  1. Absolutely.

I have been flying with them in that class for years.

I also have longer legs but a normal body frame.

I reserve on line an aisle seat in the emergency row. Lots of leg room.

Nothing to see out the window anyway is there???

    Out or in your seat

is no problem. I found that on most flight, in that section, I had

nobody seating next to me. In fact I had 2 seats to myself since

the other person reserved the other aisle seat. 4 seats for 2 passengers.

Enjoy your flight. I always do. Great food and service on EVA.

  2. Nice one Lancelot!

I've not been there, I think I'll give it a go.

Totally agree with you Lancelot. Wong Duaeng is the beach to go to in Kho Samet. My favorite for the last 20 years. For a R&R with your significant one , unbeatable. A couple hours from Bangkok but not the hassle of Pattaya, Phuket, Samui sex scene. Pristine water.

It is also a National park. Great walking from beach to beach, left or right.

  3. Since I live on Silom Soi 3, 2 minutes from the Bangkok Bang Headquarter. I just took a litte stroll there.

There is about no more than 10 policemen and 2 police pickups. No sight of a shattered window or a damaged taxi. Not even a journalist or photogtapher.

In any case I would have heard if a bomb had exploded. I used the ATM there. I wanted to go inside for that service but was directed to the street booth where a Bank security man allowed me in. I had a close view of the biulding and the area.

As far as I am concerned nothing to worry.

  4. Hi Bangkok aficionados, I would like to stay in a hotel in a cool area that has an outdoor pool that is open at night (i.e. til midnight, 10pm at least). I stayed at Navalai River Resort last time, which has a fantastic rooftop pool with river view, but only open til 8pm.

Anyone know of other hotels with nice pools on the roof that are open at night? We're not choosy about neighborhood as long as it's downtown somewhere.

    thanks!

Check out the Unico Grande Silom, formely Tower Inn, across the street from Sofitel.

Great rooftop pool with a beer garden. A few minutes walk to the Skytrain, Chongnonsi station

and the vibrant Silom night life. A great value for money including breakfast.

  5. Politician fumes over "gay" elephant in zoo

    April 11, 2009, 3:34 am

WARSAW (Reuters) - A Polish politician has criticized his local zoo for acquiring a "gay" elephant named Ninio who prefers male companions and will probably not procreate, local media reported Friday.

"We didn't pay 37 million zlotys ($11 million) for the largest elephant house in Europe to have a gay elephant live there," Michal Grzes, a conservative councilor in the city of Poznan in western Poland, was quoted as saying.

"We were supposed to have a herd, but as Ninio prefers male friends over females how will he produce offspring?" said Grzes, who is from the right-wing opposition Law and Justice party.

The head of the Poznan zoo said 10-year-old Ninio may be too young to decide whether he prefers males or females as elephants only reach sexual maturity at 14.

    (For the ridiculous stories file)

and wow 11 million bucks for a elephant house..... did it include massage tables

Gay elephants do exist. They are calles "Megasoreass"

  6. Hello everyone :D

Im in Chiang Rai (april 15 local date) and was wondering if anyone wanted to go out or meet to just have some fun and share a drink, talk, anything.

    ? let me know

Hi, i dont know where's Chiang Rai,but i would love to make some friends here...been in thailand for 3 days now and its a bit lonely...

i dont know how the area where i'm staying is called its at amari atrium hotel :o

Lonely in Thailand? You're a short taxi ride away from night spots. Little longer to day spots. Hard to be lonely if you just try a bit. Can't remember if they have a buffet breakfast there, but just ask fellow guests what to see, where they've been etc. You likely won't make friends, but curing the loneliness should be pretty easy.

I'm not really that guy who like's to party 24/7 :D i love nightlife, but not everyday...

I like to spend my time with people in nice place, having a few beers and a good chat :D

and i've never had a problem finding friends its just a matter of time :D

I do not know where you come from but anyone coming in an unfamiliar country, I assume that he/she would have done their homework before coming.

If you say that it's never been a problem to make friends before, so did you not know any one in your group of friends back home who has been to Thailand before and could recommend places of interest?

There is also the internet..... I rest my case.

  7. Aha if only it was that easy, I'm practically middle aged and I haven't been able to quash my bisexual urges. It's all about keeping my head straight and avoiding pooing on the doorstep.

Money is the thing. Currently I don't earn enough to play away so my extra curricular activities are always going to be in the locality as long as a flight or a taxi ride is out of my price range.

In no way I want to judge you. We all have these urges for something or somebody at times. It happens that with a few drinks the thinking is not so clear.

Next time you have this urge, think with the right head.

Grow a mustache or shave it, tint your hair, etc, etc. Look different for a while.

    Have a good night.

  8. Why not?

The liquor ban was delt with on April 01 along with George's April's fool joke.

Getting to and from your favorite bars might be a problem with the taxis getting into the act and perhaps the motocycles taxis, at least in Bangkok.

Do not expect a booming business as you would expect on a normal Friday night or the whole weekend for that matter. A tough time for the bar, pub, restaurants operators. One more reason to patronise your drinking hole in these "gray" times.

