  1. My wife and I moved to Thailand to retire and returned to the States 4 years ago and while we were there we met many people that purchased homes and condos. I was always leary of the Thai way of purchasing real estate with a Thai partner that had 51% of the ownership of property or business. I explained to my expat friends that if the government wants at anytime they could just find a way to confiscate the property. The same goes for the money in a Thai bank, we stayed using the income proving method at the time. I never trusted a government or a people that will not allow full ownership in anything. The US has a treaty that allows US citizens to purchase land and own business but try to do that and it is impossible so the treaty is useless, like everything else that is put forth by the government. They want only to confiscate property and money left in bank accounts as they need it to do what they want.

Oh God. ....then when you get to the border the sky could fall in on Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia and Myanmar!! Then your only choice is back to Thailand!! What to do then??

Do you really think you own anything in Thailand? If you have a house either you lease the property and build a home on it or you and your Thai partner owns 51% of the property and could cause many problems. I lived in Thailand for 3 years and spent 2 years in the Air Force there and nothing is new, I built a home for my thilak and the boyfriend came in and threw her out. Even condos the building has to have 51% Thai ownership and may even be on leased property so think before buying anything.

  3. I am not a golfer. But I had visitors from the states 6 heavy duty golfers they play at least 4x a week in the states. Mainly in New Jersey and Florida. They were shocked at the green fees at the courses here they said it was double the cost of the states,. They do use golf carts but not caddies.

They will not visit again because they feel the cost is high for what they want to do, mainly golf daily. Are there any suggestions.

  4. After owning businesses for years in the States I concur with the statements from the previous posts. First find out why it is for sale, and then verify any claims by observing the business operation for at least a month. Count the receipts to be sure it is as claimed. Verify the fixed operating expenses and the lease you need a Thai Lawyer, for any contractual or lease issues.

If you have never been in business before you are in for a rude awakening, it is stressful and most of the time you do not make money. After observing many of the farang businesses in the area I live to me they are hobbies.

    Good Luck

  5. Chicago, New York all of the major cities in the US have extremely tight gun control laws. In NY the new mayor stopped the stop and frisk rules for the police and murders immediately went up. I am from the US and am very familiar with gun control, the criminal control is the problem. We let these gangs come in from different countries and they control the streets. If you look into the cause of street violence that is what the problem is. The problem with the mass shootings if looked closely enough is that most of the people do not take into consideration that all were on some type of drug prescribed by doctors. Also most used stolen or someone else's guns.

I cannot believe that people that do not know about the law's of the USA comment on our problems mainly caused by inept politicians, and there feel good attitude towards crime, immigration and drugs. I am in Thailand and I do not know the laws here about ownership of guns but is see gun violence daily in the news. <deleted> are everywhere in the world and it will be always be so, guns are everywhere.
