  1. I was living in Pattaya about 25 years ago and bought a new car from Chon Buri, i had to go back there for its first service.

It was a hot day and i left off my shirt after collecting my car after servicing.

I drove away and made a u turn to go back home, 300 yards up the road and a cop waved me down he said i never stopped

at the u turn driving straight out, i said because there was no vehicles in sight, he said 500 baht so i got out and only had 1000

do you have change i asked, he smiled and said no, then he said you are a big guy which is true, so after a bit of banter i challenged

him to an arm wrestle for 1000 or nothing, he said he would call his boss to take me on.

After sizing me up he accepted took of his tunic and we adopted the usual position, at this time i realized i had made a big mistake.

If i beat which i was sure i could might he shoot me for losing face to his lower ranked assistant, i worried for a few moments then felt him

push so nature took over and i easily pressed him down.

Both him and his colleague were laughing and very friendly, for my part i was trying emphasize how strong he was, anyway i kept my money

    and waved good bye.

  2. What a load of crap some uneducated idiots on here profess to know about who should have a life.

My son is almost nine he is the center of my life, i love him beyond the value of my own life.

He is loved within our family and has many friends in and out of school.

Who the hell are these brain dead idiots who state his life should have been discouraged.

I spend most of my time with him teaching him safety and the basic core values of living a life full of

enjoyment, respect of others and a continuous education to enhance his knowledge.

He could not have a better chance to blossom into a young man that wlll credit the human race.

I am 74 with as good a chance of being around for the next 10--12 years as any other guy.

By then he will be a man, so all you idiots with an opinion to the contrary......SOD OFF

  3. Thai builders will fit door& window frames by hammering the adjacent re-bar through both stiles and filling up the damaged frame.

They should be drilled plugged and screwed in place with 4 inch screws, 5 down each stile or vertical door frame, same with windows if they are wood.

The lot should be pumped with termite repellent before construction.

Most builders use a small drainage pipe, 1/2---3/4 inch for sinks and wash basins, upgrade to at least 2 inch.

Do not be tempted into fitted furniture, its mostly crap, buy loose then you can see the quality.

YOU NEED TO BE ON SITE IF YOU WANT THE HOUSE BUILT TO YOUR SPECS..................IT WILL NOT GET DONE AS YOU INSTRUCT IF YOUR NOT THERE WATCHING.

I have built four houses here in my 25 years.

  4. Think very carefully about Pattaya for a family holiday.

Its not a place for a family holiday with thousands of prostitutes in hundreds of bars and hotels.

Beaches and swimming is not safe or clean with many vendors approaching all day selling almost everything.

Noisy everywhere with violence sometimes with guns often reported.

They drive like maniacs with no footpaths to walk on.

I lived there for 13 years {because it took 8 years to sell my house} so my opinion is based on experience.

Far better to go to Klaeng about 30 kilometres beyond Rayong, beautiful beaches, seafood restaurants, safe

on the roads with no prostitutes touting for business.

With a car you can easily have a trip in to Pattaya to the many places to visit.

But its not a place to stay with a family on holiday.

I now live in Chiang Mai.

Read the news on Pattaya by searching thaivisa.com

Good luck where ever you go

  5. My wife is a Thai national and wishes to open a business offering marketing advice to businesses.

She anticipates the need to employ 3 to 4 Thais in due course and is considering a premises nearby to operate from.

Does she need to register this business even though it will not be a limited company.

  6. I went to a Chiropractor Monday this week in Chiang Mai, i had twisted my frame and my hip joints were misaligned, very very painful.

This Chiropractor is also a specialist in muscle thereapy, i almost crawled into his office and 15 minutes later i could do anything.

Highly reccommend this Thai guy dont know his name but his office is by the side of the Manenarakom Hotel Changklan phone 081 4969143 or 082 0012082

  7. Easy to find, i live close by, in fact i was there yesterday.

Follow Highway 11 to Lamphun, there is a Makro & Big C on the right as you approach the flyover.

Do not go over the flyover keep left and go on to the traffic lights, turn left, this will take you to a shopping area

with banks and markets on your right.

Follow on about 1 to 1.5 kilometers until you see a 7/11 on your right, turn right immediately before the 7/11, follow this road for about 1 kilometer

until the road narrows, there is a car wash on your left, you should turn left just before the car wash.

There are many furniture stores most of them manufacture down there 500 to 600 meters, we usually go to the first one on the right.

    Good hunting

  8. Use up your deposit by not paying the last couple of monthly payments.

I knew what they were like and and did just that, they wrote 8 letters demanding payment of 4100 Baht, i returned these letters by adding a note.

Credit my deposit of 4000 Baht and i will bring the 100 Baht to your office, otherwise f--- off.

They phoned 6 times and i told them to read my comment

My wife was worried but being the former boss of a UK debt collecting company i told her there was nothing to worry about.

This was 6 years ago, 2 years ago i threw out the dish.

  9. Have to disagree with most of the above posters.

I cancelled my UBC about 12 months ago, they actually offered to reduce my monthly bill if I didn't cancel.

The techs came round and picked up the box on the day UBC told me they would and I received a cheque for my deposit a few weeks later, cleared in the Bank within a couple of days.

