  1. I have owned a condo in Bangkok for about 6 years and am considering selling it in the near future.

When my wife (Thai) mentioned it to the condo manager she was told that as i hadnt registered my ownership of the condo, the land office would not give me credit for years of ownership when calculating the tax on the sale.

I am confused as when I bought the condo all documents were supplied to the land office and the Chanote document is in my name. Everything was in order and i assumed that i was then the registered owner of the condo. My wife thinks that as i do not have a yellow tabian baan I am not the registered owner.

This is my only property in thailand and has never been rented out to anyone during my ownership.

I would be grateful if anyone who has sold a condo recently can tell me if i have missed something, and what documentation i will need when selling the condo in order to be given credit for years of ownership when the tax is calculated on the sale.

  2. When I first came to thailand I had an offer of a job before I arrived. My employer provided me with the papers I needed to get a non imm B visa at the consulate in Hull. This visa allows you to work as soon as you arrive in Thailand while your work permit application is being processed, This took 13 weeks in my case but I was still allowed to work legally.

I now have a non Imm O visa. With this visa my understanding is that you can work but must wait until you physically have your work permit in your hand.

The stamp only means that you have to wait for your work permit and only prohibits work until then.

With a retirement visa work is prohibited and you cannot apply for a work permit.

  3. My current non O visa extension (based on marriage to a thai national) expires on 17 September and I will be applying for another extension on the 17 August at Chiang Mai immigration office.

I will be using the 400000 in the bank again seasoned for 3 months.

Can anyone tell me if this 3 months is calculated from the expiry date of my last extension (17 sept) or the application date ( 17 Aug).

    Your comments will be apprecited.

  4. Can anyone tell me where to buy gammon steaks in either Chiang Mai or Bangkok. My wife developed a taste for gammon and pinapple on a recent visit to uk and she wants to cook her own but cannot find anywhere to buy them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  5. My wife and I have just bought a traditonal teak house near Chiang Mai which is in need of some restoration. In the past I built my own wooden house which was clad with Cedar and used Texnap oil (I think) on the outside walls every few years in order to preserve the natural colour of the wood. Without the oil the wood turned a grey colour.

Does anyone know of a similar oil that can be used on teak that can be bought in bulk?
