  1. No Catch-22. You need an overseas license (not an international license) to get a Thai license.

The Thai authorities can only issue an international license based on a Thai license. After all, all an international license is is an official translation of a driver's license and confirmation by the issuing authority of the information contained therein. It makes perfect sense that the Thai authorities cannot give you an international driver's license based on a driver's license issued by a third country.

If you're in the US (perhaps other countries as well), you can easily get an international license from the AAA. Perhaps they are the ones who can issue you one online.

  2. United Airlines plane I was on lost one of its two engines shortly after take-off. We heard an explosion, and smoke started coming out. Pilot asked us to "brace" (i.e., assume crash position) until we were safely back on the ground. Fire trucks and rescue vehicles were all lining the runway. All we got for that little adrenaline rush was a free meal and a ticket on the next flight.

  3. If you like cream of wheat, oatmeal, or porridge, you would like grits. It's basically the same thing, but made out of corn. I prefer mine with lots of butter and black pepper, but others like theirs sweet (with maple syrup or sugar).

  4. Most people know that Japan and Korea are the only two major countries in the world where you can't use a standard tri-band GSM phone. AIS users going to these countries can borrow a phone from the counter at Don Muang airport to use while they're away, but I've been traveling so often that it's gotten to be a drag.

Can anyone tell me: if I pick up a cheapo $100 handset in Seoul or Tokyo and slap my AIS SIM card in it, will it work?

  5. Americans have ALWAYS been able to own 100% of their companies under the Treaty of Amity.

The protesters should also realize that Thai products will gain unprecedented access to the US market as a result of the FTA. All in all, I think Thailand has more to gain from it than the US.

  6. He had the chance to save millions of lives, but chose to stay rooted in rhetoric. I'm talking about his anti-condom message. How many lives were lost as a result? How many children have been born into poor, third world families, doomed to die of malnutrition, because of the church's anti-birth control stance?
