  1. For someone retired this is what I sent in:

    Documents Required:

    1. Your actual Passport or Travel Document and one copy of your Passport. (Passport or Travel Document must not expire within 6 months and contain at least ONE completely empty visa page).
    2. One visa application form completely filled out (black and blue ink only)
    3. Two passport-size photographs (2″x2″) (photocopy or photo taken from Photostat will not be accepted).
Photographs must have a light color background with a full- face view of the person without wearing a hat or dark glasses and covering up shoulders. Photos must be taken within 6 months.
    4. A copy of flight confirmation/reservation, showing going from US to Thailand and leaving from Thailand (The name of the applicant must indicated clearly)
    5. A copy of  bank statement for the last 6 months with a minimum balance of $7,000 (every months) (The name of the applicant must indicated clearly) (Again they told me I only need to send one recent statement showing $7000)
    6. Hotel reservation confirmation (The name of the applicant must indicated clearly)

    Visa Processing Fees:

      • Single entry: 200 USD (I presume the Single entry is a typo as it's obvious a METV is $200)

Always do what Ubon Joe recommends.  I did such an extension several years ago and just for convenience I used Key Visa as I recall and they filled out the stuff, took the photos, charged what I thought was a nominal fee, and I got my passport back the next day.

I had Key Visa do an extension years ago when it wasn't necessary for one to go to immigration to get their picture taken. You can still use a service but you must go to immigration with the service to get your picture taken and they charge a lot more than in the past. The service basically fills out the forms and cuts the queue at immigration. And in my case took me to Jomtien (on the back of a motorbike).

    • I am recently retired, but the application asks about "Occupation". I assume I should state "Retired". I have read elsewhere that I must provide proof of adequate savings but I see nowhere on the visa for this information. Is it required?
    • I also see "Name and address of Guarantor" in Thailand". As I will arrange my own accommodation after arriving I'm not sure what to provide. It has been suggested that I simply leave this part blank.
    • "Number of Entries Required" - as I understand the METV, I will be required to exit Thailand at the end of each 60 days. Does this mean that I would, over the duration of the visa, enter 3 times (initial entry, plus 2 additional entries).
    • Is any other documentation required to accompany the application?

I have an application in the works right now in L.A. I might have newer answers in a few days. This information is from last year when I got a METV.

    - I am retired. I stated I was retired and sent in one bank statement showing US$7000 and no other income data.

    - I left the Guarantor sections blank. I did send in an invoice for for my lodging and included the name and address of the guesthouse in the Purposed Address in Thailand section.

    - For number of entries I entered METV. There is no restriction on how many times you can enter Thailand while the METV is valid.

    - I submitted the documentation shown as need for a METV on the L.A. consulate site. I did sent them an Email prior to sending in my application last year and was told that only one recent bank statement showing $7000 is needed. YMMV

FWIW I always used the Washington DC visa application when applying for various visas. Only because I had the PDF version that was fillable on my computer. DO NOT SEND ONE OF THESE TO L.A.! They will reject it and require you to use the L.A. visa application form that is quite a bit different. Fortunately they were nice enough to call me on the phone and tell me to send the correct application.

Again this is a year old so FWIW.

  4. I just got back from Jomtien where I tried to extent my SETV 30 days. I was turned away because I can only extend the visa up to three days before it expires. It used to be two weeks or something like that. If you used an agent they encouraged to do it early. Maybe this changed a while ago and I wasn't paying attention.

Two or my three days are Saturday and Sunday. Will they give me until Monday or do I need to be damn sure I get it done next Friday?

Can you imagine what us peasants had to go through in economy ? The planes made the Russian Air Force look modern .

I flew UA economy LAX-NRT-LAX last September on a 787 and it was pretty good for economy. Plenty of legroom and I'm 6' 1". First time I ever took a US carrier across the Pacific because of older terrible reviews. Unfortunately NRT-BKK-NRT was on ANA and their seat pitch and width sucks in economy.

For the remaining 21 days a border run at Nong Khai will give you a 30 day visa exemption entry (as a UK citizen).

I was going to start another thread but since this one is already going I'll ask here. After my SE tourist visa and extension expires (just like the OP) if I do a border run to Cambodia will I get 30 day exemption entry as a US citizen? The previous comment suggests that I would but I think it's switched back and forth between 15 and 30 days before. So just want to double check.

I was going to get a METV but the requirement are such a PITA I couldn't qualify.

    thanks,  Jay

  7. There is a note at the SCB Bank site stating they are only charging 15B as of November 1.

an ATM network fee for cash withdrawals or cash advances for Visa and

MasterCard credit cards issued by non-bank institutions and non-ATM

Pool members from 150 baht per transaction to 15 baht per transaction.

  8. A "document"? You need a ticket out to obtain the 30 day extension in Jomtien from reports but have not seen anyone report they could not obtain if they had such a ticket. Was there any mention of the person being here for a long period previous to the tourist visa that was only extended 7 days?

Yes he had a E-Ticket (I called it a document). He had no warning stamps, red stamps and should have qualified for a 30 day extention. Another expat also told me he heard the same thing from another source. But I really see nothing in print at the boards (except for the report for the guy I mentioned on another board). And there are so many rumors concerning Jomtien.

  9. Oh..just one other question.

How long did it take to get your visa, from the day you sent it off to the day you got it back..For usa people.

    Thanks all.

    An answer and a question:

I got a triple entry TV from one of the small Thai consulates in the USA last month. I mailed it on Monday, they received and processed it on Tuesday, mailed it back on Wednesday and I received it on Thursday. About as good as it gets but I wouldn't count on that kind of speed.

    Now the question:

Can I get each the 1st and 2nd entry extended 30 days in Jomtien? I have been told they are only issuing seven day extentions in Jomtien even if you have an exit document. I have personally talked with someone who was refused a 30 day extention even though he had an document showing he was leaving Thailand. Sorry if I am starting another rumor.
