You will both need your passorts, visas and a residence certificate from immigration. The easiest way is for you both to drive to to the Driving Licence Centre off Highway 36 (in Pattaya). People there can do the paperwork for a few hundred baht. The DLC will check the car belongs to you and they can change the name in the green book to the buyer. He hands over the money and it's done.  Maybe only 1 hour.

    Thank you very much

  2. Hi everyone

I have in the past been using the 65K monthly transfer to secure my yearly retirement extension and was told that I had to ensure that my monthly bank transfers were labeled "International transfer" and that they would not accept transfers from Western Union etc that did not contain that statement.

It now suits me to use the 800K in the bank method and just top up if required.

Are there any restrictions or rules on how my top up payments are deposited into my Thai Bank, ie do my top up's have to prove to have come from abroad or could I now use a company such as Western Union etc.

    Thank you in advance

I renewed my 5 year licence a week ago (in Udon Thani). It was 10 months expired, not a problem. You need to apply online, watch a video, answer a few simple questions and then select where and when to get your appointment. In some areas all appointments are booked for weeks, try a smaller more rural centre if that is an issue (what i did). Take the required documents, do traffic light test and brake test, take a photo, pay, pick up licence 10 minutes later. Whole process at the test centre took about 1 hour, their were sufficient socially distanced seats (there is a cap on the number of appointments each day).

    Thank you

All the DLTs are now operating an appointment system in order to prevent overcrowding. (social distancing and all that) So you shouldn't have the issue of long waits and no seating. I renewed mine recently and it only took 40 mins, most of that time was spent sitting playing Sudoku!

    Thank you

What about the forms required and anything else and how to make the appointment

  5. Hi Everyone

I live in The Pattaya area

I have had a Thai Driving License for 16 years but was unable to renew it as I was stuck in The UK due to Covid  restrictions.

My License expired last August 2021.

I am happy to go to the test center etc but I am not so good on my legs if I have to queue for long periods, which I recall the case there.

Can anyone recommend a good service that could assist me to complete the forms etc and perhaps call me up to the appropriate section when needed.

    Many thanks

    Hi, here's my experience:

I'm from UK, I also lost my visa extension. I applied for a Thai Pass mid November - NO ISSUES - I flew back to Thailand on Dec 6th with Emirates, my ticket was for 60 days although I was entering on a 30 day visa exempt. I purchased an "onward travel ticket" 32 Dollars - no one asked to see it at Emirates check in (but I consider it cheap insurance in case someone did).

I did my declaration of residence at Korat Immigration a couple of days after arriving, at the same time I asked about getting a non O (90 day) and converting to retirement extensions - I was told to come back 15 days before expiry of my 30 day visa exempt - this i did and although a lot of paperwork and waiting I was told to come back 30th December for the visa - (so not 100% but it looks like I have managed to do the 90 day non O without having to extend the visa exempt by 30 days).

I stress one thing I have had in excess of 800,000 baht in a Thai Bank account for over 8 years.

    Dear negita43

Thank you so much for explaining your circumstances and method.

I have also maintained my required amount into the bank and will also buy an ongoing airline ticket.

  7. Hello Everyone

I am a bit confused and would appreciate some advice.

I originally had a multiple entry O visa from 2009 and have been receiving extensions based on Retirement.

I like others have lost my Retirement extension status due to being locked down in England and now would like to get that reinstated.

I have heard that I could enter Thailand on a Tourist Visa then apply to get an O visa and finally get an extension based on Retirement subject to fulfilling the financial requirements.

Unfortunately, my wife (English) is nervous to do that just in case of a problem getting the O visa in Thailand.

Therefore, I am in the process of applying online via e-visa for whatever is the basic type of O visa which will allow me to get an extension when in Thailand.

My departure is for 13th January via plane change in Singapore, my ticket duration is 141 days, will that be a problem when applying for the O visa as I don’t really want to apply for a multiple entry O?

Also, from the dropdown menu on e-visa I can only see an O visa for 60 days to visit Thai family as I believe other 90 day visa like STV cannot be extended, am I missing something.

    Your help would be appreciated.

By the way myself and wife are 70 years old

    Thank you

That is the type of extension I was writing about. You can double check with the embassy but it is not currently listed as a visa or extension of stay that is allowed to apply for a certificate of entry.

    List is here: https://london.thaiembassy.org/en/publicservice/119247-requirements-for-certificate-of-entry-during-travel-restriction?page=5d6636cd15e39c3bd00072dd&menu=5f4b6eb3f6ae4b236972c562

Thank you very much, I will check.

You can apply for a certificate of entry at the embassy in London based upon having a extension of stay based upon retirement if you have a valid re-entry permit to keep it valid.

Is your wife also on an extension based upon retirement? If on a extension based upon being a member of your family they have not yet included that on the list of those that can enter the country with a certificate of entry.

Thank you for your reply ubonjoe, just to clarify, my wife and I both have re-entry permits and our extension is based on retirement, but my wife's extension is granted as we are married and I can show the required amount transferred each month into my Thai bank, does that change anything?

    Thank you for your time

  10. Good afternoon all from a very damp and cold UK

I would appreciate any help or suggestions regarding the following.

My wife and I were residing in our condo in Pattaya until early July this year, when we returned to the UK.

In April 2020 I renewed my extension to stay based on retirement and got re-entry permits before our departure from Thailand hoping to return in November 2020.

I have been using the monthly international transfer of at least 65,000 baht into my Thai bank account and have and will continue those transfers.

My concern and request for advice is, if there are still travel restrictions on entering Thailand do to Covid and I can’t return before the expiry of my retirement extension in April 2021, is there any way that I can apply for any amnesty or grace period or is it just a case of losing my status and having to start all over again?

    Thank you in advance
