What about the thousands of fish flapping about in local markets or the local Thais 'fishing' with those spear guns along klongs? I went fishing in Issan once they said it would be fun, all they did was pump the water out of a pond then collect the fish on the bottom when it was empty, what's so special about the parrotfish?

I guess you missed the endangered bit.

USA has 30% and doing better than UK, Germany and France with per million death and infection

You obviously have not looked at, or do not understand the statistics.

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#main_table

US has 3,003 deaths per million, which is way above UK, Germany and France. The number of cases per million  in the UK is higher, but bear in mind that the rate of testing in the UK is about 3 times that of the US.

The booster rate in the UK as of yesterday was 67.4%

The statement they released was mealy mouthed and avoided even naming Russia.

But they supported the UN General Assembly motion condemning the Russian invasion - deeds rather than words are more important in this instance.

Something else to consider for anyone flying back home for jabs

It's highly likely that booster jabs will be needed later perhaps annually to deal with mutations, etc.

It's unknown at this point whether MIXING vaccine brands will be OK or not.

Several European countries have started mixing vaccines, for those whose first dose was Astra Zeneca Denmark and Norway I think, plus maybe France but not so sure. I am not sure what sort of testing they have done as trials on mixing have only just entered second stage in the UK.

Adding ICU beds does not help if there are not enough healthcare workers to support the beds.  This was the problem in other countries.

The situation cannot be contained until there is enough post infection immunity & vaccine protection to  slow spread. I don't think original Covid infection antibodies  will provide significant protection against new variants, so that leaves vaccine and basic precaution like social distancing, no large crowds and so on.

Unfortunately, Thailand seems to be following India model. It escape first hit and assume it would continue to escape, people get sloppy, little precaution. This virus mutates and adapts to be more infectious and more damaging, and now can have its way with the virgin Thailand. I think Thailand future will be more like India and less like UK with result. We are in for some months of heartbreaking tragedy and  Russia or China vaccine will not help.

They are not alone in this, France is in danger of going into freefall with a higher per capita case rate than India, and a population largely reluctant to be vaccinated, partly due to the erratic musings and opinions of their president who purports to be an expert.  It's almost like Trump never went away...

    I don't buy that.

There are plenty who want the current outrageous gap in income strongly reduced.

Currently Thailand has the biggest gap in the world regarding the gap in income.

Thailand is not even in the lowest quartile when it comes to income equality, and certainly nowhere near the good old US of A.

  7. There always seems to be this strange attitude whenever money is spent on any public event/project (see Apollo, etc)  that the money should not be spent until world poverty/disease has been eradicated. On that logic, no-one should be allowed any discretionary expenditure until the same ends have been achieve - any volunteers ?

Similarly, in the UK, the naysayers following the news (on an event that they allegedly had no interest in) were bleating about how much coverge it was getting and what about the Cuban air crash ? Quite bizarre. The only slightly amusing story from the anti-monarchy scene yesterday was that there was a convention of the Alliance of European Republican Movements held in London - 130 people turned up....

I didnt know they were getting married till i saw a news bite yesterday arvo  but i had an early night so tragically missed it.

I bet the UK government  had that Russian  dissident released from Salisbury hospital  to coincide with the wedding. Great distraction.

Bo Jo and May basically lied through their corroded teeth .

    Where's the Russian now?

Sounds like you are sorry that he didn't die - strange attitude.

First Rush, now Merson.  Liverpool v Arsenal.  Soon it will be Mike Dean or Howard Webb or Mark Sheikh Clattenburg to explain, with the aid of 'champagne', why they made that weird decision to award a penalty with just two minutes to go. Or not to send off de Jong of Holland in the first half of the 2010 World Cup Final.

Maybe we could have Graham Three Cards Poll for a fun night...

Is there indeed a large enough expat audience in Bangkok for this kind of thing?

No, will probably be Harry Redknapp next : cash only or cheques made out to Rosie.
