  1. I just bought a 64Gb 3G/Wifi from MBK for 26,000. From USA, unlocked.

That's a great price, actually cheaper than in the U.S. ($ 829.00) assuming you have to pay sales tax (6.25% for me).

Can you tell us the name of the shop?

I can't find the business card but I'll be going back to MBK later this week and I'll get their card.

  2. There is no such thing as "FACTORY UNLOCKED" for 3g ipads, they do not ever come locked to a carrier, some of you are talking out of your ass.

I bought the official ipad case at mbk this week for 1600 baht, found 2 shops willing to go that low. Also bought the apple bluetooth keyboard for 2400 baht at the istore, I love this keyboard, very helpful for work.

The Japanese model is locked... google it....

  3. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I called The Sports Corner and it is non smoking inside so we will give it a try. Thanks again everyone.

Larry's dive has a no smoking inside policy

The last time I went in Larry's dive.. it was just like a bar on the moon.... no atmosphere... also looked dirty and cheap... but it might have changed in the last 2 months?

  4. I just tested the 3G connection to a few places and got the following results:

    Bangok: D/L: between 1200kbps and 3194kbps U/L between 180 and 363kbps Ping: 200ms

    Singapore - D/L: 1508kbps U/L: 347kbps Ping: 235ms

    Hong Kong - D/L: 1024kbps U/L: 188kbps Ping: 310ms

I'm in Bangkok and I turn off my wireless lan on the phone as the 3G is normally quicker even than my 3mbit True internet for streaming video and the like...

  5. being drunk can help with your defence under the criminal code

Yes, that is true. but on reading after a quick search, section 49 and 378 are the 2 I found and it doesn't bode well...

quote from section 378 Thai Criminal Code

"Whoever, drinking the spirituous liquor or the other intoxicant up to be drunk, and behaving

in the riotous manner, or to be unable to control oneself in any public road or place, shall be

fined not out of five hundred Baht."

500 Baht??? I hope there is a better section than this...

  6. Yes, I would say Larry's is very marginal and nothing to write home about.

I agree with the poster who says why not take it to Bourbon St.

Also Gulliver's is worth a go.

Larry's was a meant to be a 'sentimental' visit for old times sake... but I think we won't be going there... Bourbon St. has some recommendations... Is Gulliver the one on soi 5 right hand side about 200 metres down the soi?

  7. I use Food By Phone and Chef's XP, depends on what I would like to eat.

Anyhow, I noticed a couple of different things:

2 times I had to complain with Food by Phone, because they deliver the wrong food. Customer service was both times great, they called me right away and they deliver the correct order within no time.

I had a complain with Chefs XP but there was no response at all. Last time I ordered from Chefs XP I got my food in a plastic bag, because the original packing was broken.

Furthermore, the messengers of Food by Phone are very friendly, helpful and clean guy's. The messengers from Chefs XP sometimes smell dirty like they not shower for quite a while, that's no joke.

I would recommend Food by Phone, even they are slightly more expensive.

I've used both services and mainly stay with chefsxp. I would agree that sometimes the delivery guy could do with a wash once in a while. I normally make up the same order on both sites and check the difference in price. I ordered an Indian about a week ago and the price difference was about 400 baht in favour of chefsxp so it was the way to go. However, Food by phone also has a good service so I mainly differentiate on cost and accept the sometimes smelly bikers.

As kevinbkk says, there are some items that are unique to each delivery service but good competition overall and great to have the service.

  8. Used to have a good Reuben Sandwich. Haven't been there for 10ish years though.

I've heard some stories from a few years ago about the food, but also that it was all about the chef... and if the chef left, pretty much the menu would leave with him...

Unfortunately I think 'dive' will be an accurate description... but I'm not going to pre-judge just yet...

  9. Hi TV people,

I am looking to go out with a few friends coming over in a couple of weeks (subject to Volcano's and other political rambling) and one of the names mentioned from long ago was Larry's Dive. I remember a few years back that this place had an up and coming reputation (good ribs?).... however.... A couple of friends went there about a month ago and said the place was a s_hit hole and looked more like a moon bar (no atmosphere).

I would be interested on any TV posters that might have been there recently to provide some advice (or pictures) if Larry's Dive still looks like a cheap s_hit hole or is it a decent place to go comparable to Dubliner, Londoner, Molly's etc.

Would you take some of your mates there for a beer?

I'm not in the immediate location so its not easy for me to just pop down there.

  10. Toby Jug has been in Bangkok and Pattaya for many years. I used to go to one on soi Post Office in Pattaya a long time ago.

Yep, and it is still the same guy and his wife from the place in Bangkok running it. They have a folder with all the news clippings in, well worth a read.

