatically adjust the computer clock on the correct date in 2007 and 2008 due to revised Daylight Saving Time laws in many countries. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

  6. sorry to jump back into the thread I started, but I was also told that there was no English version of the owners hand book available in Thailand. I now find that this maybe a bit far from the actual. Anyone know where I can find one?

    Hi Aussieladdy

Toyota definitely produce a owners handbook in Engrish. Ive met at least two people who said they have them and going back some time on TV, I'm sure someone even quoted a Toyota part number for one. Iv also seen ads on the Interweb selling them in CD format. Sorry I cannot be more specific, but I think its a case of you trying to find a salesperson with more braincells than a goldfish

    Good Luck :o

    Dave

Toyota does indeed publish an owners manual in English, at least they do for the Vigo trucks, however they are not published with the intent of satisfying us English speaking customers.  They are published for their export models; this is why they don't generally have them in stock at the dealership and have to order one from Toyota at the time of purchase.  I had mine included in the purchase price of the truck, otherwise they will charge you for the English manual.  It took almost 3 months for my manual to arrive primarily because the one ordered in my name had been given to someone else.  Someone had signed for it next to my name so the dealership thought I had already received it, however they were surprised and apologetic when I inquired as to it's whereabouts and promptly ordered me a new one which arrived in about two weeks.

  7. Its every 7 years that you will need to check. The owner of the car will be notified. It used to be 10 years, somehow its now 7 years. Not sure what they check. Emission for sure, rest from your list I cant answer

Are you sure that it is every 7 years?  It was my understanding that an inspection was required at 7 years then every year thereafter due to the age of the vehicle.

  8. exit in banbueng (in sukhumvit road, turn right at the traffic light if you are coming from pattaya) and go directly to the motorway but it has to be at night when traffic in chonburi is less.

I have a hospital appointment in Bangkok next Thursday and will have to leave Pattaya between 6:00 AM and 6:30 AM to make my appointment.  I should finish up around mid afternoon.  I guess I will probably take my usual routing going to Bangkok, but I may try the banbueng exit coming back.  How is this exit marked when driving south out of Bangkok?  Does it have a road number?

    Thanks

  9. I don't travel to Bangkok very much these days, but I know that there are those who make this trip frequently.  I generally take Sukcumvit north to highway 36 then eastward over to the expressway.  A friend of mine told me last night that he drives nort

h on highway 3 to the Chonburi bypass then exits to join

highway 7 expressway avoiding the major construction.  He couldn't remember exactly which exits he used to avoid the highway 7 construction either going to or coming from Bangkok.  I would like to hear your recommendations as to the most efficient or best way to transit, under the present road construction effort, to and from Bangkok from Pattaya.

    Thanks,

  10. [quotLots of people make mistakes with auto trans fluid readings, firstly, it has to checked on a warm engine, you have to run it through the gears a few times, then put it in park and with the engine running check the dipstick,.just keep your eye on the level but ill bet it wasnt topped up originally, autos do not use oil, they can leak but they do not use it,.e name=mikethevigoman' date='2007-12-10 22:37:43' post='1698765]

It's interesting, I had a look through my Vigo owner's manual a few weeks ago and there is no mention at all of how to check the transmission fluid level.  It doesn't even display a diagram of where the dipstick is located.  However, I agree with Mike as to the proper procedure for checking transmission fluid levels.

  11. Can you really get Bt2000 worth of fuel into your car ? Impractical to get more than about Bt1600 for me.

Maybe not yet, but don't count it out in the future (lol).  It's not too many years ago that you might have said the same thing of Bt1000.

  12. Thanks for your opinion, Mike.

Well, I kind of like the Navara, though before I had a look at it I was quite sure, that my next vehicle wasn´t going to be a pickup.

I might look for a opportunity to rent a Navara a few days in order to test the comfort properly.

    North

    Hi Andy,

Did you get rid of your Vigo Exclusive?  I remember when you bought as I bought mine shortly thereafter.  You appeared at the time to be very happy with it.  I still like mine even though I wish it had a slightly smoother ride.  I don't drive it all that much, mostly back and forth between Pattaya and Roi-et when the wife and I visit the inlaws.  As far as seat comfort, I have no complaints.  The drive to Roi-et takes between 7 and 8 hours; I still feel good, no aches or pains after completing the drive.