    Absolutley no problems with them.

I had the same experience. They came when they said they would, sent the pink receipt within 3 weeks and the refund check 2 weeks later. No problem depositing and clearing the check; amount posted to my GF's account the next day.

Those of you who may have ended a relationship with a live-in in who's name the account was opened might have a problem as they will only issue a check to person who is named in the contract.

  10. Gassan courses are the worst kept in Thailand.

I am a member of Lakes and play there once a year, hoping it will have improved, but it never has.

Khuntan has great scenery, is a good layout, but no grass on the fairways, greens that should be called browns.

Absolute rubbish all of them, Marina is the best layout but the worst condition, thousands of stones in the bunkers.

Go to Highlands, the best course in the north, or Alpine the second best.

If Gassan have an offer to play for free, don't go its not worth it.

  11. 4) On the finding a wife, you obviously have experience but still take care. Nonetheless if your money is fixed in Singapore it is less likely to get sucked out of you, becasue you have to think before being able remove it from the bank.

You've pretty much nailed it with your entire post, however you raise a very good point above.

Get a professional wife with a good job and she can support you.

Of course, if you are 3 foot tall, 220kg's, no teeth and poor personal hygiene, then theres probably little chance of that happening.

  12. I live in Lamphun 3 klicks from Big C

A large truck was travelling south from Chiang Mai on highway 11 at 6.30pm on Sat 13th Feb, it ran through a set of red lights 4 kiicks before the Big C junction, in so doing it crashed into a number of motorbikes turning onto the highway 11 on green lights, 4 people were killed.

The driver who lives 500 metres from me tried to escape the scene, but was chased by police.

The junction at Big C has an overpass to avoid local traffic mostly motorbikes coming & going to work on the nearby industrial estates, these people use the old road under the overpass.

The driver of the truck veered off highway 11 and took the slip road leading to the busy junction underneath the overpass, the road was very busy with workers returning home, the truck driver again went against the red lights and ploughed into the motorbikes crossing the road on green lights, a further 12 people died, two of those was in a Vigo truck which then brought the runaway to a holt.

The police caught the driver, and according to local opinion he was pretty badly beaten up by them.

A further 3 people have died in hospital making the carnage 19

  13. You are home free and congratulations on screwing the bank

I am a retired boss of a UK Nationwide debt collecting company who

    employs 65 collectors.

I am knowledgeable in all legal aspects pertaining to debt collecting in

all the member countries of the European community.

Kharzi is correct and has eased your mind.

I am now telling you your FREE and without any worries or concerns

Of course the collectors will write letters and phone you, saying all sorts

of nonsense, designed to cause you to pay up.

The banks are the biggest crooks, cheating and stealing, so its nice to see

    a winner against them.

Please refer to yourself as ROBIN HOOD

  14. Hi folks,

Can you help me with some good restaurant recommendations please.

About 12 months ago I stopped going to Western restaurants as I was invariably disappointed, and realised I could do much better food at home than most of these 'restaurants', and I do enjoy cooking (have a full euro kitchen). Therefore I am afraid my finger is a little off the pulse of the restaurant scene in Pattaya. We still go out for Thai food, but if I fancy farang food I stay at home and cook.

My problem is that my parents are arriving next week for a 3-4 week stay, and my father is allergic to all seafood, so that pretty much rules out all Thai food as they will even put nam plaa in the bloody fried rice. I will of course cook sometimes, but they are on holiday and will want to go out wining and dining, so I would be grateful if you could share some of your good experiences of western dining in Pattaya.

I don't mind going 'high end' a few times, but don't want to do that every day. I am not cheap, but feel value for money is important, and I am sure there are plenty of places that do steaks just as well as Manhattans, but don't charge 3,000 baht for the priveledge (as an example).

    Any recommendations gratefully received.

The best three English restaurants without doubt are The Pig & Whistle, Gregs Kitchen & Yorkies Platter.

Gregs for braised steak and roast potatoes followed by apple pie & custard YUMMIE

Yorkies Platter for Home made real sausages and mash, meat pies, fish & chips followed by cherry pie.

The Pig & Whistle for a fantastic English breakfast and a great mug of tea.

I lived in Pattaya for 14 years and these are the best.

  15. Pattaya is the shit hole of Thailand, i lived there for 14 years and only did so because it took so long for my house to sell.

Driving around town is close to impossible, maniacs are all over the road.

    Shootings, muggings is in abundance.

Pattaya is also the most expensive place to stay in Thailand.

Only a person without knowledge would spend 14m on any property there.

Leave the money where it is and rent, property very rarely appreciates in value

You cannot lose renting and you cannot win buying, and even if you could,

    they might change the law.

Getting money back out of the country, is harder than finding an honest bar girl.

I know you will not take heed of this advise, and i wonder why i bother, but you sound genuine although naieve.

So think long and hard before throwing your money away on a property.

Look around the country and experience other parts of Thailand.

Its natural to fall in love with Pattaya when you visit as a tourist.

    But to live there YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!

Everyone who lives there will tell you its great, they don't want to admit they made a mistake.

You will reflect on this post if you go ahead and buy.