  9. Guys stop fighting and arguing. i just went to seacon and went in to Kasikorn Bank where there was beautiful customer care girls. They welcomed me with a big smile and asked me what i want. i told them i want to open a bank account she asked for work permit. i said sorry no work permit but i got a long term visa (NON-O, Multi entry 1 year).

thats all guys. i was given a number and in 10 seconds my token number came. so i went to the smiling girl at the counter and its all done. i was asked to sign on 2 papers and 2 times on the pass book. i got ATM + Book and she went with me to ATM and helped me to change the PIN in my card. i deposited 40,000 baht on spot and she had a smile for me. luckily she stay in my area and knows my building.

so today i did a lot. got a bank account, card, pass book and a beautiful friend.

thanks for the important information u guys posted here..

I hope she was not looking over your shoulder when you changed your PIN......

  10. No Need to worry fengibs. I was there last week and it's very simple.

You can download and print the visa application form from the Thai embassy website. Fill it out before you go and affix the photo with glue.

Make a copy of the first page of your passport, the one with your picture, before you go. They have, at the Embassy a photocopy service but they charge 10 times more than the same photocopy in town. Beware. In Thailand the photocopy is 1 or 2 baht.

As you go on March 15 you will present yourself on the 16, Monday morning. It is usualy busy on Mondays but bearable. They open the gates at 8:30 and give a number in sequence for the application deposit. Last week I was given number 235 and was out by 11.00. The service is fast, ordely and cordial.

After the application has been deposited you retain the number and go to the other building to pay the fees. 1,000 baht for each entry. Maximum 2 entries. The 2 entries has been posted already.

You pick up your visa the next day from 1:00 and are also given a sequenced number. That procedure is much faster. You can fly back the day you pick up the passport. Maximum 2 nights stay.

As far as your virginity is concerned I doubt you will loose it in Vientiane. Everything closes at 11PM.

  11. I have been receiving my credit card renewal from my bank abroad for the last 20 years or so. Normal mail.

The documents that comes along requires you, the card holder, to phone a toll free number to activate the card.

Questions asked, your mother's maiden name, her date of birth, your pet's name, etc, etc...

If Thai Banks do not have these security parameters then anyone handling the mail, could be your building Manager, then you might be at risk.

Registered mail is a safer way in dealing with Thai Banks or overseas mail, whatever the content.

  12. The absolutely best visa run on all accounts in my view, is to go to Bangkok and the Lao embassy and apply for a 14 day visa. take that visa and go to the train station and by a train ticket first class night coach to Vientiane. With the Lao visa in your possession, you get on board the train at around 20:00 in the evening and you weak up in Vientiane, Laos 08:00 the next morning ready to go straight to the Thai embassy and apply for a new visa. 1-3 days later you can go back, after a great mini vacation with no problems!

Thanks for the post. I am trying to help a French friend to do the same visa trip early next month. His command of English is next to nothing so this site is not where he can ask the information he needs. I suggested to fly to Udon Thani, on a no frills airline and by road to the Friendship Bridge and then to Vientiane. Ditto for the return. Pricewise, are both option about the same?

    Thanks Buddy.

  13. Scorecard, I totally agree with your comments. I first would like to add my own.

I sadly admit. My disco years are behind me. But I did go to DJ or Soi 2 for the last time some 7 or 8 years ago. I never went back because I realised it was a fire trap. The BF avoids it for the same reason.

Back home many years ago I was in a Disco/bar when fire broke out. Every man for himself. Being in my mid-twenties then I was able to wrestle my way out. Many did not. I lost many friends. This was a one story building. Do not underestimate the effect of fumes. It kills more than fire itself.

The only thing on wheels that can go in Soi 2 is a bycicle or a motorcycle. No way a fire truck, even a pick-up can go in.

That in itself should be one of the many criterias the Authorities should look into.

I am not too familiar with the Silom geography around Soi 2 except that it is a a very narrow lane. Are there any fire hydrant nearby???

Mr./Khun Than, If the fire department, located in Bangrak on Suriwong, is called there, by the time they reach Soi 2 with the, Silom traffic, buses, vendors and their pick-up trucks by the curb, parked taxis etc it would take them 15-20 minutes to reach DJ with any kind of water. By that time DJ customers would have to deal with toxic fumes, stampede and total chaos.

These metal stairs from floor to floor are not the easiest one to negociate. Many customers are not in their prime years.....

Coming back to that security guy with the key to the exit door. wHAT A JOKE.

Why DJ does not have a metal door at that exit with a waist high push out bar to open the door in case of emergency. Or any given exits for that matter. A writen note, Thai and English, on the door saying that a siren will sound if opened can be added to deter any cheap walking guest, not wanting to pay the entrance fee but helped by an already in friend. The security guys should be stationed there. No need for a key. He, the security guy would be the first one to exit in a case of a fire and hopefully help the others. Don't hold your breath on that one. In such a situation it's every man for himself.

I refrain to comment on the pictures we all seen of the so called exits from DJ.

    A further post???