I must admit that the truck is a bit big for driving around Pattaya.  I have a 2001 Honda Crv that is absolutely perfert for driving around the narrow Soi's of Pattata and for parking.

The Navara didn't show up in Pattaya until after I had already ordered my Vigo Exclusive, the 4-door, 4-wheel drives much later, but from what I saw of them, I thought that both the in

teriors and exteriors looked rather plain.  I would think

that Nissan would have done much better to design a new truck that took the best of the Vigo/Isuzu appointments and meshed them with the Triton style to come up with some with nice looks, but maybe not so radical as the Triton.  Instead, the Nissan is a rather bland looking truck in my opinion.

  13. Bob has opened another Bar-B-Que place at Soi LK Metro (Off of Soi Bua Khao) nearby to ''The Rock House'', 'Lolitas'' and ''The hel_l Club''. Guess he will have more passing trade now.. But parking a truck/car nearby is still a pain...

My wife and I went to Bob's Barbeque Friday night and it was great. The restaurant is setup almost identical as the original Pattaya Tai restaurant except that the bar doesn't go quite as far back and that there are no tables upstairs. I ordered the large smoked baby back rib meal, should have ordered the small or medium because it was huge. I must have gotten the pig's entire rib cage, two racks of ribs about one foot long stacked on top of another with a large baked potato, corn on the cob, salad, etc. I don't remember ever getting such a large plate of thick juicy ribs. The difference I find between Bob's ribs and those from The Great American Rib Company is that Bob's ribs are so much more thick, meaty and juicy than the extremely dry and tough ribs I experience at The Great American Rib Company. It is not my intention here to put down the Great American Rib Company, Bob has actually eaten there himself and said that they do serve some good dishes, but I was in the mood for ribs and I feel that Bob does them best.

I had mentioned this thread to Bob and the concerns about parking and that he should go to the thread and address this issue. In the mean time, I will pass on what Bob had told me. Bob told me that there is ample parking; you have to turn into the alleyway located between Soi LK Metro and the Metropole Hotel. It runs to the left of the Metropole Hotel underground parking entrance and parallels Soi LK Metro. Bob said

that you can park directly across from his restaurant in this alleyway. Sometimes there is a parking attendant who will charge 20 baht for parking and other times he is not present and you can park for free.

Anyway, I just wanted to pass on my experience at Bob Barbeque. I highly recommend Bob's Barbeque to one and all.

  14. How about easing up on your rhetoric criticizing the United States of America?

How about not? Weho is very funny. Lighten up. Both Weho and I are patriotic citizens of the isolated principality of Amerigay, thank you very much.

I may not always agree with Weho, but I will defend to the small flesh wound his right to complain about oyster sauce on rice.

    post-37101-1197094349_thumb.jpg

Jingthing, I really don't have any problem with anyone poking fun or complaining about certain aspects of our country, however I don't think it's too much to ask people to at least get the name right. Negatively bias terms like “the minor nation of U.S. and A.” just detract attention away from the topic at hand, offend some of us and only invites further negative feedback in response, don't you agree? Think about it, what does the using of terms such as "the minor nation of U.S. and A. , which explicitly represents a negative opinion of our country, have to do with the topic, vertical chicken rotisserie electric cookers?

Weho, could you just stick to the subject of the thread; hel_l, you started this thread, without interjecting offensive rhetoric?

I’m glad to hear that both you and Weho claim to be patriots, even though I didn’t actually hear it from Weho. A term used in everyone of Weho’s recent posting such as “the minor nation of U.S. and A.” in my opinion doesn’t illustrate that of a patriot regardless of whether he is a patriot or not. By the way, I’m not questioning Weho’s patriotism, only his choice of rhetoric?

  15.

A friend had one in the minor nation of U.S. and A

Weho, what's with the constant bashing of the United States of America BS? Please enlighten us of your experiences while either living or visiting this country. You list your home as Pattaya; have you even set foot in the U.S.A.? Also, if you liked the movie "SICKO" then you are either a flaming liberal or just plain ignorant of their agenda and the likes of Michael Moore.

