Is it any different than a wealthy sugar daddy in a western country having a blonde bimbo as his arm candy, buying her expensive gifts and paying her rent? You don't think old Hugh Hefner (when he was alive) was bonking all those stunners for free?

The difference is the sugar daddy is well aware that the arm candy is there for the money and not love. Also this bloke probably can't afford her.

I for one do not believe those figures based on my experiences whilst living in Thailand and dealing with Thais.

    Fickle nation.

I was previously employed within the Thai education system and to my astonishment ordered to lie about exam pass marks by giving a higher preset percentage score regardless of a students ability!!!

Things are and do get exaggerated, being altered to fit the need as is the case when shopping. It is part of the culture to lie.

Just talking to Thais as well as long term ex pats paints a very different picture for me.

They use the word visitors, but how is that defined?

    Business?

    Family?

    Transit?

    Tourist?

Do those visitors spend money or simply arrive on package deals?

It is all well and good to blow a trumpet, but it depends on how good the sound is...

I ate 10 meals today, but what did I eat... 10 peanuts!!

Why have so many bars etc.. closed?

Why do so many Thais complain that tourism is down and that work is hard to find?

The word on the street is a far cry from the usual propaganda BS.

I've been seeing such complaints since 2014 and the bungling of the murder investigation, and yet there is no collapse of the tourism industry, and the current account numbers of the national bank keep going up and up.

Makes you wonder what kind of people does the complaining.

That is a laughable piece of philosophy on your behalf.

The poll shows that less westerners are coming to Thailand.

Why is that is the question you should ask.

Tourism in the west is skyrocketing.

Westerners are giving corrupt autocratic countries the flick.

And why should anyone care when revenues are up?

This behaviour is what makes Thailand a destination to be avoided, so upsetting someone that's a local is putting yourself at risk ............ sadly, it's pretty common for tempers to flare over minor incidents or misunderstandings. Any dispute with a local will attract a crowd, which eventually ends up with the mob attacking you. It's definitely "one sided' & it's the "mindset" here that's the problem ......... any argument with a local will always end with you in trouble. Don't think for one moment you will be treated fairly ............ just walk away & do not retaliate. It's the worst situation you can place yourself in here ........ I love the place don't get me wrong, but I wish that "farangs" were treated better ............ here's wishing eh?

I disagree, given how much flak this guy is getting in thai media. literally no one is supporting him.

    Yes, it happens.

In Bali, it is virtually a sector of the economy. More often, the Western woman sends funds from abroad and visits 2 or 3 times a year rather than work in the South East Asian country. They frantically try to arrange visit visas to the Western country which are usually rejected. But I have also met and worked with Western women with broke Thai boyfriends in Bangkok.

    Definitely happens.

Where do I meet these women, and how important is my ability to do muay thai/scuba dive/swallow fire? ...asking for a friend

    You are probably right but....

you seem to be unaware of the Southern Beach Bum set-up (guitar is the essential prop). Lots of farang women meet South East Asian guys on the beaches. It is usually Indonesia but in Thailand Samui, Krabi and Phangan also common. The guy is typically broke and the farang woman, initially here on holiday, has funds and earning potential.

    So could be possible.

Does this actually happen? I've met up with a few white 'teachers' in Bangkok and have asked them about it and it seems to not happen all that often - the poor accents are too much of a distraction and besides white girls <30 seem to not date Asians as a rule...

  7. I have two Thai friends who own restaurants in the UK. The best Thai food they serve is the food they cook for themselves after the place is shut. Half the stuff they eat simply wouldn't sell if it were put on the menu..

Oh god, what are they called and are they in London?? I am dying for some authentic thai food and not all this British-fusion crap where everything is unsalted, the texture is terrible and 2 chilies means its too spicy. I swear if I can collect all the tears I shed when my green curry is served with bamboo shoots AND NO EGGPLANT I could make another lake Michigan in the sahara desert...

  8. Never mind boiling water - this whole farcical debacle makes my blood boil.

There is SO much evidence to suggest that these 2 migrant workers are NOT the killers, that I'm surprised that some international agency hasn't stepped in to set this to rights.

However - the DNA samples will have been tampered with by now - there's probably no real way of getting things verified properly.

Oh God in heaven above - please bring justice to this case - expose the truth and in the process, please help Thailand to WAKE THE HECK UP!!!!!!!!!!

If you commit a crime, you must pay the consequences. You may think you can escape scot-free right now - but believe you me, it will always come around in the end.

But hey - the Thai's know that, right?

They're Buddhist, so they must. They live by the laws of Karma, which they believe in stoically, right?

Someone? Anyone? Please tell me I'm right??!

Many thais I talk to don't believe for a single second the police's line. But they also don't believe in wrecking the country's reputation further by speaking up about it. IIRC a newspaper predicted that the police would find some convenient scapegoat.

  9. This happends every day day in every country, so what is the big news. Except time for thai bashing.

No it doesn't. For example, the incidence of foreign tourists being raped in London, a city of 13 million residents with 15 million tourists visiting each year, is very rare.

Whereas any Western woman who drinks too much on holiday in Thailand is liable to be violently raped - murdered if they resist - by Thai men who can't 'resist their beauty'. And these rapists know that even if the victim has the courage to report the crime if they plead guilty the sentence will be laughably light.

