  1. I think when this is almost all over you will see the sudden rise of Government owned casinos. The law will be changed to allow this and the Chinese will be allowed in visa free.If anyone will travel to gamble it is the Chinese.Look at Macau !

  2. The value of the vouchers is exactly the same as the price you paid for the original ticket and this will be offset against any future purchase. It It is as simple as that.If you paid £500 for your ticket, thats the value of the ticket.

  3. Most people in Europe book a long distance holiday 3/6 months ahead. Those that are here now, probably booked before this virus was even thought of.It  The numbers that are thinking of booking for the June /July/August period are the ones that will probably alter their plans if they were going to go to Thailand(or anywhere in the area). That is when the numbers will show a real difference.

  4. Every time I come into swampy,I have had to stand behind at least five people waiting to get a sim card(AIS True etc all the same).I use the same flight,so I arrive at the same time every time.Last time I arrived, walked straight up no waiting.I think as I passed the three suppliers there must have been a maximum of three customers in total.Make of that what you will

    Excellent, thanks for that.

    Did you go to Pilok?

Sent from my iPhone using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

No we had a four day trip from Pattaya,Kanchanaburi,Mon Village and ending up seeing family in Nakhon Sawan. That was enough driving for me.The drive from Kanchaburi to Mon through the mountains was spectacular, apart from the Thai drivers who have no idea how to drive in those conditions, saw about six four by fours who had failed to take the bends at the correct speed.

  6. Well worth it,accommodation is a bit expensive by Thai standards and the breakfasts do not cater for non Thais. You have to get up about 5.30am for the monk alms ceremony .The scenery is breathtaking, especially at sunset. It is 98% Thai people very few farangs.

Dont bother with the river trip to see the "sunken" temple. There are two nice temples on the Mon side of the bridge.Easy to drive to.

The evening market on the Thai side(about 1km from the bridge)is about 90% food and is very good and cheap.

Be aware, the only 7/11 by the market does not sell alcohol because it is near a school but they will tell you where the hole in the wall shops do sell it.

If you are thinking about a side trip to the Three Pagoda pass, dont bother, its three, metre or so concrete pagodas with some tatty market stalls selling tat and fake whiskey.from Myanmar

  7. There is a report in a certain newspaper(that we are not allowed to quote from)That a Thai Airways flight attendant was suspected of smuggling e cigs into the country.

The amazing thing about this story was that the airport were tipped off about this and xrayed all cabin staff bags and found nothing.

However,a bag containing "a lot" of e cigs and cartridges was found in a bag left on a crew shuttle bus.

So obviously someone was able to smuggle something through customs even when customs knew they were coming and what to look for.

Give you confidence in their ability ,not only were they told about it, and what it was, they still could not find anything.

will not be allowed to import/export these items into/out of Thailand whether personal use or commerce.

Did not notice that in the OP, makes it clear what the situation is.Not for me to argue with their rules. Just thought that as you do not go through customs on your way out, what would happen?

  9. Just looking at the e cig situation from another side.

Possible situation.I do not import an e cig but when I am in Thailand I buy one from the local market.Going home I arrive at the airport and at security the metal detector or x ray show the e cig in my hand luggage.Perfectly legal to take on plane(subject to rules battery etc), I am going through security not customs and if anything I am exporting the e cig.

Anyone encountered this? am I breaking any laws? can security do anything because as far as I can see the rules are only about importing or using. My interpretation of the rules is that it is illegal to import or use nothing about carrying or owning.

  10. I remember in the Grand Bazaar Istanbul many years ago on buying a watch, told  not a copy, but genuine  imitation.Still trying to work that one out.

At the same time, the seller noticing I was wearing the latest edition SWATCH, asked, if he could borrow it for one hour and if he could I could have any watch on his stall for free.Draw your own conclusions as to why he wanted to "borrow" it.

  11. Back in the days(it may still exist) there was a whole group of people who produced software programmes for personal computers. They offered these to the public free of charge, i think it was called shareware,.They asked if you found the programme useful to make a contribution if you did not contribute you could still use the software.Totally up to you.I think the YT is exactly the same thing, so it is nothing new.

  12. Reported in Pattaya One(not sure of original source)

A Thai court of appeals has dismissed criminal defamation charges against a British labour rights activist who was sued by a fruit packaging company after he alleged human rights violations at its factory.

  13. Just to clarify, I would have no intention of demanding anything, I have been coming to LOS for long enough to know how it works. In any "confrontation" I would yes sir no sir etc but I am dammed if I am going to volunteer details about my financial affairs just because its asked for on a form. That is why I tick two or three boxes, then no one can say I refused to provide the information.

  14. The Daily Mail online(obviously cannot link here) has again raised the issues of the number of unexplained deaths of British Teenagers in Thailand and the inaction of the RTP.A group of mothers has formed (MAMA Mothers against Murder Abroad) aimed to put pressure on the Home Office regarding the matter. Interestingly, it says one of the main signatories of a petition to Downing Street is Laura Witheridge  sister of Hannah murdered on Koh Tao.

  15. I can live with most things in Thailand, but the main issue that prevents me making it my permanent home is the total inconsistency regarding the attitude to rules and the law.

It seems that the interpretation of the law and regulations is totally up to the person you are dealing with and a government that passes a law ten years ago but only decides to enforce it now.

Go to one province and you have to register your stay, carry your passport etc go somewhere else and it’s a different set of rules.Go to one branch of a bank to do something,”cannot” go to another branch of the same bank,”no problem”.

Immigration here want this piece of paper ,next month it is a different one, go to another office, they want a whole different set of papers.

Traffic rules, today they are enforced tomorrow they are not, again travel around the country and they change from place to place

I have no problem in the Thai laws and regulations,it is their country and wherever I live I try to be law abiding.

But there is no straight forward answer to “what is the law regarding this” or what are the rules for that”, it changes from day to day and where you are.