How about easing up on your rhetoric criticizing the United States of America?

  16. After reading this thread yesterday then Wanda Sloan's article on the Comodo 3 Pro Firewall, I uninstalled my Zone Alarm Basic Firewall and installed Comodo 3. I run Vista Ultimate on my computer. Before uninstalling my Zone Alarm Firewall, I ran the "ShieldsUp" test found at www.grc.com as recommended by Wanda Sloan to check for vulnerable ports to threats. The test found 3 open ports, all other ports closed and no stealth ports. After loading Comodo 3 Pro, I ran the test again and received the exact same results. Below is the results of my test. My question to you, how do I access and correct these port vulnerabilities? I don't have a clue and Wanda Sloan failed to address this issue in her article, thanks.

Port 21 FTP OPEN! FTP servers have many known security vulnerabilities and the payoff from exploiting an insecure FTP server can be significant. This system's open FTP port is inviting intruders to examine your system more closely.

Port 23 TELNET OPEN! Telnet provides a remote command prompt window which allows remote systems to be configured and controlled. Any system that appears to be offering a Telnet connection — like yours is right now — is offering the potential for total command-level access. Since a surprising number of Telnet servers are known to have no password, this open Telnet port will be attracting a LOT of the wrong kind of attention. If your network contains a residential NAT or DSL router, it may be that its "WAN-side" management interface is open and accepting connections. No matter what the cause, you should immediately attend to this open Telnet port.

Port 80 HTTP OPEN! The web is so insecure these days that new security "exploits" are being discovered almost daily. There are many known problems with Microsoft's Personal Web Server (PWS) and its Frontpage Extensions that many people run on their personal machines. So having port 80 "open" as it is here causes intruders to wonder how much information you might be willing to give away.

  17. Sign up for Google Gmail, it's more reliable and has much better SPAM protection. Also, you can set it up as a POP3 account in either Outlook or Outlook Express if you desire. Do a Google search and sign up.

sorry but I think u did not read my post properly. I did not ask "can anybody recommend alternatives to hotmail". I asked a specific question about HOTMAIL and still hope somebody is able to give me a hint.

    Thank you

If you didn't like my response, why didn't you just ignore it; I was only trying to help.  I read your post quite clearly, but since I had no solution for your hotmail problem, I thought I would offer you a much better alternative to Hotmail.  Some people don't realize that you can setup a POP3 account with Gmail.  Gmail has a much faster and reliable download and a much better SPAM screener, I should know because I have 3 Hotmail accounts and 2 Gmail accounts.  I only keep the Hotmail accounts because some of my friends and business interests can't seem to take the hint and send correspondence to my Gmail address.

Anyway, if you like Hotmail so much then bite the bullet and download the Windows Live, however I still think that Hotmail is crap.

  18. I own a Humax Satellite Receiver with built-in 160GB hard drive.  I use it quite extensively to record programs off UBC especially late night, early morning sports events, however I also have the local Banglamung cable system in my home.  At present, I am using a VCR to record off the Banglamung cable TV.  Is there any way that I can feed the Banglamung cable coaxial feed in addition to my UBC coaxial feed into my Humax Satellite Receiver so that I may use only one unit for recording and viewing?

    Thanks,

    Pattayadavid

  19. Is that ok with you.

Totally, but just reminding people that many people love some of their menu, and I would like to see them do good business as I think they deserve it. Any business that provides stuff that some people love at a fair price and employs local people has got to be a good thing, except for the Thai pig community.

Ok, I haven't tried everything on the menu, they do make good Pecan pie, however they call themselves "Great American Rib Restaurant" and the ribs just don't live up to the name.

  20. I have to agree with Plasticpig on this one. The last time I took the wife there, the ribs were so tough and dry that the wife and I looked at each other and said let's go. We had the remainder boxed up to take home to the dogs. We immediately drove over to Bob's and had a proper rib meal.

I also won't ever go there again after the incident whereby Mikethenavaroman was extorted for money by one of the female staff members over a minor accident in the parking lot.
