  1. I think Jimmy's Lighthouse will always be a cool place to go without the bar girl nagging you about buying them another dink. Why is there so many negative vibs on the new owner? Lets give them a chance. I gave many a chance to rent it while I had it. I hope they do well and the repairs and redo look really good and I think they have done many improvements to the place. What they pay for rent or anything doesn't matter does it. They are doing something with their lives which is alot more than some here in Phuket. I have never seen a bunch of losers that now invade our lives now in Phuket. These guys seem good to me and you should go over and wish them luck too.

I for one wish them the best of luck.

    Kind Regards,

    Jimmy Lighthouse

  2. Does anyone know the owner or contact info for the Han Christen boat that is Anchored North of Ao Po. It looks like it has been neglected and abandoned. Can anyone tell me if it is for sale or an e-mail to contact with the owner? At the right price I will buy it.

  3. I just wanted to thank everyone, and I did find the newimmigration and they were friendly but couldn't help me with my wife signed IDcard and owner of the land copy signed with the residence paper you need for adriving license. To Krabi immigration everything must be done in Phuket. Thetransportation department wanted to help but because Krabi Immigration wouldgive me the residence slip they couldn't help me either. Both departments werevery nice to me but I tell you this red tape BS will be the down fall of countriesif they don't correct the old ways of thinking.

  4. The Phuket Gazette ii a monopoly as far as advertising goes in Phuket

When we advertised to buy a house we put regular adds in and they told me

i was not a private buyer and wanted to charge me

They are also very selective in who they allow to respond to the articles in there paper

An example is when they closed the main road over the hill to patong for repairs

My suggestion was do it in the middle hours of the night with 2 lollipop men

controlling the traffic with two-way radios and flood light the work

Of coarse it was never posted

I have heard things like this before and can only think that they are maybearrogant or too big. Listen it's not a lot of money but living here 35 yearsyou would think I know what I am doing here but every time I go to PG I am afarang to them I guess, hey I guess it tourist season.

  5. Today I asked to put in an on-line (only) ad today because the original I put in with them was about 30 days old so as to freshen up to the front of the queue, I thought to repay my ad 600bt again to put it on-line fresh. This time I was told that the Gazette ad would cost me1580bt online which I categorically said I only wanted on-line not newspaper ad.They told me now it will be in both (on-line with 1 picture). Again I went through the explaining about only on-line not newspaper which they were very nice and helpful saying it was in both and the price would be the same even if they canceled the newspaper part of it. From one month it went from 600bt to 1580bt. has anyone else had a problem like mine?

I use ThaiVisa too which is free or a small price to upgrade. They have aThaiVisa sign on their marquee which they have told me at another visit that it is not the place for ThaiVisa ads. Then where is it? Can you tell me? They said it was not in their building, are they right? Anyway I would like to know if anyone else has had problems with that newspaper.

  7. Hi,

I just paid a customs fee for two speakers from USA. I paid the actual price of $1000 each so I declared 1000 each for which I was charged 30% tax plus 7%VAT. You work it out, I was charged almost 38,000bt. total fee. They told me that because in was a little heavy they think that I was also charged (F) rate too. I then asked what was 'F' rate which they replied in Bangkok was a face charge. I still don't know what this means but the 'F' to me means Farang rate.

Don't import anything, get it here it will be much cheaper.

  8. How about the Non Thai idiots that sold up or moved to live there ,as Ex-Pats... actually believing they belong in Thailand....and can own FREEHOLD land/property there...paying the extortionate prices charged.

That must be in the top five.

  9. Some people take the word of other people and it was wrong for him to get the number and then not ring, your right it's not the 100bt, and the more you know people the more you will like dogs and horses

I'm a bit confused here. You make it sound like this was a scam and that he does this repeatedly. Is that what you think is the case?

If not, you just leant someone 100Bt and didn't get it back, that's very different. I'm not excusing his behaviour, but I think you're over playing this a bit, If I decided to hand that money over, which given what you said, I may well have, I would be about 80% sure I would never see it again, and I would be giving him it, with that in mind.

I'm sorry, but if you're telling me that things are that tight for you, then you should have stuck by your guns and said no.

P.S Fair play to you 'Old Croc', very decent of you.

  10. There is a "Consumer Protection" office of some sort in Phuket Provincial Hall. But, I suspect they only consider grievances over the sale of goods and services from shops etc.

Yours seems more of a commercial contract. As such I believe it would fall within Contract Law, or maybe Law of Tort, depending on the circumstances.

Is there anything in the contract which states that ownership title to "raw materials" remains with you, until they have been converted into the finished article? Eg, wood planks, that would later become a boat.

Sadly, it looks like a legal case, and you know what that means.

Yes, it states the material is bought by me and labor supplied by the contractor, maybe I can reason with that. The problem is that sometimes the guy (after) the fact only hears does what he wants to do and only hears what he is willing to hear. I feel as though I have done something wrong but I have done nothing wrong except had him my ATM card and give him my PIN number and disappear. I thought these things happened only to 'Bar Girls'

  11. What can a person do that has a written contract with building contractor with part of a boat structure that has run way beyond the due date we had several times, myself not being angry or mad, just want it done, can I go to an Ombudsman or out of court arbitrator for help because this guy just lies and is holding my advanced payment with the material I have bought for him, I guess of extorting more money out of me which I would pay but a deal is a deal which an expensive estimate was given. The guy just gets Nationalistic and refuses the schedule in the contract or even work on my project. Is there any government agency to help with the negotiations or have I lost a big chunk of money? I have never raised my voice or made him lose face. I am in Phuket. I don't really want to go to court or get this guy in trouble but what can I do? Help please

  12. I hear what you are saying, good quality but I just won't pay that much for a sandwich in Thailand.

Why should good sandwich (Western quality bread, meat, and fillers) cost less to make in Thailand than "back home"? If anything, it most likely should cost more...the meat often has to be imported and the bread bought in small quantities from local bakers (again maybe using imported ingredients). Sure rents and labour may be cheaper in Thailand but this doesn't always make up for the cost of the imported imputs.

  13. I do not know him but have copied this to someone I know in the NZ embassy in Bangkok.

Yes it is Chris B. he has been ill for some time. He needs help but doesn’t want any. He has a Chalong Police cop looking after him. He is penniless but I think we should help him. I don't think he is that old, maybe 65. The cop contacted the NZ Embassy but they said they could only help if he was dead. Come on NZ.

    I wish him well.

  14. The school is just okay.

My kid has been there 3 years and the school is normal, a 5 out of 10 stars for me. The parking sucks and is very dangerous to enter or exit, they need a over head foot bridge to the school so some parents don't even have to go in the school with the car. Also no football field or swimming pool to teach kids sports or how to swim.
