  1. Mephisto from France makes the best sandals & shoes, but expensive & I think not available in Thailand. I prefer lace up shoes to wear outside the house. To many broken sidewalks & other walking hazards for sandals. Sturdy leather boots best for bush wacking & riding motorcycles.

Don't buy the cheap Chinese flip flops like they sell at Wal-Mart.

    See graphic photos.

That is fuuucking gross! *projectile vomits*

  2. You can try my wife's shop "Squeeze Me Nail Spa" in Soi Phi Pat, Silom. She's behind me now saying "Yes, we do that".

As I mentioned before - ask for Gay (my missus) or Cocoa (her sister) and say "ThaiVisa" to get a 20% discount.

    Mick

(apologies for blatent advertising - it's that or the cold shoulder tonight)

Just to share and if anyone fancies giving it a go..... Today, I had my eyebrows threaded for the bargain price of 60bt!!!!

Recommendation came via a friend of a friend who is Indian. The owner of the Salon (Pinky) is Indian - I called first to check out things. She reassured me her two Thai staff who work there are very experienced at this. "Too right" - I am very impressed! :o

If you haven't had threading done before, why not give it a go. IMHO, I think it's much more accurate than waxing and you get a really nice shape! But hey that is just what I think!

If you fancy giving it a go... the name of the place is "Koobsurat", located on the ground floor of Sukhumvit Plaza (Korean Town precint), close to Sukhumvit Soi 12. It's right at the back facing the elevators. The nearest skytrain is Asok.

Pinky - Owner who speaks English is on Tel No: 081 338 6051, the Salon is 02 252 5353. Hope this might be useful to you gals (and guys!) :D

Thanks for the info, Mick & Andiamo! Will check when I'm in Bkk.

  3. Sorry for butting in on the ladies forum.

I know someone who does waxing for a living. She told me more and more customers are requesting bleaching as well. :o

    I'm glad I was born a man.

Can anyone recommend a place in Bangkok that does anal bleaching? Any info would be of great help!

  4. I go to Khun Koi, she makes house calls and is very affordable. My husband and I both get waxing done and it's less than 1,000 baht for both of us. Really nice lady and you can ask for your own wax as well. Mobile phone: 0818467828

Where is Khun Koi? I'm interested. :o

  5. From what I have read the "Laser Whitening" technic is a bit of a scam... The same bleaching compound is used as the traditional method... They try to convince you that the magic laser :D will speed up or activate the process giving you a better result than the traditional bleaching compound - oh by the way the laser is extra baht :o studies show no increase in whiteness from the laser - on the contrary... they have cases where the laser has increased the sensitivity of your teeth (a common side effect of tooth bleaching)... try the regular bleaching and save a few baht :D

    TY for that info!

So can you recommend any good dentists in Bangkok that provide teeth bleaching at reasonable prices?

  6. I mean the liquid, good astringent for, say, after shaving. I can't find it, maybe because I don't know the Thai name. Anybody seen it around?

Not sure if this is even available in Asia, but this is what I use because it's a toner (for my combo skin) and has witch hazel (soothing aftershave). Hope this helps! Link

  7. Hi! :-)

Assuming a "legit" pharmacy.....like one at Tops Marketplace, etc......I've noticed that some drugs (antibiotics, thyroid medication, etc.) can be obtained without prescription. On the other hand, sleep aids do require a prescription.

Do you know where there is a resource that lists which drugs, or classes of drugs require a prescription and which don't?

Also, specifically, do you know if the following require prescriptions (note: some are brand names, some are the "chemical name"....but all are available according to the MIMS Thailand drug database)?

    1. antidepressants
    2. Concerta (or Ritalin)
    3. Nimodipine
    4. Naltrexone
    5. Mestinon
    6. Itraconazole

Thank you for your help. I can assure you this is meant for a good cause....as a close friend is suffering through Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (a really bad case of it, too) and her doctor is only partially willing to help with prescriptions. For the most part, doctors just don't offer much help for this affliction at this time. Hard thing to deal with for sure.

    CHEERS!

    D

While we're on this topic: If you are able to obtain such pills, is it illegal to bring them into the US/Canada?

I am looking to buy some Ritalin/Rubifen or similar amphetamines.

  8. Hi!

What's the quickest dependable way to check a potential GF for STDs, especially the major ones like HIV, Herpes, etc?

