I see his face in the mirror of the car before he make the turn, and I had a "feeling" of what he was up to! I hit the brake, but he hit my front weel. I did not fall of, but it was close!

RIP to this guy. I don't know the circumstances but it seems like he was no idiot when it comes to bikes.

Reading your post go me thinking but I'm not sure exactly what you mean but it looks very similar to something that's happened to me on a few occasions except I'm not the one on a bike.

If I'm reading it right the pick up turned right into your path as your went past him on the right. Was he indicating that he was turning right? The reason I ask is because the entrance to my driveway is on the right and is not very clear plus it is slightly more than a right angle so I need to keep to the left to make the turn. It's a not very wide rural road. On a few occasions I've indicated that I intend to turn right as there is a bike behind me which then speeds past me. Members of my family have seen this and think it's crazy. It's happened to my Thai brother in law and to a English friend as well. In that case there were 2 cars as both my friends turned up at the same time and the one in front couldn't see the bike which was behind the second car.

So far there's been no accident but I'm certain there will be at some time. I don't know if this is the same as the experience you were describing but I would like to know if this is normal as I'm sure there will be a death or injury at some point even though I'm aware of this now and I'm ready for it.

This driver try to get me killed for sure. The left turn before this, he cut in to the left and was just a few inches from my right handle. There is a lot that don't like big bikes, here as well in our countrys. But here they can kill you and get away with it!

When the locals want to turn right, most of them stay on the left side, and then, they make the turn. Some time I also do this, because I feel the traffic be to heavy to stay in the middle of the road waiting for all the crazy f.. pass you on the inside and outside of you!

3 of my neighbour has big dogs. German shephard and some bastards. Only ONE of the owners is in control of the dog. If some of the others get out from the gate, they will attac and kill everybody they se! We have a 3 year old boy, that one day playing close to my neighbor fence, when the dogs attac! This is just a simple bamboo fence with wire. If he had his hand in that fence, the hand would be eaten. There is bad dogs, but far mor bad dog owners. If some of this dogs attac anyone in my family, I go for the leader of the pack first, wich is the owner!

My wife got a letter from the tax office to pay a visit to morrow. The can not see that she has pay the tax on the lease amount. On the contract I pay the lease (rent) for 30 years all at once. She thinks the tax is 5%. We pay some tax at the land office when purchase the land, but that is presumable an other tax.

Has anyone else been demand to pay this? It is 4 years since we put up the lease.

24th of September I sighn a contract on a new Nissan Navara Calibre 4x2 auto. This was a Limited Version, only 200 build. I want the car to morrow, when I return from work offshore. 3 days ago, they phone my wife, and tell her "solly, no car". They had non left of this model. I thold the manager the day I order the car, that he must order it ASAP, so I'm sure to get it. No ploblem he say. 2 weeks ago, they had a similar car for some show. My wife ask if this was our car, but they say no, but will come soon. This is the dealer in Krabi. I don't know what to do, but I like to take this matter as far as I can. What likly happen, is that some Thai friend of the manager get the car instead of me.

3 kilos average? Where you get this from?? A 3 kilo baby in NORTHERN Europe is wery small I think. My wife will have a baby boy born with C section next Wednesday at Bankok Hospital, Phuket. She is 150 cm tall and 37 years old. I am 177 and 82 kilo, so not over the average Falang size I think. The baby is approx 4 kilo at this moment, so for shure, C section is the only option. The doctor say that this in common practise when the father is Falang, because the babys weight is normaly between 2.6 to 4.0 Kilo. And that a normal birth takes more hospital time than C section is not true. My wife will spend 5 nights and 4 days there. Thats the minimum.

Just renewed my TDL today at Phahonyothin office (opposite chatuchak market).

I had my original license a year ago on a non-B visa, but this time I was on a Tourist Visa (30 days stamp) because my non-B had just expired the week before. The lady at counter 17 denied me for a 5 year but said she could give me a 1 year again, renewable next year for 5y with a work permit or non-B visa (or other visa I don't know as i'm not concerned).

The list of requirements for this office to renew for a 5 year license is :

-Passeport + copy of all relevant pages with visa non-immigrant or WP +certificate of residency from embassy(or from immi) if no WP

-Medical certificate

-Old license

Then pass the stupid color and reaction tests again and you're done.

I'm up for 3 hours of joy again next year =]

That's really good to hear that you are still able to renew the license on a tourist visa for 1 year, despite being denied the 5 year one. I heard many same stories like yours and you are one of the few to come out and share it. Thanks!

P.S looks like the Phahonyothin transport office ain't that stingy stringent afterall

When I try to renew my driving license for 5 years, they give me one for 1 year only. And I had to do the whole test. Classrom, driving test etc. because I only hold tourist visa. Did not help that I am married and live here.(Working abroad). But now I have the Yellow house book, so I se what happen next year.

I have a International licence, and that is valid for 6 month every time I arrive, so I still a legal driver. But the rules changes with the person behind the counter!

Can u tell us where is this driving centre pls?

This was in Krabi, but I guess all city and province has one. They have one for car and one for motorbike. (I was terrified when I was back in traffic, when I se that this incompetent "drivers" drove off with a licence!)

Had a 2002 mod Frontier a few years.Strong car. Now order a new Navara LE Calibre White Pearl (Limited Version) 4 door, 2WD Auto. Have all the "goodies" I need at the moment. My builder have own many Nissan, and he is very happy with them. He drive 200km / day. Full loaded with tiles, cement etc.

Hi. Just order a new car, and want it my name. But now I am not sure about this. Some of my friends say that I will pay more if something happens. The garage will charge me more. the insurance company will not pay out so easy if I had an accident etc. I am married and don't need to reg. the car in my name because I am "afraid" of loosing it, it's just a "man" thing.

Funny I hadn't had any problems or had to use any medication for over four yrs, but when the rainy season began this year ssymptoms onceagain aappearedI really never had Asthma until I quit smoking in Jan 2005.

Don't worry! you can get it easy over-the-counter in most farmacy. I use the Symbicort Turbohaler. In my home country this is on prescription and expencive. I buy the one with 60 doses due to the humidity here. Use to leave it at home and bring with me one Ventolin Evohaler when running, shopping, with the wife!
