  1. If one leaves Thailand with a non-O retirement WITHOUT a re-entry permit then a new application is required as far as I understand.

Can a new application be done in Laos if you are not a local resident ? It appears to be the case on their website, just requiring the 800k in a Thai bank account but I wanted to check if anyone had experience of this.

Please don't say just get a re-entry permit, as that is not the question. Thank you.

  2. I see, so its possibly that this is specific to Siam-Legal and/or other 'services' assisting in the issuance of these visa's...

I will not be using their services and have a genuine scenario involving an existing thai company, who I trade with. They are prepared to provide a letter of invitaion and the relevant company docs to back my visa request.

With your knowledge do you forsee problems applying for a 1 year non imm O visas for my wife and child on the back of a successful 1 year B visa for myself ? Or should I make all three applications at the same time perhaps ?

    Thank you

That would be for people using their services. I don't suggest going by any info from a commercial website.

The chances of you getting multiple entry visas for your family are not great I must say. You can try by doing it in person all at one time.

I could add my wife as a director of the UK company, and apply for 2x b visa's and one O for the child, either seperately, one B for me and one B and one O for wife and child, or all of us together. Do you think that might be a better way to do it ?

  4. I will soon be applying for a 1 year Non Imm B visa from the Thai Consulate in London. I will not be applying for a work permit.

I am concerned about the latest news posted about 2 weeks ago on the Siam Legal website:

Important Notice About One-Year Thai Visa Processing

New increased security measures have resulted in stricter rules regarding One-Year Thai visa application processing. The issuance of One-year non-immigrant visas are now subject to these stricter rules implemented by the Thai embassy or consulate in the UK. As a result, we have seen significant decline in the success of applications under this visa category.

Please note that it is at the discretion of the Thai embassy or consulate official to issue the One-year non-immigrant visa, or as an alternative a 90-day non immigrant visa is issued in lieu of One-year visa. Some cases may arise depending on the opinion and discretion of the particular official in processing your visa application.

We therefore advise that before you make any payment, kindly check first with any of the Thai embassy or consulate in the UK to validate if approval or issuance of the visa under this category is now viable.

Does anyone have any recent experience about this, or know any further details about these 'stricter rules' ?

  5. If any one has any suggestions of a garment manufacturer to make some simple canvas products for export to europe.

I'm looking for a proper factory rather than a shop house set up with a couple of sewing machines.

  6. I am trying, with no luck, to find out if there are any rules, laws or taxes relating to personally exporting gold bullion bars(purchased in Thailand) from thailand.

If you turn up at the airport with gold bullion bars on your person (not coins) are there any issues ?

Does anyone have any first hand experience of this ?

Please keep any replies on topic, I know there my be easier methods, such as selling here and re-buying on arrival elsewhere, or taking coins, but I'm specifically interested in the above question.

    Additional information:

I will be on route to the UK via Doha with Qatar. As I understand it, there are no duties nor VAT to pay on arrival in the UK but it muct be declared. Again unsure as to what will happen in transit through Doha.

    thanks

  7. I haven't seen anyone recommend YLG Bullion in Bangkok yet.

They sell 1kg authenticated gold bars from recognised international mints (Perth, Suisse etc). Each bar comes with a certificate. They will also provide allocated storage for free, and you can collect your physical bars with 24 hours notice.

If they are holding your gold you can also trade spot price with them instantly over the phone, selling or buying with +2 day settlement.

  8. Anyone who thinks their government acts in their own interests should read "Anatomy of the State' linked here:

    http://www.lewrockwell.com/rothbard/rothbard62.html

It really makes me question our society and its sheep like tolerance when people effectively say "I don't object to continued increasing erosion of my civil liberties as I have nothing to hide"

That view has sure helped the UK become the socialist police state it is now:

20% of the WORLDS cctv cameras

    ID cards

    DNA databases

    Stop and search

Imprisonment on suspicion of planning to orchestrate a crime, without having actually broken the law

monitoring of all calls, emails, websites

    etc etc.

Just like the 'carbon dioxide based' global warming illusion is an excuse to increase taxation and control, so has the fabricated 'terrorism threat' led to huge civil liberty erosions.

At least in Thailand corruption is more transparent and less sophisticated, and ultimately far less invasive.

  9. Looking to prepare a simple gravity fed non-pressurised water filter system for use in my home along similar lines to this:

    http://www.handpump.org/kisii/

I need to find the ceramic filters, the candle type with a screw-threaded nozzle at one end. There is only one candle available in Carrfour / Tesco, but it does not have silver impregnation nor carbon, its purely ceramic.

There are plenty of filters available for the pressurised houshold systems, but they don't have the screw thread and rubber gasket seals to allow attachement to a hole in a bucket...

Anyone know where these can be brought in Bangkok ? I think I need a shop that specialises in water filter systems

    regards

  10. Define rooted.

Here is a definition of root ( link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=513061)

Root (as in access)- root is like the administrator account on a windows machine (also referred to as su, or superuser). It allows you to have complete access to the underlying OS of a linux or *nix based machine. For the G1, it allows for the use of themes, native backup functionality, manually selecting which apps can utilize root access, auto-rotate screen, multi-touch in browser, moving applications/caches to the sd card etc...

For the Hero it is quite a complex procedure, requiring reasonable technical skills.

For some (power) users this is important extra functionality, but for most users it is not so important. Although my Hero has root, I can easily remove root and reset back to the default T-Mobile settings, which will also bring back all the T-Mobile branding and apps.

One further thing, having root has allowed me to add the thai fonts, so the phone can display thai correctly, there is also a thai dictionary and keyboard.

If you want further information PM me.

    Regards

    Chris

  11. You cannot establish a legitimate company here without employing five Thais but your business has nothing to do with Thailand anyway.

Yes, you can. If you do only export (services and goods), you can have a 100% foreign owned, no Thais. A company don't need staff, it just makes some things a bit easier, like work-permits.

If you are doing any work, over the internet or whatever, you need a work permit.

I'm here with my wife and baby currently doing 60day back to backs, but are in the process of designing goods in local thai factory to be exported back to the UK. If I can get a work permit along these lines, how about my dependants (non thai) ?

  12. I've done a search and have not really found a definate answer.

I have now 2 back to back 60 day tourist visas and am planning my 3rd for June.

My question is. although I understand Singapore is stricter in applying visa regulations, eg they require to see a departure ticket from Thailand and 1000USD. However, will they issue another back to back Tourist 60 day visa ? I have read something about requiring a 30 day break between touist visas - but not sure if this is correct.

Does anyone have any experience on this matter ?

    thanks
