  1. The way Thais are with telephones, with not being able to even ride a motorcycle without having a phone stuck to their ear, I suggest they shut down the chat room and ..........

MAKE this UNUSED capacity FOR ADLS

    Maybe that will ease up a lot of the problems on the ADS end [all over Thailand}

Prey tell what ADLS is, I have googled it and can only find the following :--

ADLS (ADVANCED LIFE SCIENCES HOLDINGS, INC. )

The Association of Dunkirk Little Ships

    Auckland District Law Society

I cannot figure out what this has to do with Thai Telecomunnications and chat lines.

    :o

  3. CroftRobin,

Thanks for the reply, I currently use Skype Out to call Thailand mobiles and landlines from the UK and it is actually better for us than using the local telephone suppliers..... I just home things do not go downhill with them now ebay have bought them.....

The VOIP I was thinking of using would be VPN'd over the Sat to my office in the UK, I have a VOIP handset but it has to VPN'd to the switch inside my office LAN, I have read on here that there are issues with VPNing over sat, is that really the case ? I just wonder if trying to VOIP over VPN is just a step too far for SatDSL...

Vonage BTW now have a .co.uk website and you can choose numbers from pratically any major town in the UK, however it is no-where as cheap as Skype, they do however have a call redirection to another number service if they cannot get you on VOIP which is useful, and may well be the way too go for me if VOIP over VPN is not possible with SatDSL

    Cheers

    mike

  4. Just how bad is VOIP over satellite ?

I am looking to relocate to Thailand but will need to get Sat (no adsl in my area) in order to work, and would be easier to convince my business partners if I could get a VOIP phone connected and could still work as if I am in the office in the UK ?

    Cheers

  5. There's NO such thing as a malaria vaccine.

He probably said/meant that they could give a malaria prophylaxis, or that malaria could be effectively treated once someone was ill.

It was probably another case of poor translation and lamentable use of English such as the Pattaya Mail's recent reference to "soar throats" and "penile servitude."

I have no doubt that the doctor knows what he’s talking about...in Thai.

Rather than criticize what he was reported as saying in a dubious English translation, why not read the original Thai text of what was said? …assuming your apparent expertise in all things extends to understanding the language of the country in which you reside.

Of course, it's a whole lot easier to play pseudo-colonial disdainer of all you survey.

    Ho Ho :D:D

Actually US army do have a malaria vaccine, it's not all that good though as it involves being bitten by 1000 irradiated infected mosquitos to give you a enough of a dose of malaria parasites, that are errectively immobilised by the radiation.... oh and it only works for 9 months.... GlaxoSmithCline are also trialing a vaccine but it is not 100% effective at stopping Malaria, but is very effective at reducing the mortality rate, and the speed of death of those infected.

What the doctor was maybe talking about was Artemisinin based cures to Malaria, along with the Bill Gates funded Institute for OneWorld Health's OZ277 artifical Artemisinin based cures, both of which are proven to cure the majority of cases of Malaria.

Why make a post on a subject you obviously don't know the facts about yourself ? :o

To help you being more factual iin your posts in future please on this subject have a quick look at this link and then maybe use T'internet to research the subject before opening you big fat condecending trap....

  7. :o THERE IS ANOTHER OPTION,,FOR 7900BT YOU CAN BUY A GPRS MODEM FROM TELEWIS CALLED SOLOMON WHICH REQUIRES NO LAND LINE AND WORKS VERY WELL THE GREAT PART IS YOU CAN TAKE IT WITH YOU ANYWHERE. I HAVE USED THE SOLOMON FOR APPROX. 6 MONTHS NOW MAINLY DUE TO THE LOCATION WHERE I LIVE GETTING A PHONE IS OUT OF THE QUESTION AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH INTERNET. THE AIS INTERNET CARD RUNS APPROX. 900BT A MONTH FOR 450 HOURS OF TIME

The Problem with GPRS is that sometimes the signal strength is poor so you HAVE TO SHOUT TO BE HEARD ! :D:D:D

  8. How about this one then,

Was over in Surin 2 weeks ago and went to see my branch of Bangkok Bank where I opened an account last year (no work permit required just passport)

When I set up the account last year THEY did not even know their SWIFT code so I could not actually send any money over to the account, so it has just been sat there whilst I have been back in the UK with the ammount I opened the account with.

Well this time they did have the SWIFT code, but what I wanted to do was to setup internet bangkok access to the account so if I send money to the account I can see that it gets there, also so I can check balance and pay any bills.....

Well, first off the manager said Bangkok Bank did not have internet banking..... <deleted> !? I said you do cos it says you have to visit branch to set it up.... so he called HQ...... and hour later he comes back and says that they do indeed have internet banking, but has I do not have a work permit I cannot have access to Internet Banking.....