I remember reading that the porn industry in the U.S. does it pretty quickly with actors/actresses before a shoot, using a system made by some organization named AIM. (although there's something like a 3 day "window" or something like that... not sure).

Anyone know anything about that? :o

I'm not sure if it's available in Asia yet, but you can look into "Rapid HIV Testing". They prick your finger and you get the results in 5-10 minutes. Good luck!

  9. heya,

Does anyone know a decent and cheap dental clinic here to have a teeth whitening ?

I saw a couple of places they charge 12 - 15,000 baht, and in some places they advertise 4 - 5,000 baht.

    Any ideas ?

    /Steve

I would like to know the answer to this as well. Will be in Bangkok later this month.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

  10. First time in Bangkok.

So it's Friday night, I'm all dressed up and ready to go out. But I don't know anybody, don't know where to go. Reluctant to go to Silom Soi 2 or 4 - not familiar with the scene there. Is Telephone/Balcony ok for a 24 year old? I just want to sit down and drink and listen to music and go home. I am sure I will not like DJ Station.

    >>> Fast forward to 2am - I'll just go to bed!

    Any tips/advice?

P.S. Please prove me wrong: I refuse to go to Bed Club since it is full of spoiled rich Thai brats - oh how revolting!

  11. Even though i am residing in Thailand, i happily spend twenty minutes watching some terrific old clips from the likes of Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen and even Benny Hill on YouTube every day. And the MICT can't say crap - i can use my fingers to access what the heck i want - it is not illegal.

Perhaps Mr Sittichai and the MICT haven't checked out YouTube for a while, which is sad, as there are now a plentitude of videos in praise of His Majesty and even apologies from folk who had originally posted 'mocking' videos.

    Yeah. You are the guy!!!!

I agree! Why all this negativity towards YouTube? It has a lot to offer! So many interesting things to learn - how to poach eggs perfectly, how to shave the traditional way, etc. But just like in our physical world, it's the disrespectful, ignorant spoiled American youth that destroy its image!

  12. I've been living in Thailand for over 10 years and have also worked in the Retail industry for the past 6 years. What's wrong with MBK anyways? It's not only a place for knock-offs (which I don't buy and encourage), but if you look at the right shops you might be able to find something nice - especially air conditioned and convenient. Otherwise if you want to spend more, take a look in Central World's Isetan where they have them.

Being the cheapskate that I am, first instinct is to look at knock offs. If I'm not satisfied with quality, will definitely look at other shops.

But I'd rather buy a knock-off than waste money on a $3000 Louis Vuitton or a Goyard bag. Never heard of em donating to charity. Greedy bastards.

Thanks for the tip on Isetan!

  13. You can find some at MBK around the 2-3 floor, they have it in different colors as well. I can't remember the shop's name but it was near and on the same floor as The Pizza Company. Good luck!

Oh my gawd shopgurl where have you been? lol.

Do you know where I can buy knock-offs (bags) in Bangkok?

  14. thanks for the tips everyone..esp SirAlain...Ill note them down...

Malate -- night clubs and gay district....

Greenhills? -- this is not greenbelt is it? how to get there and how far away is it?

Mall of Asia --someone mentioned this as being the handicraft centre? -- directions please :D

turns out I 'might' have one day free during the week...but it will only be 1 day...so cant go too far out of makati...any suggestion?

thanks again people :D Im kinda not looking forward to the week...mainly cos no friends there :o so all ideas from you are much much appreciated...will safe me from some lonely evenings I hope :D

Greenbelt - is a shopping & entertainment area in Makati City.

To the North is Mandaluyong City, where you can find SM Megamall and Shangri-La Plaza (mall for richer folks!) and other malls.

North of Mandaluyong City is San Juan City, where Greenhills is located. Greenhills is mainly for hardcore shoppers.

Now these 3 cities are right next to each other, and you can just take a taxi to and fro. Maybe 15 - 20 minutes from A to B and B to C. Avoid the rush hour!

Mall of Asia - located at Pasay City, southwest of Makati. Again, it's very close from Makati so you can just take a taxi. Haven't been there yet. The owner also owns SM Megamall, and batallions of other malls. Their handicrafts are more touristy than authentic. Rip-off in my opinion. Never appealed to me. Maybe because I prefer buying from street markets and local vendors. Worth the look, maybe.

For the life of me, I can't think of any interesting non-mall places you can go to! My people are pathetic. Too bad you're not staying longer. Lots of virgin, undiscovered, white sand beaches in the Central Philippines.
