  1. Hello,

i am currently in the planning stage for building a house on Koh Tao.
A friend suggested to use fiber cement panels or -boards on a steel structure instead of cement or brick walls and quoted a price app 25-30% less than i got quoted for a "normal" cement building.
Obvious advantage is: shorter building time and therefor reduction of building costs.

Does any of you know what might be disadvantages of these boards. According to the manufacturers brochure they are everything you need them to be like:
    - termite resistant
    - water resistant
    - fire proof
    - lightweight
    - heat and sound insulating
    - long-lasting
    - easy installation
    - etc etc...

I would be very thankful for any qualified information.

    Thanks guys!!!

  2. I sent Jim an E-Mail some days ago - no reply yet :-(
    Does anyone have his Number?

Also, do you know if he offers the express service also for Non-Imm B (Business) Visa?

I'd like to fly to Penang on Tuesday, arriving in the late afternoon and take the flight back to Samui on Thursday afternoon. That means i would apply wednesday morning and would need to get it back within 24h. Does anyone know for sure if thats possible or not?

    Cheers

  3. Hello,

I am planning to fly to Penang on the 24th June and would arrive there in the late afternoon.
Is it possible to apply for a Non-Immigrant B single entry Visa in the morning of the 25th and recieve the Visa until lunchtime on the 26th so that i could fly back to Samui in the afternoon of the 26th???
Can someone confirm that some guesthouses offer sme sort of "express service" for an additional fee? And if so, which ones can you recommend?
Banana guesthouse only send a pretty useless info saying "... you might be lucky but no promise..."... :-(

    Thnak you in advance,

    Alex Mitsch

  4. Cant believe the bullshit some people post here!!!
Koh Tao a National Park??? Haha, what a crap!

I live here or 7 years now and i am currently planning on buying property myself.

The special situation (history of a prison island and no Chanote but only Tor Bor 5 landtitles) of Koh Tao makes it very, very tricky and you will not be the actual owner of the land - at least no just yet.... In fact every 7/11 and all the 40-50 diveshops are in fact illegal!
This is sth you have to accept and account for if investing on Koh Tao, but it does not automatically mean that you cant make a living with investment - its just some Poker Play involved.
Dont have the time to go into detail but feel free to send me a PM and i'll get in touch if you need further info. I actually just had a meeting with the Accountant that many people here use and got some pretty interesting info about the lawyer that so many use - not knowing exactly if we're talking about the same persons... Not all business owners are using the same connections!

Just be very very careful if you dont know the thai partners and your posts above indicate you dont know enough just yet!!!! ;-)

  5. Hello,

this might be totally stupid question to some of you but it literally raised a discussion with some friends recently.

If a piece of land is located on a quite steep slope, how is the size of the land measured? Is it measured from above i.e. with GPS coordinates or are there also areas (like small islands) where it is measured by literally walking up and down the hill and check the distance between some coconut trees for example?

Last option would result in a much smaller area to build on than a flat property.

For instance, 1 Rai on a 45° slope would only offer a bit less than 3/4 Rai actual building area.

Hope you can understand my way of thinking and someone knows the answer.

    Thanks!!!

  6. I partially agree with you in terms of the effects of the tourism itself on the environment but also think the pullution flushed into the seas does not kill the marine environment in a degree as an oil spill does...

Of the 9 major spills in Thailand, 9 of them were related to transporting oil on Thai waters. None were from producing oil in Thai waters.

Did you actually read the report?

"The leak apparently happened while crude oil was being transferred from a PTT Global Chemical offshore pipeline to a tanker at 6.30am on July 27. A gust of wind apparently destabilised the tanker receiving the oil, which lead the pipe to get disconnected, Khunying Thongtip Ratanarat, who is leading the investigation team, said."

So, how the hell can you say "None were from producing oil in Thai waters"???

Also, i am surprised that ONLY 75% of Samui's annual revenue comes from tourism. I'd bet its more than that and as a matter of fact the long term effects of a major oil spill in the gulf would cause a negative monetary effect on the annual revenue that outweights the revenue from drilling oil...!.

"I should have been foreseen by the oil companies"...

Yeah but isnt the lack of foresight a general problem of the Thais???
Problems will ONLY be solved AFTER something happened....
