  1. I'm currently staying for a month in Laem Mae Phim (close to Ban Phe). Today I've been touring around Ban Phe and Ranong trying to find a 2nd hand book store where I can trade in my many english books for a few I have not yet read. I've failed in locating a place so far. Does anyone here know where one might find one (I'd rather not have to go to Koh Chang to trade them in, Koh Samet might be an option though).

  2. Let me see if I've gotten this straight. If I leave now and don't use a re-entry permit, I get a new visa stamp (assuming that goes well) that gives me 30 more days in Thailand. After this I will leave the country and come back after a while on my 2nd visa entry as given me from the Thai embassy in Norway. Now as I didn't use a re-entry permit and have a visa-on-arrival from before and an extention on the 1st of my visa-entries, I will not be given an extention on this last part of my double-entry visa? :o

  3. People have used it but don't know exact location.

I assume this is located at the same place:(?)

I went the day I was supposed to, and the driver of our minibus from Koh Lanta knew where the Immigration office was. It's btw not the same place as the above center.

Anyway, when in the office I was told that you only had to get an extension for people aged 14 and above. This means my wife and I hold passports with visas valid until the 18th of March and the kids hold visas valid for 30 days less. This, she said, was no problem. Has anyone else heard the same?

The lady also promised me that I didn't need a re-entry permit when I leave on a diving-trip. And that I'd get a 30 day stamp when I would get back in (and they wouldn't use my 2nd entry on my double-entry visa).

I just hope they know what they are doing, but then you can trust immigration, can't you? :o

Thanks for the help, so far.

  4. About a week or so with money/photo/copies of passport and departure card.

If you are asking about a visa exempt stamp (30 day) rather than using your second visa entry it would be up to the immigration officer. But I suspect you only have 3 months to use your visa and if you are getting an extension on your first entry you would not seem to have time for such a thing.

Thanks a lot for the quick replies, they're a --lot-- of help to me as a novice of Thai immigration-practice.

We will have some problems going the last week of our visa (I am gone, and the wife is hard pressed to travel for some hours by boat on her own with four rowdy kids). Is there a big chance on being refused an extension if we go tomorrow and our current visa runs out on the 16th of Feb?

  5. How long before the current visa runs out can you apply for an extension? Do you need to bring anything else than your passport+visa when you get the extension?

I'm traveling on a double entry visa, is it possible to get a "normal" visa on entry (if I go out and don't get the reentry-permit) while I still have one entry left on my double entry visa?

  6. You would need a re-entry permit at 1,000 baht and be back before your current permitted to stay until stamp expires (the date put on the re-entry permit). You obtain at an Immigration office.

Thanks for the reply - does it take long to get the re-entry permit?

I'm currently in Koh Lanta - where is the closest Immigration Office to get an extention on my visa? We're a family of 6, do I have to take everyone with me to get the extensions done?

  7. I met an english monk at lop buri who has chucked his passport away and rekons he is here for life (good for him) i wonder if the police will ever as a monk for his passport or id ??

AFAIK as long as your in monk robes you can stay as long as you like (according to Lonely Planet (but who's listening to them anyway)).

  8. Get the TV w/extension gives you 90days, then use the 3(30) day border runs and that should do you for the 180days.

Eh, that was not the point of my note, I just wanted to notify that I was indeed helped by the answers I was given, and that the Thai embassy in Norway seemed to issue theses visas.

I actually sendt 2 emails to them, the second was:

    > Thank you for the answer.

    >

    > Is there no way for my family to stay in Thailand as tourists for more

    > than 90 days?

    Dear Sir,

With double entries tourist visa you can stay 60 days in Thailand

and you can contact Immigration Bureau in Thailand to prolong your stay for

another 30 days. Then you have to leave the country and return to Thailand

    again and get 60 days.

    Best regards.

I guess that makes it pretty clear, wouldn't you think?

  9. I got a reply from the embassy here in Norway, here's the mails:

    Hello,

We are a family of six that have been given a six months leave of absence from our jobs. We are looking at going on a vacation to the South East of Asia, and would like to spend as much time in Thailand as possible, as we've heard it's a beautiful country.

I've tried reading up on the visa-rules and was wondering if you were still issuing two entry tourist visas still, and if so what requirements were needed to receive one?

    Dear Sir,

You can apply for double entries tourist visa.

    You have to send :

    1. Your original passports + 1 copy of the page of personal data

    2. Two photos of each person

    3. A copy of your flight return ticket

    4. A visa application form for each person,

which you can print out from www.thaiembassy.no

    5. Fee is 400 NOK for each person

    6. An envelope with your address + stamps for

returning your passports by registered mail.

    Best regards.

It seems I might be able to achieve what I wanted. Thanks for the help (so far). :o

  10. My family and I were originally planning on an extended vacation in Thailand for 6 months. I've lately become aware that you can't do this without some difficulties. Today I got a reply to an e-mail from the Thai embassy here in Norway:

Dear Sir, You can apply for Tourist visa. With the visa you can stay 60 days in Thailand. You have to send 1. Original passports + 1 copy of the page of the personal data 2. Two photos of each person 3. A copy of return flight ticket 4. Fee is 200 NOK for each persons 5. A visa application form for each person which can be printed out from www.thaiembassy.no 6. An envelope with your address + stamps .You have to ask from the post office how much youhave to put on the envelope for the returning 6 passports. With this visa, you can go to the Immigration Bureau in Thailand to apply for the extension of staynot more than 30 days. Then you can stay in Thailandaltogether 90 days from the date of entry. Best regards.

As we are 6 people going (my wife and I and kids from 2-9yo) we'd try to fix as many things in advance as we can, so I've got two questions:

    1. Is there any way we can apply for visas for the duration of our trip in advance (6months)?

    2. If we can't, is there any way to avoid booking the return ticket with the "wrong" return date? I'm guessing the Thai embassy will not give us our visa if our return flight leaves well 3 months after the visa they've issued has expired.
