  1. Well, try going to the one in Chalong, food and service taken a steep nose dive lately, know of at least 3 people that don't go in there because of service.

After not going in for some months i thought i would try again last week,(the place was empty at lunch time) first the order for food could not be cooked because the waitress could not log on? then we had to wait longer than the whole meal took to cook and eat to get the bill, when it came it was wrong.

Sorry maybe i will try again next year.

  2. Call 081-4152701. His name is Oo-ten. Installed my system 12 years ago and has maintained it since.

If the number doesn't work (it's old and I'm offshore), go to Chalong circle. 50 metres on the east side of Chao Fah East Road, you will see Bangkok Bank. There is a wide alley between Bagkok Bank and another bank that is used to park motorbikes. At the end of that is Oo-tens place of several rai of nursery plants. Oo-ten speaks reasonable English. His sister is at the place above and you will need a Thai speaker.

Great! thanks for that, is he familiar with the Hunter range?

  3. why not use the xtremely cheap pvc sprinklersystems, good for 5-10 years in the sun, plenty of brand names, not much difference in quality

Because i have a very large area with 6 different zones connected to 6 different solenoids and a 2 hp pump that works just great, not the usual cheap garden setup.

  4. Gotta add a restaurant to the list.

Phuket town next to robinson going towards the bus station. On the right theres a 2 shophouse restaurant all open. cant miss it. Looks like regular food but unlike most of these restaurants, the food was really tasty and not made to make a quick buck. English menues and as many thais as tourists. Very very surprised.

I know the one, it is called "Up town" or something like that, noodles are good, any thing else just ok, dont go at luch time if you are a Ferang and want something different off the menu as you will get served last, but worth a visit any other time.

  5. Developed palate, i can taste it. Also my toilet's brush was full of it as a proof.

Pasta cooked in thai tap water always give me a VERY peculiar feeling in the stomach. A feeling of non-fullness yet i am not hungry. That is the only way i can describe it.

I felt it once with their pasta and then an other time with their soup. Not going back there again untill they abide by basic hygienic rules, its sad though because the other aspect of the business is great

Wow, luckly i have no such problems with my stomach and i actually wrote the report as it was one of the very few resterants in Chalong that i have visited a few times and never had any problems.

  6. The new Italian place on the new Fishamansway business garden is excellent, many different pastas, i have tried 3 of them already .......... all good, wood fired pizza oven, bread basket with meal, very nice decor, well worth a visit.

they use tap water for cooking though.

Dont tell me you are the Chef?

  8. Brian is sorting through the nightmare of red tape now.

I will keep you guys informed as to when the funeral will be.

At the moment we think it will be Rawai Crematorium and then a wake at Tamarind bar.

Food etc will be laid on and I suppose we will have to drink bloody mary's or a wee dram or two in his honour.

    Stu

Does anyone have a picture to post of Dr. Ian in happier times.

  9. Has anyone tried the new lakeside restaurant next to Chalong temple? (on the road that connects the two chaofa roads)

Yes, found the food good and inexpensive, i think my Kaprow Moo was 48thb.

It's unfortunate that the food selection doesn't match the ambience of the place itself. Very limited menu choice, even from the 'fast food' bar inside. The location and quality of the place deserves better. Drinks are expensive (90 baht for a small Singha isn't the norm in 'local' restaurants).

I had a very nice Lemon shake 48thb

  11. These guys probably had the YFT & DTT at Burma Banks long way off shore with no cover if the weather kicks up, so only Feb - March, there is jigging to be had in the Similan islands with a surprising amount of fish but you need to be good at it and be able to speed jig all day long in the blistering heat, not many people can do this, the people in the TV programs are pro's and used to it.

Fishing in Phuket is best August - December last year we had a big Sailfish run, i caught 6 in 2 hours one day and had many triple hookups.

  12. After all the good reviews of the "Family" my wife and I had lunch there yesterday. I had fish and chips. The longest french fry was about one and a half inches long. The rest were real greasy and tiny...I was really hoping for a real shwarma with a mix of lamb and other meats. Nope just a few pieces of chicken and tons of lettuce and very little of the special white sauce that helps to make a good shwarma. With all the hoopla over this restaurant I will give it another try thinking our visit was just a one off.

Been there twice and that was enough, one of the worst meals i have experienced on the island.

  13. Captain hooks near ninas car rentals and sailor restaraunt in chalong beats fatty's hands down!

what do you recommend for food there? large portions?

I can also recomend "Captain Hook" very consistant quality helpings not as big as Fattys but quality better, Tamarind bar further down the road on the water front also very good,

  14. Wow... Maybe I should have pointed out that the food part was a joke  . On a more serious note, I do tend to get 35% off the "rack rate" of hotels when I ask, so I am wondering what the experience is on monthly rooms.

My advice is try Pattaya, it's cheaper.

  15. No handouts? I find it difficult to have sympathy for people who travel without money or other resources such as a credit card or someone at home who can wire them money. I flew in from Singapore on Thursday and most of the "tourists" I saw sleeping in the airport or walking aimlessly around looked like low class trashy types who spent all their money while on the other side of the World, the same type of alcoholic sex tourists who ruin Songkran in Pattaya with their drunken low life behavior. Running out of money far from home is not a very intelligent thing to do. The "danger" in Bangkok is also greatly exaggerated since the confrontation is happening in a very small part of a large city. When the EU comes up with silly laws requiring airlines to reimburse passengers for incidents which are not the airlines fault, such at this, it only drives up the cost of travel. Also the sad reality of business is that there is little reason for the airlines to show "loyalty" to these economy class passengers since most will fly any carrier that happens to have the cheapest price on the day they want to go.

Couldnt agree more, too many people expect hand outs for nothing.