Western embassies have a duty to warn women about the very real dangers in visiting Thailand, which far from being the Land of Smiles is now a lawless, corrupt state with racist mysoginistic attitudes towards Western women and is undeserving of their tourism.

And yet another loser who has never been to thailand thinks he can comment on the topic based on what he read online. Please get a life.

  10. There's a lot of smart guys and Thai-experienced guys on TVF. It wouldn't hurt to form a committee to accept our own lot of suggestions and refine them down to form a bullet-point petition of ideas to correct the main issues, and present it to Gen. Prayuth.

I know the nay-sayers will be all "He'll never listen to farangs", and "We'd never get a consensus", however, to the first point I'd say that 1. It's worth a try, 2. If you don't try you will certainly not succeed, 3. Gen. Prayuth appears to be actually quite worldly in his approach and has been quite "unThai" at times, and 4. The General is smart enough to know that although not part of the electorate, the condensed views of tens of thousands of worldly and Thai-experienced people is worth a read, and to the second obstacle, well, that's why there's a committee, to find a consensus on the issues.

Maybe a special TVF subforum to accept suggestions and nominations for committee members? A subforum strictly only for submissions, with no replies, quotes or debate.....the committee do the debating based on the submissions. After submissions close, the forum is view-only to non committee members while the committee debate publicly.

Even if it doesn't bear fruit, it would be an interesting excersise.

are you serious? I only see the dregs of western society here

  11. Mama falang, you already know i liked the fb page :-)

But i have a question for the thread. Any falang gals dating/married to a thai in the bkk area? Just would be nice to make a friend(s) that share the same experience. Have a cup of coffee with etc.

Sent from my SM-N900 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

do you know anyone who would be interested in doing so? :D >.>
  12. I'm amazed at the number of foreigners who start a business in Thailand and complain about unreliable and unmotivated staff. I've lived here for a few years and I realized in the first few months what the score was. If you go to a Thai restaurant, they all serve exactly the same food. If you go to a Thai hardware store, they all have exactly the same items. There is no individual thought here. they are not taught how to think in schools. They are programmed via rote and routine and propaganda. Yet you expect these same people to suddenly become highly motivated free thinkers with a good work ethic just because they are working for you? There is a reason they call the 3rd world the 3rd world. You should have done your homework before opening a business here. I've seen so many foreign businesses fail here.

I offered my Thai wife's brother a job working for my company. He was already enrolled in a university learning electronics so he had the skills. The only stipulation was he had to be proficient in English. He would have been starting with a salary of 180,000 Baht/month. He turned down the job because he didn't want to learn English. He is now working in a factory in Chonburi that makes tires for cars. He's choking on fumes all day and making less than a tenth of what he could have made if he had just learned to speak English. I don't think I could ever understand the thought process behind how/what many Thai people think.

I think the best thing to do is not try to change the Thai people. We should come here and try to get along in their world, not try to change them. They don't think like we do and they shouldn't be forced to. They have many good qualities and they have a way of life that works for them. The best way to live here is to bring your own money and relax and enjoy life. It would be too stressful for me to have a business here and I don't envy the people that do.

<deleted>, are you serious about the 180k???

I have an electronics degree as well, can I get a job?

  13. China is the new Nazi Germany. I can see the Chinese starting World War III in the next 10 - 15 years with Putin as the 21st Century Mussolini who helps them out.

That's like saying wal mart wants to start world war 3 against its customers. Unless demand for chinese goods collapses, that will never happen.

  14. Oh geesh where do I start:

IN ESPLANADE shopping in the ADIDAS store; I wanted to try on a pair of sneakers (4800b) and had my mind pretty much made up that I was going to buy. I was wearing sandals so I didn't have socks on and requested a new/clean sock before I put my feet into the wall display sneaker that hundreds of others have put their feet in. Nothing special, you know those nylon things they give you at airport security, I just wanted SOMETHING rather than my bare foot. They sell socks and suggested I buy a pack of socks. Shook my head and left.

    * I seriously don't get these people not having the logic to make a common-sense, executive decision or just THINK that a sock, a mere 10-20b was a deciding factor of a 4800b SALE

IN ESPLANADE - SUBWAY restaurant has a different sub special everyday (6"sub+drink).for 99b. I devoured the sub and decided to get another 6"sub BUT I didn't need the drink. So my logic was thinking maybe I can save 10-20b off the special instead of paying for ANOTHER drink. Wouldn't do it but she suggested if I just wanted the sub and not the drink that comes with the 99b special that I just pay the regular sub price of 129b. So pay MORE and get less. I got ANOTHER special, made it a point to fill up the other cup.

    * HERES THE KICKER - She said she couldn't ring up the items seperatly or whatever YET on the receipt the sub and the drink are broken down.

In an earlier posting someone stated it correctly...some things here in Thailand that are/could be very complicated in our home country can be done in minutes here and then some of the easiest logical no-brain things are IMPOSSIBLE. 6 of one & 1/2 dozen another I guess.

Where else can you do those things? Especially the socks.

I don't understand the cluelessness of some of the expats here. They do not give you new socks whenever you try a shoe in london either, and I am willong to bet that its the case everywhere around the world.