  11. Just a little update... Been in the Toby Jug pub a few times in the last couple of weeks and the food and service and price are excellent. A must for anyone wanting a bit of traditional grub but want some quieter surroundings.

The menu should still cater to most people and I would strongly recommend that people try it at least once. OK, it is a little bit out of the way down sukhumvit soi 50, but well worth the journey.

The must have item?? one of the home made pie :)

p.s. found out they can do 'party packs' and home delivery if you have a nice motorbike taxi guy who will pick it up for you.

  12. the current government, that was not elected in by the people

Which MP in the current government was not elected?

All of them.. Trying to 'win' an election by taking out your main competitor is not very democratic... Please tell me, how many Yellows have been convicted so far for besieging the countries International Airport or at all?? I bet the answer is zero. All a bit one sided considering the Red's won 2 elections previously (although I am sure both sides were encouraging people to vote with their $$$ skills).

Please stop posting factually wrong accounts on current events, it is disruptive to the forum debate and will derail the topic at hand.

All MPs in the current government and parliament was elected. That is how one gets into the parliament.

If you show me the evidence where a free and open election took place where the Democrats did not have the opposition removed then I shall retract my statement.

The leaders have been charged and are awaiting trial, so stop telling lies and stick to the truth.

Telling lies? did you read what I said? CONVICTED not CHARGED... none have yet... I wonder how long it will take...

TIT mate... Do you really think it will be a fair and balanced trial? I'm not sure. I don't know one person here that is not using the system in one form or another for their own benefit both Thai and foreigners... and the truth is subjective, just what people want you to hear from both the yellows, reds, blues and all the other colours that are out there. Take everything you hear with a very large pinch of salt.

  15. This is the real reason.
Without the presence of Pheu Thai MPs, the House could not make quorum as of 9:40 am.

This is nothing more than a maneuver to stop all government law making and functioning,

besides the Ministries and the Cabinet.

This is the logical thoughts of people who would run the country as THEY see fit,

and dam_n all others needs and wants. They will stop government functioning if they can,

because they aren't getting their way, and so harm every citizen of Thailand in the process.

They prove once again that they do not in ANY SENSE deserve to be handed control of the nation.

If they can't be back in power, they will hamstring the nation until they get their way.

    They are acting despicably.

Better if they invaded the airport and closed it down then just like the Yellow shirts did, after all that's not a 'despicable act' is it? If they did that they would deserve to be handed control of the country! :)

    Topic drift, out of order.

This is about the current situation and not the past situation.

Though the one tie in point is Thaksin was central to causing BOTH DEBACLES.

Typical! Forget the past, it doesn't matter any more... The Yellow shirts need to be held accountable for their actions in the past and with the current government, that was not elected in by the people, this won't happen. The Red's are trying in some form to restart the political process however the countries elite (including some farangs by the look of it) don't want that to happen... I'm staying neutral on Thaksin's involvement as this is clouding some of the issues that the Red's are striving for...

    dictatorial

I would like to see some democracy in this country like the current PM spouts on about... but what I keep seeing is more dictatorial.. Not looking good for the future here.

  16. I accidentally used this tollway on Sunday, I was shocked at how high the price rise was and if I knew that was the one, I would have driven 'underneath'... I won't use it again.

    rip off..

On a nice note... easypass is working well.. nice to see all those people waiting to pay..

  17. The price in Thailand that these so called "Public Notaries" charge is ridiculous.

One even asked for 3,500 Baht. Another in Hua Hin, after he had stamped/signed two copies of my passport asked for 1,000 baht each. I said sorry, but I am not paying that and walked out.

The best option is to be friendly with your local bank manager and get him/her to do it free, however recently I have heard stories that some are now refusing to do it.

To put it into perspective, the UK charges around a fiver and in Germany I was charged 10 Euros. So the Thais should be happy with maybe 200 or 300 Baht. Anything above that is a major rip-off.

My company certifies documents for banks etc. overseas and we only charge 500B (we might even be able go to see you if you're in Bangkok!). That charge includes us keeping a copy on record in case there are any problems.. Anything more than that is expensive...

    MNM

I have been recommended someone for about 500 baht here in Pattaya - Kevin Harper - British Law Society - 3rd road.

I may pop down and see him. Like your company charges - that seems a reasonable price.

To be honest - its not about the extra few hundred baht - I just HATE being conned!!

I agree, you normally get what you pay for, you want cheap lawyers, expect crap. But for something like this, 500B is about the maximum, and we include transportation to the client.. if the client comes to us, we'll knock it down a bit.

Most of my companies clients have been ripped off by other lawyers/ accountants etc. Then come to me to fix things.. But they never want to pay that little bit more in the first place and always think they 'know someone big' who can help them, but they never can.. so sad...
