  1. If you need to come to Bangkok, I can recommend Dental Design, Times Square Building Mall, 2nd floor, Sukhumvit Rd accessible by the walkway from Asoke BTS station. Tel 086 351 9881. Ask for a consultation with Dr Thamrong Limpanapa who will confirm (or otherwise) whether you need root canal treatment and if so, pass you to the specialist at his clinic. He works Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and sometimes Monday. Their website is https://www.dentaldesignclinic-lab.com/. I’ve been a patient for more than 20 years and couldn’t ask for a better dentist.
  2. Thanks, will get in touch with Paul Aslett.
  3. Good morning. I need some advice on renewing a British passport. My husband, who is 87, is now bedridden, unable to sit, and under palliative care at home. He is unable to travel to the VFS office to apply for a new passport. Thaivisa-express.com appears to offer a passport renewal service. Has anyone used them and can vouch for their reliability? Secondly, his visa (retirement extension) is due to expire on March 25 by which time, his current passport will have 7 months and 5 days left to run. In theory, this should be adequate for Samut Prakan immigration to issue an extension. Does anyone know if they will do this given that the rules often differ from one immigration office to another and also the name and website of a reliable agent who would be able to act on his behalf. He has the necessary funds (800K plus) in the bank. Thank you,
  4. THANKS, WILL CHECK THOSE OUT
  5. My husband has to have an inguinal hernia operation sometime in the next six months but as he is an expat, retired, 87 years old (so his health insurance became unaffordable a few years back, his doctor has recommended he try to have the surgery at a government hospital. Does anyone know if he can do this privately at a government hospital in Bangkok (not Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun, which I have been told is as expensive as Bumrumgrad) and, if so, the best hospital to contact and an idea of the room rates? We know a medical exam will be necessary to get a quote for the actual operation. Thank you.
  6. thanks, I'll do that as a last resort. Seems a little silly though seeing that the same immigration office just extended my visa based on the required funds in my bank account! Perhaps I'll tick the 'sell motorcycle' instead.
  7. I posted here a couple of months ago about the documents required by VFS for renewal of my British passport. Decided to go the certificate of residence from Samut Prakan immigration route but have just been turned down on the grounds that they only issue said certificates for driving licence renewal or to open a bank account! News to me. I think I will instead go to my Thai bank and ask for a statement and letter showing my address and present that to VFS along with my lease, TM30 and last 90 days certificate. Has anyone tried that recently and had those documents accepted as proof of address? Many thanks in advance
  8. thanks. won't be travelling so not an issue and in any case will be applying for new British passport within the next three months and requesting the transfer of visa, so all good (I hope)
  9. I understand that provided my British passport has at least 6 months validity left when I apply for an extension for retirement visa (this will be my fourth such stamp and I will have 11 months left on the passport), Samut Prakan will issue the extension up until the expiry date of the passport. I realise that all future extensions will be based on that new date, which isn't a problem. Can anyone confirm please that my understanding is correct? Thanks in advance
  10. Yes I have, but it's dated 21/7/2020 so presumably not valid. (sorry only just saw your post)
  11. thanks to you all. fortunately I have given myself plenty of time before I need to renew my passport so will probably go with the residence certificate complete with translation option just to be safe.
  12. Would monthly bills from True Visions and True Online (for internet) do?? Sorry to be a nuisance, if not will go to immigration office
  13. okay thanks, guess I will need to apply for a residence certificate from immigration - last time they gave me a letter but apparently they can longer do that. My fault, thought the TM30 was sufficient proof of residence. The problem is that when I retired, had my media visa cancelled and then applied for an extension of stay for retirement, immigration merely gave me a year's stamp.
  14. I don't have a driving licence and the phone bill is in my landlady's name. And my mobile phone is prepaid! Would a statement from my Thai bank with my full address be acceptable?
