Many of the experts such as ubonjoe are tipping amnesty extension. If it seems amnesty not extended you could apply for extension to your visa exempt stamp (30 days) Borders won't be opening.

You should have escape plan for future when amnesty does end which would be fly back to own country.

I will go to the immigration office and see what the options are, i live here working away on rotation so no worries about getting out, im more worried at getting in!! Thanks for posting

  2. Has anyone managed to get an O visa from Laos or other country neighboring Thailand? I have heard it is possible to do it at Savanakhet Laos.

I know flights are slowly coming back from Bangkok abroad but i don't want to get stuck and not be able to get back in.

I used axa travel insurance last year for the sons month long trip to the UK, last March. (The other considered last year was Allianz)

Using Pacific Cross Travel insurance for a transit to the UK this month.

The problem I found in respect to the son, in many Thai policy wording was, that they did not cover residents of the country to be visited. but when you went to the definitions it said Resident = if you hold a passport for that country! Which is not the same thing at all. That would make the policy worthless in the case of a dual national.

The wife picked AIA for past visits, i've not looked at them recently though.

ok thanks for that, i have used axa before for house insurance etc...any idea roughly what the amount was?

  4. Does anyone have any recommendations or experience of buying Holiday health insurance for a visit to the UK?

I am travelling with my Thai wife and son and want to make sure they are covered just in case of any problems.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    cheers

The Non O and the Non O-A are different Visa types.

The Non O-A is ME but requires a Police record check and Medical certificate.

The Non O is now only available as a single entry Visa according to the website.

Yes correct, I spoke to the Embassy in London finally and she was actually quite helpful. She recommended to apply for single entry O Visa then covert it into a Spouse visa in Thailand, she said all future renewals could be done while in Thailand. I am not sure how correct this is but will check it out when i get back to Phuket later this week.

Which Visa are you trying to apply for?

The information you posted are requirements for the Non Imm O-A Visa.

Yes you are right, i have had several non im O multi entry visas in the past by post from the embassy in London. When i select this visa again on the new website multi entry is not an option, i am currently on hold to the embassy in london to see if this visa is no longer available....on hold for 52 mins so far by the way

  7. I have managed to get to the end section of the form this morning after repeated attempts. The supporting documents ask for;

Certificate of criminal record clearance from the country of nationality or the country where the application is submitted - I have never seen this before and was not required for O visas in the past, has anyone ever obtained this and if so where from?

A medical certificate issued from the country where the application is submitted, showing no prohibitive diseases as indicated in the Ministerial Regulation No.14 (B.E. 2535) (certificate shall be valid for not more than three months) - Again this is a new requirement going on my past applications, anyone done  this?

I am surprised that there are no questions regarding why you want a long stay visit ie wife, kids etc just financial questions.

  8. I have been trying all morning to apply for a long stay visa online, the service started today. The website is very glitchy and does not seem to be working properly. It wont accept my id photo and when you try to check it with their online verification that doesn't work, when i e-mailed them for help through their message service the mail bounces back as not available so clearly a few things to iron out. Has anyone yet managed to navigate this site successfully?

I am in Bangkok in a few days and wondered if anyone had managed to obtain an "O" visa from there? I know technically you are supposed to do this from your home country but its worth asking.

  9. Has anyone gone through the process of applying for a FDA licence recently. I need to get Vitamins and other supplements for my young son from the USA on a regular basis. The last shipment did not clear Thai Customs and i have been told by Fedex that i need an FDA licence.

I have read up on it and it seems a lengthy and i'm sure expensive process.

Any experiences or thoughts would be welcome as i need to find a solution quite quickly.

Interesting question but no it's not. Even with a five year visit visa your wife won’t be allowed to stay in the UK for more than 180 days in any 12 month period.

Quite how that works I have no idea. Presumably if you have TB people can catch it from you whether you are here for six months or six years. I noticed when my wife was going for settlement that diplomats wanting to settle here also don't require a TB test. Government employee germs are obviously not catching!

Is that a fact that its a maximum 180 days in any 12 month period? If so no test necessary as it says the guideline says  'if you want to come to the UK for more than 6 months from Thailand' That would seem to be the answer as far as i can tell...it would be good if i could call VFS or e-mail but not possible.

  11. Yes it not quite clear to me and your point on the diplomats is a good one...maybe they are issued white masks!!!

We only intend to stay a maximum of 4 weeks each visit but it looks like she will have to go do the TB test, its a pain as we live in Phuket so its not just round the corner. The guideline says if you intend to stay more than 6 months the test is mandatory, we don't but as the visa is valid for more than 6 months  looks like she will need it.

    Thanks for your comments.

  12. Just printing out the bar coded pages for the my wife UK visa application and realized i had forgotten about the TB certificate, it seems there is only one medical centre  in Thailand thats acceptable, has anyone done this recently? Its hard to believe they wont accept a certificate from an international hospital.
