Let’s get the facts straight that the Thai government is to polite to say.
1. EU Bloc foreigners have been using Thai government hospitals and not paying the bill because their socialized medical insurance covers them at home.
2. Insurance is only available from a specific list of Thai companies. None of which cover for preexisting conditions or if you’re older than 72.
3. US expats are caught in this scam because the Thai’s don’t want to point the finger at the EU.
4. US Veterans cannot obtain a letter of coverage that is acceptable by Thai immigration.
5. Disabled US Veterans were and still are screwed for medical coverage by Congress since 1996 when they were specifically singled out as not being eligible for medical care outside the US except for service connected disabilities.
6. Tricare although having a long list of approved providers, does in FACT, not have a single provider that directly bills them in Thailand.
Yes, I am the Expert on US Veteran medical care in Thailand.

I’ve created a group on FB to specifically address VA’s lack of medical care for Veterans living overseas. If you or anyone you know is living in any country outside the US, please check out this link and pass it on.

Where are you located?
I’m in Pathumthani. I bought one. Was hoping someone had a microwave they were going to toss in the bin.
-
If anyone has a 220v microwave that doesn’t work, I’m looking for the transformer from one.

It's called screw with the retirees. They'll be happy to be scammed by the insurance companies so they can stay here.
Even if the show proof of existing health insurance.

Resurrecting this thread.
Any current info on Enduro type riding in and around Hua Hin? Bike recommendations for a short guy (720mm seat height or less)? I can do my own wrenching.

Apologies if this is the wrong forum.
I have created a users guide for those attempting to use the VA's FMP program and/or Tricare to obtain payment for their medical bills here in Thailand. I wrote it because I found the respective web site confusing.
Please feel free to share it. If there are any questions, please ask.

Just like last year's Songkran. Farang starts a fight and gets laid out for it.
Only difference is no Thai's involved.

It used to be that veterans could get treated in Bangkok. There was one specific hospital that was used, but I can't remember the name. Has something changed?
I don't know. I'm in Hua Hin about 3 hours away from BKK.

"If you're traveling you should have insurance coverage and if you decide to settle in Thailand you should face the fact that medical needs have to be planned for. "
You're correct. In regard to the US Veterans program, they said they take care of everything for Veterans with a high disability rating.
In reality, this is not true and you can't get private insurance to fill the gap.
Plus, the things that are paid for by then, are not direct billed. Its a pay first and we'll reimburse you when we get around to it.

Bupa and other companies will issue policies with exclusions for specific pre-existing conditions.
Anyway, there's nothing to suggest that Mr. Melzer had tried to get and/or been refused insurance for that reason.
All companies have people they pay to find a way to connect an illness to a pre-existing condition.
There is no profit in paying medical bills.

Can u get a big motorbike though
Yes. I also have first class insurance for it.
But if I need medical care for other than an accident, I'm out of pocket for the bill.
I have a battle currently going with the US Veterans Administration. They pay all medical bills if Veterans are in the US, but if we choose to travel or live outside the US,we're screwed.

No money for health insurance, but riding around on a 250K motorcycle. Priorities?
I have can't get health insurance in Thailand because of pre-existing conditions.

"Get treated first and worry later. Life and death should have no price tag."
This advice is old as time and DOES NOT WORK.
If you go for medical care, they will treat the immediate emergency, but if you have no resources to pay for it, you get no follow up treatment. Or, you get all your money taken away and can't leave the country until the bill is paid.
The Governments of the countries we come from need to work with the Thai Government to ensure medical bills for those using Government insurance like Social Security or Veterans Venefits (in the case of the US) are paid promptly.

Just a guess, you're a trekky.

Been surviving in Phetchabun for 5 months. Decided the mind numbing boredom and lack of nurishment needed to end.

Thanks Crossy

I'm wondering about the 1 message maximum in the messenger. I can see limiting storage because it does eat up space, but a 1 message limit is extremely harsh.

You caught me. Darn, now what shall I do.

Wondering if there are Americans in HH. I'm moving from Phetchabun on the 13th. Haven't spoken "American" in 4 months. Lol
-
Wow, that was helpful.
-
Here in Phetchabun the version of ribs I've are bones with sauce, no meat to speak of.
How are the ribs in Hua Hin? If they have them, where are they?
-
Well folks, it has been decided. We have rented a house in Hua Hin on a month to month so that we can really look over the area.
Will be arriving HH on the 13th. Anyone wanting to meet up sometime, let me know.
Elderly expats dazed and confused over insurance, ‘retirement visas’ and COVID

I see 2 choices.
If under 70, pay the annual extortion.
If over 70, have over 1mil in the bank.
Apparently the Thai Government doesn't give a damn about retirees who make up a huge portion of their GDP.
