OK, I see the Lurpak 250g (mentioned in post 4) is £1.38 (Aprrox B70) at Sainsburys UK online.

How much here? Of course the poor xchange rate (30% down on historical values) does not help!

Some time back I asked on here why the local butter has such a strange taste, say compared to butter in UK but got no replies. Probably the 'Orchid' brand referred to above.

Does anyone know why?

Butter is one of the things I look forward to most when go back home.

I will have a look at these imported butters. How does the price compare to buying local brand or butter back home? Is there a big premium?

OK, going to make my purchase within next couple of weeks (Asus UL30a).

Can do this in BKK or UK. The laptop I am buying has a 2 year global warranty so no problems there.

Any reason to buy in either BKK or UK rather than the other?

The only thing I can think of is that if buy in BKK the keybaord will have both English and Thai (I will not use) characters on the keys. Is this any hinderence?

The other thing is if buy here the blurb says it will have 'Dos Operating System'. What is that in technophobe terms? The one in UK will have Windows 7 Home premium as standard which I could buy seperately here (B4,900 - does that sound right?) and it will still work out slightly cheaper. If I buy here should I upgrade to this Windows 7 Home Premium from DOS (whatever it may be)?

Ulysses - all I am saying is that I would not use a review from someone who is widely known to say anything you want for a bit of cash, when promoting my business.

That is not a reflection on the food at Dukes and I have already written a positive piece in this thread.

I had a burger from the terrace at the Landmark last year some time having read some comments on the burger thread on this forum.

Obviously being the Landmark it was not cheap and I also found it swimming in grease as I picked it up (not from cheese but presumably just cooking grease). It was a large burger but had trouble finishing it, not due to the size but the grease.

Far from impressed for the establishment and price.

Totally agree that this is a very poor show as all the pundits mentioned i.e. Shebby, Masefield, Reeves & McMahon are so uninspiring and unconvincing in their opinions. Even the one with any pedigree, McMahon is a bore and his whining voice puts me off.

However, always make an effort to watch Football Forecast (think that bookie who is normally on is very watchable) and First Edition (as always like to listen to that Sky Sports anchor guy who's name I cannot recall).

I see we have Arsenal and Everton coming up at beginning of February so hoping we can open up a bit of a cushion by then. Does the 30 day extension run from the day you apply or the day your original visa expires?

I wish to get as much validity as possible. The stamp in my passport says 'admitted until 18 Jan' If extension runs from date of original expiry I will go along to immigration tomorrow (15 Jan) but if not am tempted to go Monday (18 Jan) which is last day.

Does the latter option i.e. applying for extension on last day pose any problems difficulties?

I think people are missing the point in that he also includes clearing the tuk tuks from Beach Road (unless they are dropping off passengers) as part of the proposal.

This would be a great idea to move them all to a holding lot behind Junceylon with signs saying where they are if by any chance a misjudged tourist wishes to use their service.

Then the tuk tuks and their drivers can be left to fester all day out of sight and Beach Road can be reclaimed.

I think he has come across a great solution to remove the eyesore of the tuk tuks if not the pricing structure and the Governor should be made aware of this proposal.

I see from BBC World that Adebayor is now doing TV interviews in an Arsenal shirt. Bet that will please his employers.

I had the Duke Burger which came with fries and was very impressed. Good taste and decent portions.

Getgoin, I think you said it is sirloin you use with the addition of fat. Where is the beef coming from, local or import?

I think the fries were some of the best I have had in Thailand as it is difficult to get good potatoes for fries/chips over here as they tend to be too waxy/high water content.

Where do you source your potatoes as would be good to be able to make better fries/chips at home than I have been able to so far?

Will be back to try out other items on the menu, I think the ribs will be next up

MSingh, yep fairplay to West Ham. Rose to the occasion and definately deserved a share of the spoils. Like a lot of clubs in these situations they now need to bring that from in to the more mundane games...not sure who you have next.

OK, I think I have found the computer I wish to buy (Asus UL20A) but not sure where to have a look and/or buy.

It looks like it came out in the States last month and costs $580 from Amazon. I cannot find any internet listing for it in UK but did see something to say it was being released in Japan on 19/12.

Can anyone tell me if it is available here and if so the best place to buy it/get a deal. If not here, is it available in UK or Singapore which could be my other options?

If not available in any of these countries at present is it just a case of waiting for it to be released here?