I asked if he was talking out of his arse, so he called and checked with HQ again, taking another 30 mins, and he confirmed he was right..... my wife created access to her account (opened the same day as mine!) I closed my account and off I went, will open an account elsewhere where the beaurocracy has not gone totally mad.....

I can understand to a certain extent the argument of True, but why the ###### would a bank not let you view your bank account over the internet if you do not have a Work Permit ???

    Mike

  9. by the way, they don't have all the technology(bandwidth) needed to setup such a "big brother" .. another show off :D

Are you quite sure about that Monsiour?

The government is doing a pretty good job of blocking certain websites already... :o

yep i just saw 2bangkok.com is blocked already :D

    Any idea why Darky?

No ? but the message says it's blocked by the authority of thailand internet policy thing or something :D

Hope this doesn't happen to us :D

sometime ago i tried to enter one site with some cheap entertaining value and it took me straight to the royal thai police site :D:D:D Ever happend to you?

It's actually very easy for Thailand to block access to certain sites and requires no bandwidth at all, especially if they control top level DNS servers etc.... and in terms of actually scanning the content of websites external to Thailand for text that they would want to block or type of site this is possible..... and the user or site owner need not even know that it is monitored/blocked.

  10. If she did manage to get the passport without you marrying her then surely there would be no way she would get a visa to visit your country unless you married her anyway ?

I am pretty sure that once they found out about the visa overstay (and illigal working - if she was working) in Japan your embassy would also insist on marriage before a visa was issued.

  11. On BBC news now

Thailand's Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra says his £60m bid for a 30% stake in Liverpool has been accepted.

Thaksin says both sides have agreed on 60% of the deal, which is to be funded by a one-off state lottery, but warned he would still look at other clubs.

"In principle they agreed and now we are working on details," said Thaksin.

"I hope we have no problems but if we cannot agree with Liverpool we have alternatives. By the end of June, we'll own a stake in a Premiership club."

It seems, however, that the deal is likely to go through in the next few days.

"Now 60% is comfortable, and there's still another 40% that we still have to discuss before we agree," said Thaksin. "In principle there shouldn't be any problem.

We submitted the MOU (memorandum of understanding) to them and they countered with their draft to us and then we have to have further negotiation.

    "Things should conclude this week."

Spokesman Santiparb Tejavanija earlier said: "I'm flying to Liverpool tonight. Our proposal has been approved."

Thailand's cabinet approved a plan to set up a new company to manage the Liverpool investment on Tuesday.

The plan is to raise £140m through a state lottery, with the proceeds paying for the Liverpool deal and "long-term sports development" in the south-east Asian country.

Thai officials say the new company will be 60% owned by the government and financed with lottery funds.

The remaining 40% will be owned by the public, who will own shares through the purchase of the lottery tickets, said Somchainuk Engtrakul, a senior official at the Finance Ministry.

The Liverpool board had to choose between Thaksin's offer and building tycoon and lifelong fan Steve Morgan's rival £73m bid.

Morgan had aimed to raise £61m with a rights issue and £12m through a share issue, but directors branded the plan "unattractive" after a board meeting on Thursday.

The Anfield board claimed his offer did not represent the true value of the club.

Liverpool are 51% owned by David Moores, whose family has had control for half a century, and 9.9% owned by television company Granada.

Thaksin, a billionaire telecoms tycoon before he turned to politics, has said he wants to promote Thai football and employ Liverpool coaches to lift the lacklustre national game up to international standards.

  12. It's sounds to me that you need to get the priorities right, take care of your own kids, speak to the Phu Yai Bahn and seek his assistance in protecting your kids home, and stop worrying about loosing face or money.

The family are only trying to care of themselves, which, like it or not you cannot really blame them. If you expect them to look after your kids then what the <deleted>*k do you expect ??

Do your wifes family and your kids a favour and take care of your own kids

  13. I regularly transfer money from the UK to LOS.

Always get better rate if I specify all charges come from my UK account and the money is sent in UK£ for transfer by the Thai bank on arrival.

Guess you should do the same, but I would check the exchange rates on your Thai banks website, and compare it too what your Oz bank will give you, always found the Thai bank to beat UK banks though !

    Cheers

    Mike

  14. VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol.

It's a common method used to truncate/compress multiple telephone calls down to the same bandwidth used by 1 single line, and then push it over the internet..... this is how most of the cheap calling cards can charge such little money for their calling cards....

It is also when the call quality is not normally as good as a regular telephone company, as you are sharing that one line with 5 or 10 or 20 telephone calls.

Is that non techie enough for you ?

    Cheers

    Mike
