  1. There is one shop (chemists) opposite the old bus station, which sells Lavendel oil. Very small and quite expensive bottle. I bought mine over a year ago so I can't give better instructions, but that shop should be easy to find.

  2. I seem to remember stopping my motorcycle on that road one day to say hello to a nice guy building a roadside shop there. I keep

meaning to stop by but I always seem to be in a hurry when I pass through there, which is often. Just yesterday I think I saw him out front

with another farang friend and the missus I presume. Perhaps you know this individual. :)

Hi VF ! I've recognized you in a couple of times afterwards when you've passed "my place" . I heard that you were visited yesterday,

but unfortunately we were in Mae Sai, I had my 90-days reporting and my wife had her shopping day :hit-the-fan::lol:.

This farang friend was one swedish friend who's visiting here in the village (his wifes home village).

  3. Thx Puuma but Google DNS (8.8.8.8) is much faster dan Open dns . Dit a DNS speed test and google is the fastest in Chiang Rai .
Oops, It seems that you are well aware of the DNS issues and thanks for the tip of Google Public DNS.

I did a namebench and got following results; Recommended configuration (fastest + nearest). Primary Server for me was Google Public DNS-2 (8.8.4.4), but what is surprising me is result for nearest/ secondary server TOT-3 TH (203.113.5.133).

Open DNS was a bid after ! G P DNS / 8.8.8.8 was recommended like a backup DNS server for my system.

I have changed G P DNS-2 to one of my computer and will test that for a while.

Probably you already know that there is also one way to improving website performance with Page Speed. Page Speed is an open-source Firefox Add-on, for more information go to: code.google.com/speed (I assume that we all use firefox browser, because of Add-on "Increase Thai Text Size" :) ).

  4. Can anybody translate this text please?

If you can't, which would be quite understandable, you always could guess where in Chiang Rai you can find this object.

To make it easier I added another picture.

Ban Terd Thai (Hin Taek) in Khun Sa Museum !

  5. Take from highway (nr1) to Prasop suk road and next shop after mr.Machineman (same side),

there I found mine about 1 year ago.

If they don't have, there are 2 more shops on the same road just before the highway.

    Good luck !

PS. I have seen another as well in Mae Sai, just a little after Immigration (same side of the road).

  6. Anyone come across a decent map of chiang Rai province. Something similar to a UK Ordanance survey 1 in 50 map would be ideal, although I don't expect to find it.

Does anyone have anything close out there.

doing a bit of exploring on the motorbike and my screens too small to do google earth much justice.

Arh, if you're looking for a map for motorcyclists then check out the new GT Rider Golden Triangle map. Look in St Motorcycle Rent, Orn Books or Nai In Books for copies. ST has plastic ones.

For the 1:50 thou maps of the top north, you will need about 6 to cover the area roughly from the Kok River north & most of these are not available to the general public.

I bought GT Rider Golden Triangle map and I think it's one of the best ever made Chiang Rai province map !

For example I haven't found The Golden Horse Temple (Wat Tham Pa Are Cha Tong) from any other map before but GT Rider map have that (Mae Kham).
