  1. Thailand is not having a battle against plastic. I could go to HomePro right now and buy it by the square meter. It is on the floor below the paints and solvents.

Thailand has adapted one element of the Western PC approach of causing people pain and inconvenience for some meaningless symbolic victory.

If you even really thought there was a question of winning, you would have put more effort into defining goals and metrics. The main objective mentioned is ocean plastic, but Bangkok has near 100% collection rates. 90% of plastic comes from 10 rivers in China and Africa as well as the Chinese fishing fleet. But by ignoring that and harassing Thai citizens you are only imposing a useless colonial framework on them. No wonder they laugh at you.

"From the 2 million tonnes of plastic waste generated by Thailand per year, most of the waste is single-use plastic bags from malls, supermarkets, convenience stores, local markets, and street vendors. " This statistic is clearly made up. It is not accurate. Please provide a link so that I can disabuse it more completely.

  2. I will have completed three years on a single work permit in January of 2016.

But, it seems that the annual application window closes at the end of January. Is it possible for me to submit an application when I have two years and eleven months on a work permit, then reach the three year mark prior to the review process? Or would I have to wait another full year.

In the latter case, I would probably apply for an Elite Visa instead.

    Thank you.

you need to have 3 years on a single Non Imm Visa with uninterrupted extensions, not a single work permit

yes you still need the work permit but the Non Imm and extensions are non negotiable

Thanks. I have been on a single Non Immigrant Visa for the same period of time, probably even a few days longer, so that won't be a problem.

But both will only be of two years and eleven months in duration at the end of 2015 and I will not be able to submit a full three year record of paying taxes.

I work for a BOI-registered company who uses a professional service to complete the visa and work permit processes and have paid full taxes. I think I would have no problem meeting all requirements if the application window was rolling.

However, I will not have reached three years by the end of 2015.

I was hoping that it would be possible to submit prior to the three year mark, or if it would be possible to submit in early 2016.

It seems like the answer is no.

My back up plan is likely to be a Thai Elite visa as I am planning to set up my own company at some point soon. I could delay for a few months, but not for a whole year.

    Thanks again for your help.

  4. “The problem was that water management then was in the hands of politicians not the professionals,” said Mr Niphon.

So now its in the hands of soldiers and not the professionals. Are we any better off?

Thanks to those politicians aligned with the PTP (not PTP itself) my home was flooded. Had they not opened the dams like that now there would have been far more water.

Also the rice pledging made sure that more water was needed as people wanted to plant rice.. so yes the guy is right that its because of politicians.

As for your remark now its in the hands of soldiers.. I am not sure if they override the professionals.. if so its just as bad.

Actually, it was politicians that have been at various temporarily aligned with PTP and temporarily aligned with the Democrats (and temporarily aligned with anyone else who would take them).

Although the government changed in 2011, the same Chartthaipattana agriculture minister remained in place in both coalitions.

  5. The fact that a convicted criminal sill holds a police rank makes Thailand look like a corrupt 3rd world banana republic...

National police chief Pol Gen Somyot Pumpanmuang should be sacked for bringing the police force into disrepute.

Why weren't you whining about this ten years ago?

Lieutenant-General Chalor Kerdthes was convicted of savage murders and is serving a 50 year prison sentence. He still has his rank.

Scandals involving murders of innocent people and foreign diplomats as well as having currently serving Generals implicated in human trafficking gangs is slightly worse than co-signing for a legal house purchase wouldn't you say?

Again, I dislike Thaksin, think he is a menace to the country and would love to see him gone.

But the one-sided mania of the Thai visa couch warriors blinded by Thaksin obsession is out of control.

  6. Covering his back. This guy's not stupid.

Regardless of your political views, Thaksin has been convicted of a crime, jumped bail and became a fugitive and has 15 serious court cases outstanding. The DSI now are after charging him with LM, which is considered gravely serious here. He also appeared on video links encouraging supporters to break laws.

<deleted> how many more coppers here have committed crimes but allowed to keep their rank, been transferred or just told off?

Next he'll try sending it back because they used the wrong colored ink or wrong weight of paper.

Maybe he should be allowed to retire early. A career as a stock broker and financial wizard could be waiting.

Regardless of your views Thaksin co-signing a perfectly legal housing purchase by his wife is hardly the crime of the century. Court cases outstanding mean nothing. The fact that they couldn't bring them to trial says it all. Les Majeste is so over used that Thai lawyers are calling it a human rights abuse.

I dislike Thaksin and wish he would get hit by a truck, but this silly "international criminal" hysteria was boring and stupid five years ago. A million additional repetitions hasn't improved it.
