  1. Ban, ban, ban. Ban this, ban that, ban the other. It's a global epidemic. Won't be too long before they run out of stuff to ban, and nobody will be able to do anything, anytime, anywhere.

What is it with these people?

I Live in Chiang Mai Saraphi. Along the highway it is packed with karaokes many of them with roadside bars. Do thy have to close all business cheesy.gif you think they will ?? It's a part of the Thai culture.wai2.gif

  2. ermm... not sure

but for the limited stock that they do have... better than driving into town.

I understand that Kad F arang is undergoing a major revamp and Rimping will go.

I understand that Kad Farang is breathing its last breath. Lost count of the number of businesses opened and closed there. Why ask us anyway? Ask Khun Phairoj (that's how he spells it), the MD. He's charming and straightforward, with fluent English, and accessible by writing out one of those little slips near the cashiers.

Expected this already many years ago. The rental prices for the shops use to be skyrocket high whille the landlord does not seem to be very reliable. From this landlord I would not even rent for free. 100 % unreliable !! Stay away from there.

  3. The 'other' one is Welcome Restaurant/Bar

Run by a very pleasant Dutch guy named Ben

    Food good, service great wink.png

This area is just getting better and better, and so friendly smile.png

    David

What sort of food does Ben/Welcome Restaurant provide?

A mix of Thai and Western!

An exelent mix of Thai and Western food, relaxed place, bar outside along the road, very good service. The owner is an experienced Dutch cook.

  4. It includes PSA prostate cancer test.

I use to do the health rest once a year at Ratjave. Last time they found a too high PSA level.

They sent me to the urologist in Sripat.

    Conclusion Prostate cancer confirmed.

  5. To get back to the OP it is a sad life when one beer can make that much difference.

He just feels peeved - I guess we all have our moments.....he had two close together.

Still, I guess he drank the beer, so nothing really lost.........just don't talk to strangers. ph34r.gif

My god, your picture tells more about you than a thousand words. You really put your nose in each and every post. Nothing else to do...

ugly-birds.gif Thanks for your always great and very interesting information and comments. Never too old to learn so I expect you to be Rudy supervisor soon. Talk to him he will not refuse your offer. That was it all. Cheers.

  6. Should we make a fundraising to the OP?

Not sure if that is needed. I think he is just disapointed that what had been his safe reliable place where he did not have to count his change is no more. Staff leaving do upset customers.

Thanks for your understanding, you are totally right. A place where you can go to the toilet while leave your wallet and

mobile phone on the bar. ( I will do nowhere but you can) A place where the owner is for more then a 100 % reliable and an excellent host as well. You can sit relaxed and I indeed never check my final bill.

In this special case I very well knew the moment I order my 3 rd beer there where 2 marks on the bar receipt only.

When I paid the bill it turned into 4 marks , black magic :(.

I certainly had reasons for complaints over the past 5 years. At Rudy's place especially I hate to complain and for the better understanding, certainly not for a 65 Thb bottle of beer.

What happened right now was ,,a bridge too far,, and has everything to do with the service provided.

By the way, the guy that bought me the drink is an American army pensioner, certainly not a freeloader.

  7. For more than five years I frequently visit the Gekko Garden CM.

I remember how the owner struggled with his staff members from the very first day on.

He very quick found out that reliable staff is hard to find and he had to go through an awfully lot of problems. Thieving related mostly.

He never hanged down his head and after all the troubles he went through he finally got the kind of reliable staff he deserves.

A few weeks ago one of his best staff members together with her husband left the Gekko Garden for an adventure in the Middle East and the Gekko Garden owner appointed new staff member.

A week ago I visited the Gekko Garden as I usually do a few times a week.

I had an amusing conversation with an American man sitting next to me at the bar.

He offered me a large beer and ordered a small beer for himself.

Before he finished his small beer he left the bar. I had the impression that he did not feel good.

I finished bottle he bought me.

I already bought myself two bottles and ordered another bottle to complete my 3 bottles promotion.

When I asked for the bill the new staff member showed to my utter surprise up with a bill calling for 4 bottles.

I remembered her on the fact that one bottle was not ordered by me but by the man next to me.

This bottle was even ordered with her. What ever I tried she refused to accept my explanation and insisted with an unseen brutal behavior. So every one around got the impression that I tried to get away without paying a bottle of beer. I tried once again to explain her. She went to talk the other staff members and approached me in an even more brutal way keeping on pointing her finger to the amount on my bill.

I loosed my patience so much st……ty and I was hardly able to keep myself quite and in balance. Finally I paid the full amount as printed on the bill.

As she behaved herself like a lady to me, so when I left I behaved myself like a gentleman thanking her for the rip off and said goodbye wishing her a great day..:bah:

One sitting on the bar stool in front of the bar does mean to be to be a decent customer friendly staff member behind the bar.

    Be prepared.

For the two Burmese staff members' thumbs up.

  8. Buckaroo's got it.

My boyfriend and I were in bed one night, fully clothed, just chatting. His eyes got very big all of a sudden and he stood up slowly and said 'Dakab.' He then proceeded to shake his t-shirt and one of these bad boys fell out.

Took us a good 30 minutes to usher it out of the house (very Thai style housing, we had had a few wandering around before but never in our clothing!). We have a no kill policy, just took it away from the house to an open field.

To each their own but to me there is something exceptionally sexy about a guy who can calmly react to having one of these in his shirt and then usher it out without breaking a sweat.

No bites, must have smelled his sexy karma.

When I first arrived I also woke up to one of these mothers crawling up my inner thigh. This was before I ever knew they existed. I went from sleeping to standing like a freaking ninja.

Took me a good hour to usher it out of the house but there was no way I was carrying it down the street in the dead of night.

After battling it for an hour, and getting the shock of my life I barely got any sleep that night.

As I set off to work in the morning I saw it in the street flattened by a motorbike. Effort wasted! Gave me a good chance to inspect the under claws though. Thanked my lucky stars it didn't sink those into me!

Two personal stories that I think are fun and part of the joys of Thailand.

(Again, to each their own. If you have kids, or no field, or you just feel okay about killing them, that is fine by me. Just sharing some stories!)

  9. There used to be a specialist clothing shop (name not known) for fat oversized people on the ground floor of the Airport Plaza near to the Tops supermarket.

This is not one of those export/import places. This was about a year ago, not sure if it is still there. Worth a look if you do visit the Airport Plaza.

My advice is, avoid those export/import clothing shops, the goods are total crap.

They don`t wash very well, the color comes out and they shrink on the first go.

YES INDEED IT'S STILL THERE VERY BIG SIZES AND REASONABLE PRICES. :D

  10. No, you'll have to do that in Bangkok. See here.
