  1. With the requirement for flight tickets at the Thai consulates in Penang and Singapore, I wondered if anyone has recently applied for a Thai tourist visa in Kuala Lumpur? Is it business as usual or are there additional hardships?

    Thanks :o

If it's a 60 day tourist visa (extendable-90 days) you want then KL is very straight forward and hassle free. Simply turn upto to the consulate bright and early, fill in the form, take a queue number, when you are called just hand them your apllication form, passport, 110Ringit (local currency), 2 photos and return the following morning to pick up your passport with your shiny new visa inside.

  2. For after hours (when everyones already drunk and this is really your best time for random hookups) try Blur on Petchburi, and also there's some hotel with a basement bar...I forget the name, someone might mention in...Livingston, Rembrandt...argh can't remember on Sukhumvit Soi 20. This is like for 2:00am and onwards. These places are pretty much 95% thai.

Are you referring to Scratch Dog (I think that's the name)?

When I go out it's mainly to Thai places and to be honest my opinion is if you are not Thai/Asian/mixed, cannot speak Thai to a good conversational standard and don't know much about Thai culture then don't expect an easy pick up. You may find the odd girl in the crowd that will speak to you if you approach her because her english is good but apart from that, all I can say is all the best!

  3. I'm currently looking for a nice 1 bedroom pad in BKK. It must be between Asoke-Thonglor, near to BTS, high floor, must be modern with top quality decor. I want to spend between 20,000-35,000 preferably (long stay)

Help me find the ultimate bachelors pad.

I have 1 bedroom at Sukhumvit soi 13 with 50 sq m,Fully furnished and the rental price is 25,000 baht/month. Another one at Asoke, studio with 38sqm,fully furnished and the rental price is 25,000 baht(neg). Both are at lease 1 year contract.

Please call me, If you wanted to visited 08-9890-9337

I'm looking for something that is at least 65sqm

  4. Hi people,

My Thai speaking is getting quite good now and I would like to learn how to read and write in Thai also. I have a lot of time on my hands being just 20 years old and living here in LOS so I thought why not go to a Uni or somewhere to teach me properly.

Does anyone know if Bangkok Uni do such courses? Or any other private Uni's?

    All recommendations welcome.

  5. A few good recommendations so far guys, keep them coming.

I don't want to live in an old building where the rooms have that gloomy dark wood floor and ancient furniture along with an analogue tv so please make modern recommendations.

  6. if price is of no concern, then, you should be able to just look up, and pick out a highrise that you might consider living in. there are only so many highrises in thonglor.

Price is not a major concern however I don't want to be paying something similar to what I would pay to mortgage a decent house in the UK for a 65-70sqm suite in Thailand because I have seen some serviced apartments for £1k++

When you are living here over a long period of time rentals such as the above can get ridiculous!

  7. I don't want any dark and dinjy rat holes!

I though you might have gotten used to that in Pattaya :o

No way! the place where I stay is very nice indeed.

Just to give you an idea, when I come to bkk I stay in hotels such as the Peninsula, Oriental, Emporium suites and Sheraton Grande.

  8. I'm thinking about moving from Pattaya to BKK very soon and just wanted to know if anyone can recommend a nice upmarket apartment in the Thonglor area, something with a bit of class, must be a one bedroom suite with all the mod cons. I don't want any dark and dinjy rat holes! So please don't recommend anything ridiculously cheap because I believe that 'you get what you pay for'

Thanks in advance for all of your recommendations.

  9. I would recommend the NOKIA VIP theatre in Siam Paragon. It has a classy bar, lounge area, massage chairs (electronic and human) inside the theatre the seating layout is in 2's only unlike other cinemas where only the back rows are usually VIP. The seats are very large, leather, electronic and fully reclinable. Blankets and pillows are also provided along with waiter service.

They also always have a variety of movies showing so IMO this is the best.

  10. Is there any difference in the salons at MBK and the one in Siam Discovery Center? Which one is recomended?

The Toni & Guy in MBK is the 'essensuals' salon which is a tier below 'Toni & Guy' in Siam Discovery with the main difference being that in Siam Discovery they have much more experienced stylists and directors so I would recommend the T&G in Siam Discovery.

  11. While we are on the subject of Thonglo, does anyone know of any nice apartments available in Thonglo apart from centrepoint? I'm not looking for anything cheap and cheerful so please don't suggest any rat holes to me. I want something classy with all the mod cons etc, preferably a serviced residence A one bedroom suite would be just fine.

I do know BKK very well so if anyone knows of any other places I might be interested in then please let me know.

  12. I've been there.

I would say that the rooms are quite nice and modern but still a bit on the cheap side IMO for Sofitel standards considering they are charging the best part of B4000 for a standard room.

The presidential 2 bed suite isn't that spectacular either, I didn't like the layout and it's not a touch on any other in a 5* establishment.

Staff are friendly and the service is comparable to a 3-4 star hotel.

If you are only going to go standard then I would say that the Dynasty Inn Grande next door is a much better choice and it's a fraction of the cost at only B2280 per night.

So the Grand Sukhumvit by Sofitel is a no for me, there are much better hotels in BKK available at a similar price.

  13. I must say that I have had some very good times in bed and Qbar however that was 12-18 months ago when both were really good clubs. I would go on a weekly basis and enjoy it!

Now I find that both places are filling up with lady boys, indians and way too many farangs which is not really what I'm looking for!

There are so many other better places around BKK, one just needs to know where they are going. As someone mentioned above, Thonglo is a very happening area.

  14. I like any bar soi 7/1 because they got chubby Issan girls. I like big. So do they.

I like plump Issan women also. Which town is the best,Korat,Udon?

No need to travel that far just visit Pattaya and you'll find thousands!

  15. Hmmm not sure about Soi Twilight...friends and I always call them "money boy" haircuts! Hair Decor at Siam Discovery...same floor as Toni and Guy at 350Baht is where I and my bf and his friends cut their hair. New place that a lot of guys from the gym are going to is called "I am" on Silom above the KFC next to the BTS. Can't remember the name of the shopping center but next to Thaniya Plaza on Silom side with KFC and Subway and Outlet shop downstairs. I was there the other day with friend from gym and saw several boys getting trendy haircuts. These guys originally worked at Siam Square.

Do you have an exact location?

    If not.

Then does anyone else know where he is talking about?

I have always used Toni & Guy but I am still searching for something better.

I've been told that Chalacol at Erawan/Salon de bkk (emporium) is the best and it's apparently where the celebrities go but I have not yet tried them out.

  16. If you are willing to fork out the money, go to Toni & Guy at Siam Discovery Center. www.toniandguy.co.th

I Had the exact same issue when I first came to Thailand. There was nobody I would trust to touch my hair however I did decide to risk it one day and went to Toni & Guy. They have one salon in MBK and the other is in Siam Discovery Centre as mentioned above. Expect to pay international prices though.

Other top places are Chalacol located at the Erawan just before the Grand Hyatt hotel not far from Siam and Salon de BKK in Emporium shopping centre.

All top establishments, pricey but worth every penny IMO.
