I'm planning a trip for 2 people from BKK to koh Samui and would it be possible to know which of the four travel agents listed below would have the best (cheapest) rates:

1. Travel agent at the airport (like at Suwannapoom).

2. Travel agent at the hotel (like Avana Hotel).

3. Travel agent at the shopping mall (like Seacon Square).

4. Travel agent shop (like an office on the Soi).

Also, since I'm staying briefly in the Bang Na area, would I probably need to travel to the much farther away Don Muang airport for domestic travel?

I recently spent some time with my wife's family in Chonburi. She has an aunt/cousin whose name is Nong.

Nong is in her late forties."So what do people call her?" I asked. "Pii Nong" came the reply. So what do I call her, because she is younger than me?

Khun Nong came the reply.

Couldn't you call her Nongsao Nong? (same as Ms. Nong)

What You need to do is use a double cassette deck and copy the original to a high quality tape, such as Maxell or TDK. Then use the copy to play in your car tape player.

Keep the original tape unused to make future copies later!!

PS I've done the same with a Berlitz Thai 90 minute cassette w/ phrase book.

I try not to answer a question with the word "yeah" when I'm in LOS, instead use "yes" or "krupt".

Because I understand "yeah" means "bad" or "awful" in the Thai Language!!

When I was watching Thai television, I saw and said out loud:

เร็วๆนี้

My girlfriend said it means 'soon'. Like a movie will be coming out soon.

I put this phrase in thai2english and it came out เร็ว means 'suddenly'

and นี้ means 'this'.

I think the phrase means: (To be) quickly here. Please confirm knowledgeable forum members!

My understanding for "Kae-nee-nah krupt, sawadee krupt" is "that is all [polite particle], good bye [polite particle]."

Did the exchange at Super Rich when I arrived in BKK.

Later when I was at Secon Square I tried 3 different banks and they said they cannot except the $100 notes with the date marked "series 1998".

I went back to Super Rich and did the normal exchange! No problem at all with the older notes!

Super Rich is located 1 block north of Big C - Central World. Look for the orange colored sign!

ส้วม is a more direct word for 'toilet' than ห้องน้ำ. The transcription 'suwam' is a bit weird but I think I understand why they have chosen it. '[F]suam' is more common - but that does invite some native English speakers to emphasize the 'am' syllable and pronounce it 'am' (as in 'I am') rather than 'um' as in RP English [®um].

Also the sample dialog for fruit is 'pon-mai'. We all know that is wrong!

Well, yes, the regular pronunciation is '[R]phon-[M (or H)]la-[H]maai' but the 'pon-mai' is not altogether wrong. On rare occasions I have heard it pronounced like that. It agrees more with what you would intuitively assume from the Thai spelling ผลไม้ where it will not be completely self-evident that the ล at the end of ผล doubles to form a second syllable.

The survival kit includes the word 'suwam' for 'latrine'. Is 'suwam' a military hong-nam or do most Thai people know what a suwam is?

Funny that there is a topic about Somchai! Last time I saw my TG I asked her should I have a Thai nickname. I then asked her "what do you think about the name 'Somchai'"? She just laughed and said "up to you!" So now when I call her on the torasap I say "Mister Somchai would like to speak to a lovely lady!"

So that is my nickname - Mister Somchai

Ps. I believe the owner of 13 coins restaurant is named Somchai.
