Local Thais don't tip. It's not a local custom.

But if you're in a tourist place, like St. Pattayasburg or Phuketski the locals do expect tourists to tip. Or like it or something.

But since Chinese never tip, you're on the safe side if you don't tip.

    Phuketski made me lol

  2. “The good old days” when I also worked in ME on rotation and came in and out 5 or 6 times a year.  Even overstays were no big deal as I just paid the fine at departure.   Around 2010, immigration would didn’t like the large number of ‘visa exempt’ stamps so I started getting a tourist visa before I came.
I understand getting the you visa isn’t always an option but that was my experience.

I was turned away at Emirates checkin in Bahrain flying to Thailand via Dubai. USA passport had less than 6 months validity.

Emirates staff at the check in desk refused to let me fly.

Wow, I am sorry to hear that this has happened to you... I would (of course) Not want this to happen to me (who would)... Would be quite "inconvenient" (to say it mildly). May I ask what you did do then... ?

My case is a bit different than most (but then again, most everybody has a unique story and reason "why things are the way that they are").

In my case I would have enough time to apply for a new passport, through my embassy, in the country where I am at (until my flight takes place), which is in the Philippines.

BUT - for some important reasons - I will need a passport that has actually been issued in the country of my origin.  (Which in this case IS visible in the passport itself, it is stated there, WHERE it has been issued).

(To not prolong this here any further, I will leave it at this for now).

In my case, I went back to Saudi and obtained a new US Passport from the Embassy. It only took a few days.

The phone call from Manila SBU only takes about 10 minutes or so and they just ask questions to verify that it is really you. I was also instructed to fill out and submit an application for a new SS card although I still had the card I was issued some time back in the 1960s.

My benefits started within a month or two and for some reason I also received about three months' backdated payments even though I did not request it.

    This was six years go.

    That sounds outstanding ! Thanks

  5. I applied for US Social Security benefits back in September.  I followed progress on the SS website and everything seemed normal.  I got to the last step and nothing was happening.  I enquired as to further progress on the Help area and a few days later I got an email from them saying they wanted to do a phone interview.  It’s been scheduled for next month.

my question is has anyone else gone through this phone interview. I assume it’s to ensure I’m actually a human and not scamming the system ?

  6. I own a 2018 Toyota CH-R with 'Nostra Digital Maps' for GPS. The maps are way out of date. I've asked Toyota and about updates for a while and finally was told Nostra no longer supports this option. The Nostra site wasn't very helpful.

Has anyone experienced this issue and found a solution ?

Please don't tell me to  "just use your phone".

    Thanks

  7. I recently got a new USA Passport and need to get stamps, etc, moved into it by Immigration .

Besides both passports (old and new), copies and letter from Embassy, what else is required by Immigration to complete this task ? Is there a form to complete ?

    Thanks
