  1. Bubu, I copy in a response from an earlier thread.

Go to http://wap.dtac.co.th on your mobile phone.

Select the e-mail/chat icon and then you select PushMail. Click on english and follow instructions, quite easy.

They send you the e-mail/push mail as a pop-up service message. I believe they removed the monthly fee so you only pay normal data charges if you choose to retrieve the message. You can send or reply to emails from this menu. Works for gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.

Not sure if this solves your problem?

  2. PGA Championship, one of the 4 majors. They will start the 3rd round today around 1700 hrs Bangkok time, while the 4th round will start around 2000 hrs. The whole thing to finish 0600 local time tomorrow.

True will of course not show any live action this evening. They will show re-runs from Friday tonight when there is exciting live coverage from the 3rd and 4th round.

Live sending on True starts at 0130 hrs. This to make sure that every golf-fan in Thailand get zero value of money.

True is really going out their way to give crap service.

Don't come saying that it is cheap either. It is double price of CATV in Europe, while for example mobile services in Thailand is less than half price.

  3. Sanook77, you have to go to wap.dtac.co.th on your mobile phone.

Select the e-mail/chat icon and then you select PushMail. Click on english and follow instructions, quite easy.

  4. The program-menu on tv. For some reason they decided to change it to make it better 12 months ago. It has been useless since.

Payment is a nightmare, but wife covers that :o

NBA Finals. Only showed a few of the games I believe. But cut out the game on saturday morning (Bk time). Fantastic.

    Premier League coverage.

Other than that? It is a monopoly so they get all the sports rights very cheap I assume. Most is covered. From Ryder Cup, masters, Forumla 1, Premier league, etc.

Rain and no coverage. But we have to blame that on the other monopoly, satellites. Now who owns that and who used to own that?

  5. Hotnutts, as Monty says: Check EDGE coverage with some people who has an EDGE phone.

    postpaid: http://www.dtac.co.th/english/postpaid.html

I think those other prices you cited were for Prepaid. Go for postpaid as DTAC just removed the working permit requirement.

This is what they "promise" in terms of EDGE/GPRS:

    dtac's data coverage

dtac offers High-speed connections with EDGE and GPRS technology nationwide.

    What is EDGE and GPRS?

EDGE and GPRS are data technologies on the top of the GSM mobile standard. GPRS has speed of up to 40 kbit/s,

while EDGE has speed of up to 200 kbit/s. dtac’s EDGE network is purposely built to give our customers a steady speed,

rather than large variable ups and downs. As such our customers should expect an average speed on EDGE of 120 kbps.

This speed might vary according to peak traffic hours.

    dtac 3G

The Thai authorities have yet to issue licenses for 3G services. (Also called UMTS or HSDPA.)

  6. PattayaDavid, I bought Samsung for wife. Bad mistake. Not user-friendly at all, especially for sms and mms.

Nokia is the best choice. Easy to use. As for the clamshells I don't know, but I agree with Nikster. Women and cats will do as they please, men and dogs should get used to it. Buy the most expensive one. Then you can wait 12-18 months before the next one has to be bought.

  7. JohnBF, I use a lot of int'l sms and chose DTAC. I assume that's relevant for the sms-crazy filipinos?

DTAC charge 5bt per sms worldwide, which I believe is half the normal price. So if you can limit your GF to 5 sms a day to Philip that would limit it to 750 baht a month or 25 baht a day. She can tell her friends to send more, it's free to receive :o

    Good luck mate.

  8. Hi, I'm looking to buy an EDGE PC-card next weekend. Would be great if some of you who use PC-card or handset as modem could post the speed you're getting. As I travel extensively throughout Thailand, all locations would be of interest, although Bangkok and Pattaya are my main hangouts.

    Mobile operator and PC-Card/handset manufacturer.

Thanks for the help in advance. :o
