  1. How about they do something about the intersection right there, beyond the dangling flashing yellow light (which serves no purpose other than to force large trucks to swing around it).  Maybe having a Brown shirt stand there all day directing traffic will cause some dissension in the squad room and then they'll start writing tickets for the obnoxious parking.

  2. Remember the days when they would throw an antibiotic at everything?  Supplementing your own immune system is one thing, replacing it with a synthetic version because you don't want to deal with fighting the symptoms, is another. And now we're beginning to pay the price.

Lots of homeopathic talk about gut flora and how we're all carrying around a sack of bacteria, a lot of it actually good for our health.

Antibacterial meds aren't "aware" so they strip out all bacteria, forcing your system to rebuild every time you take it.  In the meantime, your body is missing things it needs to maintain health.

Or this is how it was explained to me.

I stand corrected. You got me. You win a prize. Perhaps a wet kiss. I guess I heard that a while back because of the very thick crust. But Chicago deep dish has a thick crust (and very different than any actual Italian crust) only around the edges. Not the same as Sicilian at all. Chicago pizza inventions also include the Chicago deep dish STUFFED pizza which is different than a standard Chicago deep dish pizza.

    Now for some humor --

Let me help you, and any one else who may have this same mistaken impression...

No matter what you read or what anyone outside of Chicago tells you, that .... "thing" in the Stewart video... is NOT Chicago pizza.  It's a tourist attraction.  By far, the majority of Chicagoans prefer the mighty thin over that monstrosity that has become so closely associated with our iconic cuisine.

If you've gone to Chicago and have had one, we thank you for your patronage; Disneyland is in a westerly direction.

The majority of pizza parlors in Chicago, the surrounding suburbs and pretty much the American Midwest, make thin, crunchy-crust pizzas commonly referred to as tavern style and look like the one in the attachment.  However, there's is a marked difference between the prepared pie you see and the variety you may be thinking of.

I have traveled extensively.  I am from Chicago, so I have a bias.  I have tried -and become appreciative- of many varieties and takes on pizza.  A good bronx pizza is highly favored, but there is nothing quite like this.  My Thai spouse, after listening to me exalt Chicago thin-crust for years, on her first visit to the U.S. (Chicago, at my cousins) on her first slice, exclaimed "Finally! Something you weren't lying about!"

  4. It sets my teeth on edge, reading this sort of thing.

Firstly, because it's despicable. Second, because the classic perpetrator is typically a middle-aged white male, and I fit that profile. Compounding that, I am the father of young children (got a late start), so I can't walk around Patts without getting the occasional glare. I think you get my point.

While I loathe the criminals who seek out this sort of vile crap, I'm equally hateful of those who enable it. If you're guilty, I hope you get all that you deserve.

I wish all the luck in the world to these folks who are trying to do justice, where and when they can.

  5. The technical arguments and recommendations will boil down to 50% for LCD/LED and 50% for plasma. It's you that will be watching it in the end. Look around and go with whatever looks best to your eyes and suits your wallet.
Absolutely. As with the old audiophile adage; buy what makes your ears happy. The same hold true for televisions and your eyes. Figure out your budget, do a little research (some brands are just crap), narrow down your choices - and then have a shoot-out at the showroom. Any salesman who won't accommodate you is an idiot. Especially if you're in the market to BUY. Haggle as needed. Leave happy. Oh, and bring your own DVDs.
  6. I'm so glad I joined this forum, even though I'm just your standard issue lurker.

The family is on vacation in Chon Buri right now, and the wife called me to ask me what's going on; neighbors are claiming a tsunami is about to hit Satahip.

I'm all over the 'net, looking for information. USGS, Pacific Tsunami Warning Centers... nothing!

So, I know I've gotten tons of good info from here in the past, and.. here we are.

    Thanks folks.
