  1. Let's put some stoner falang on a Buffalo and lead him around. wai2.gifwai.gifblink.png

Thus, projecting an illusion of “Foreigner Friendship”.

“The idea for the festival originated in Bangkok tourism business circles”

“Only about 75 people attended the event, far short of the targeted 300.”

“The festival’s cost is estimated at around 200,000 baht”

    Right. Another brilliant plan. clap2.gif

    Clueless.

Perhaps, painting the Buffalo with Camouflage would have helped...

Although I just picked a single one quote I could have done with the most of quotes. Could you please tell me why you are so sarcastic? Why do not you guys try to appreciate sometimes what they do? I guess those farangs could jump on the buffaloes for free. Sure, you can have an elephant trip cheap, but it is not about it. Looking at the picture, both guys seem to enjoy the ride along with the guide. Additionally, the guide has a great charisma. Oh, yes, costs? Everything costs some coins today. If you take a cab, if you ride your motorcycle. Or do you only see "the gasoline costs" once you ride your bike or drive your car? What about the engines the spare parts? Will all those come for free?

Once again, try to appreciate things like this festival. Maybe it can bring people together, maybe it can also create a wonderful athmosphere. Maybe it helps to turn down prejudice against foreigners in some heads. Who knows? All these effects are long-term.

Anyway, I see it here (Seoul) that these events are extremely useful and yes, if there is a chance I try to contribute to it.

  2. The street vendors are something that many tourists seem to love. On one hand the nation is pleading, rather unsuccessfully to date, with tourists to come back, and on the other they're removing the sorts of things that make Bangkok so attractive to a large percentage of those that do come here.

I agree...street vendors are a part of the culture and a definite attraction here..not just in tourist areas, but everywhere in Thailand and provide a huge number of people with a way to make a living.

Chinatown has been a maze of crowded sidewalks since long before Bangkok became a tourist destination.

It would not be a bad thing to enforce existing laws regarding placement and encroachment on sidewalks. Between their tables, stools and storage boxes, there is often less than a single lane for pedestrians to pass.

About 6 or 7 years ago,an attempt was made to delineate table areas along lower Sukhumvit; lines were drawn and spaces allocated. Unfortunately, enforcement was non-existent and it soon returned to the chaos it is today.

The problem of course is that the law enforcers are part of the problem: some added discipline in the police ranks has to be part of the solution.

Do you really want Bangkok to be like Singapore? Yes; clean and easy to navigate sidewalks but also sterile and boring. I hope a happy medium can be found.

Balance will be hard to achieve and even harder to maintain but I hope an effort is made to preserve what make Bangkok such a unique and interesting city.

thumbsup.gif agree, the first I loved in Bangkok is the "mess" which is not as bad as it sounds. besides, if you compare it to Manila, Bangkok is a lot better organized. I do not want Bangkok to become Singapore...cities like that are "industrialized" but boring for the money the average person earns.

  3. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

    Great story ... alt=thumbsup.gif>

"when he is told the bride's family insisted that the ceremony go early and the show is over"

    Why did it happen early?

I have no idea. It was supposed to be at 11:00, and it was over when we arrived at 10:00. Only the money line was going.

    premature detonation thumbsup.gif

  4. Each had to pay THB 120,000 in travel expenses to be able to make THB 100,000 per head.

When Thais try to make up stories about how much money they have lost, and should be compensated for, this usually happens, as they don't know math. Fortunately none of the journalists and investigating officers know math either, so none of the people involved will ever realise that something is wrong.

And don't forget that "An initial probe found a company that sent Thai workers to Sweden had caused 500 people to suffer total losses of about Bt100 million" which means they now each lost 200,000 baht. Tomorrow it will probably be 300,000 baht. The more the better when the PTP government eventually has to compensate them in order not to lose their vote.

And the compensation may happen through carefully handpicked jasmine rice that was offered to tourists at the airport. thumbsup.gif

  5. I want to read one of these that doesn't blame the foreigner.

Prostitution and minor wives are endemic here in local population. Just look at the native soapies and the pretty massage places. Even in up country areas where there aren't foreigners.

and how much it is true....life is just so simple. it is always easier to blame others than the own nation

  6. Is Thailand still advertising itself as a democracy? What a joke. But the idea that the cronies who run Thailand have anything to do with democratic rule has always been laughable.

Agreed, it isn't a real democracy here. However, surrendering to a red mob who want to install a latter day Thai Mussolini is another step in the wrong direction.

There has never been a real democracy, what we call as democracy. The most liberal times are over. Let's look into the future. The hope never dies. :)

  7. 18 years, for misguided verbiage? 10 years for murder, no jail for policemen's son assassination of a cop about to blow the whistle as 200 people in the disco on New Petchaburi Rd did not see the incidence, 2 years for stealing billions from Thai people as a Prime Minister - dam_n... where will it end and who makes up these rules? No wonder Thailand has become Fantasy Land or Adventure Land without the Disney... :D

These are the "fair democratic" rules copyright by Thai democracy. Disney Land is cheaper and safer, so it is not an option. :)

  8. Sentence is outrageous, and it doesn't really matter what they said, even if they used the foulest language with direct malicious intent (which I doubt, but we'll never know due to secret proceedings). Burma and North Korea are surely in good company now.

I fully agree that the sentence is outrageous adding that in Western democracies this would be subject to penalty (in money). It is an exemplary sentence in a democratic country, where the government has not been elected. :)

  9. BKK <> Chang Rai - RTN

Thai Airways "Happy all the way in Thailand, Super Save" - INCLUDING taxes: THB 3,790

Air Asia - INCLUDING taxes: THB 1,400

So, Thai Air plan on taking on the low cost airlines - FOR TWO MONTHS! And then what???? :)

And then you take the book from Prof. Doganis and you know what will happen to small players and to flag carriers. Thai will always be a flag carrier and will never be able to fight back Air Asia. Btw..Bangkok Air is a sub from Thai. So that means cannibalization effect for both airlines if they use the promotions on wing-to-wing flights. So who will be the long-term winner? I just replied the question above :D

  10. That's it. Here we go. I don't think I have to add anything else. The thing is that many Thais believe in revolution and hope in democracy and not in Thaksin...no need to tell, what is happening behind, well-informed people (especially Thais) know it.

is this thread has become stupid speak!!!!!!

Oh, sorry. give me a source, where it is said that this government is elected democratically (okay, half-democratically because the Thai constitution has been modified).

    :o

  11. What a short sighted move it would be to bring Taksin back. If the government were to bring him back and try to prosecute him you would just incite the redshirts, after all they are the majority. They are just not as organised with their funding (pay rates to protesters) as the PAD. All the bad madia about the UDD, basically the didn't do anything that PAD hadn't already but now they aren't in power so won't get away with it.

If you bring him back you are guaranteed a revolution, better of to have an election and give the power to the people.

I totally agreed, do the rights thing to save more lives.

That's it. Here we go. I don't think I have to add anything else. The thing is that many Thais believe in revolution and hope in democracy and not in Thaksin...no need to tell, what is happening behind, well-informed people (especially Thais) know it.
