And if you piss someone off, and they report to the Labour Department that you are working in Thailand without a work permit (which you most definitely are)...then what?

There goes my diet...

Funniest/scariest: flying on CAAC back in China back in the early 80's, I discovered that my seatbelt was missing the buckle. When I called this to the attention of the flight attendant, she calmly tied both ends around my waist in a big knot. Problem solved!

No Catch-22. You need an overseas license (not an international license) to get a Thai license.
The Thai authorities can only issue an international license based on a Thai license. After all, all an international license is is an official translation of a driver's license and confirmation by the issuing authority of the information contained therein. It makes perfect sense that the Thai authorities cannot give you an international driver's license based on a driver's license issued by a third country.
If you're in the US (perhaps other countries as well), you can easily get an international license from the AAA. Perhaps they are the ones who can issue you one online.

You have to have a Thai driver's license first. After that, you can get an International license from the same place. I know for sure that you can get one from the land transport department main branch at Chatuchak -- not sure about the smaller branches.

United Airlines plane I was on lost one of its two engines shortly after take-off. We heard an explosion, and smoke started coming out. Pilot asked us to "brace" (i.e., assume crash position) until we were safely back on the ground. Fire trucks and rescue vehicles were all lining the runway. All we got for that little adrenaline rush was a free meal and a ticket on the next flight.

If you like cream of wheat, oatmeal, or porridge, you would like grits. It's basically the same thing, but made out of corn. I prefer mine with lots of butter and black pepper, but others like theirs sweet (with maple syrup or sugar).

It's not that easy, though. The IRS can still tax you if they determine that you are renouncing your citizenship for tax avoidance purposes.

It's such a more pleasant place to shop than Panthip. Better parking, better public transportation, not as crowded, no sleazy touts.

Garuda pilot murdered a prominent human rights activist in flight... More here
If your OJ tastes funny.....
If my parents had named me "Pollycarpus", I'd probably feel like killing someone too (but Mum and Dad would be the first people to pop into my head...)!

Interesting; thanks for that. Was your phone a "W-CDMA (UMTS) 3G" model?
-
Really? Never knew that. So what is that phone they lend you at the airport? You put your own SIM card in it, and can use it to make and receive calls in Japan. So there must be SOME sim-card equipped phones capable of being used in Japan. So where to buy one?
-
Most people know that Japan and Korea are the only two major countries in the world where you can't use a standard tri-band GSM phone. AIS users going to these countries can borrow a phone from the counter at Don Muang airport to use while they're away, but I've been traveling so often that it's gotten to be a drag.
Can anyone tell me: if I pick up a cheapo $100 handset in Seoul or Tokyo and slap my AIS SIM card in it, will it work?

...and I'm sure the timing has nothing to do with the presence of the US FTA negotiating team in town at the moment.

There was a case a couple years ago where a flight attendant got in big, big trouble when she were caught slipping half a Xanax tablet into a screaming baby's milk.

It could be that the vendors were invited to put forward a couple scapegoats, who would of course be paid well for the inconvenience of being arrested.

How about "no thanks, I'm into chicks"?

1. Touts
2. Trash/pollution
3. Little pink "napkins"

Americans have ALWAYS been able to own 100% of their companies under the Treaty of Amity.
The protesters should also realize that Thai products will gain unprecedented access to the US market as a result of the FTA. All in all, I think Thailand has more to gain from it than the US.

Do the people who named "corruption" realize that ending corruption would also mean the end of naughty nightlife?
-
"Several thousand" people protested, but about 66 million of them didn't. Yawn.

He had the chance to save millions of lives, but chose to stay rooted in rhetoric. I'm talking about his anti-condom message. How many lives were lost as a result? How many children have been born into poor, third world families, doomed to die of malnutrition, because of the church's anti-birth control stance?

No long-term parking. You can leave your car as long as you want in the regular parking lots, for 250 baht a day. I've left my car there for a week or more at a time, no problem.

I haven't seen that statement, but I'll take your word for it.
